Whether it's a drop of the head, a roll of the eyes or crossing our arms, we can tell others how we're feeling without saying a word.

According to Allan Pease, author of Body Language in the Workplace, our ability to positively express ourselves can influence our success in life greatly. Having spent much of his career focusing on the communication skills of adults, Mr Pease is now turning his attention to educating children on the importance of understanding body language.

Mr Pease has created a 10-week course aimed to teach children the basics of body language and has been teaching it to a class of seven-year-old Sunshine Coast Grammar School students. "Over 10 weeks these juniors learned how to introduce themselves, impress people quickly, use the power of facial expressions, imitate handshakes, and use positive gestures to avoid negative signals, "he said.

Mr Pease said he was motivated(激励)to start the program after seeing the poor communication skills shown by young people at a high school graduation ceremony. "A friend of mine invited me to their child's graduation ceremony and I was appalled by what I saw, "he said. "The star students were asked to make a short talk and they were shocking, dragging(拖) their feet across the floor. It was embarrassing. "

"The youth really don't make good impressions and that's because they aren't taught

bow to carry themselves in a correct manner, Mr Pease said. "It's not their fault and to make matters worse, these people, when attending interviews, are told to be themselves. That's bad advice. "

After the success of his course, Mr Pease hopes to have the program introduced into schools across Australia. "I'd like to introduce it to kids and teens through a series of short films that teachers can use, "he said. "Good communication skills are so important and these need to be introduced to young people. "

When I was a boy, my mom had a little picture of the famous Indian politician Gandhi along with words from him on the refrigerator. It said: "No matter how insignificant (无足轻重的)what you do may seem, it is important that you do it. "As a child, I was raised to believe that ,and to this day I do my best to live it.

When I was about 12, I started sending money every month to charities. I learned then

that you find one thing that matters to you, and it changes your whole attitude.

Here's something that matters to me right now. Every 15 seconds, a child dies because of

a lack of clean water. A billion people on our planet don't have a clean drink of water. This doesn't happen in the US, but in Africa it's common. And the most shocking thing about it is that it takes so little to change it. Just $ 25 will give someone clean water for life.

I've taken a lot of trips in the last few years to places like Africa, India and Haiti to try

to learn what conditions are like. It's really powerful when you get to meet the people and shake their hands and listen to their stories. There's so much I don't know.

There's so much need; it's so hard to decide where to give. For me, I look at the organizations that are actually doing the work for charity. I co-founded water, org, which focuses on clean water. I was in Ethiopia earlier this year, and I watched children taking very dirty water out of a hand-dug well and putting it in bottles to take to school. The water was so dirty; it looked like chocolate milk. I wanted to knock it out of their hands and say, "Don't drink that, it could kill you. "But drinking nothing at all will kill them even faster. Parents in these areas lose children every year to diseases that could be completely prevented if they had access to

clean water.

B. To give money to the poor people.

C. To give treatment to people there.

D. To collect moving stories.

30. When the author saw children taking dirty water to school, he

A. told them it would cause death

B. broke the bottles in their hands

B. He helped people in Ethiopia dig a well.

C. He knew the importance of giving at a young age.

D. He gave $ 25 every month to charities when he was 12.

The Caribbean nation of Haiti has a major garbage problem. Plastic bags and other waste litter many of Haiti's streets. In an effort to clean up the country, the Haitian government has banned black plastic bags and foam containers(泡沫容器).

Plastic is dangerous to the environment and the animals. However, many poor people in Haiti rely on disposable(一次性的) containers because they cannot afford reusable ones. Protests(抗议) broke out when the ban was first put in place because many citizens thought the government was forbidding them to use those plastic bags they use to transport drinking water. For now, those plastic bags are exempt(被免除的),or not part of the ban.

The ban was passed on October 1. Recent reports show that many citizens have not followed he ban just yet. Leaders and environmentalists believe it will take some time before it is widely obeyed.

Government officials hope that the ban will reduce cleanup costs nationwide. And some leaders believe that the existing plastic and foam trash can even be recycled into building materials.

Ubuntublox are building blocks made by filling recycled plastic and foam into rice bags. Leaders hope to see these used to rebuild tile countless homes that Haiti lost two years ago during a great earthquake. Because the blocks are highly flexible, the new houses will also not fall apart during earthquakes.

According to Harvey Lacey, inventor of the Ubuntublox, the blocks are also good for rebuilding the weak Haitian economy(经济). I.acey says, "There would be work for those willing and able to pick up the plastic trash... . And of course there would be companies who would use the new construction material to create housing. "

Although Haiti has a long road ahead , many citizens are tired of their trash troubles. Stephen Italien lives in Cite Soleil, a trash-filled town in Haiti. He tells Reuters news agency, "We hope that people respect the ban, and that the measure stays, because that is what bothers us the most. "

Travel Light

Getting away for a short time always seems like a great idea--until you have to pack.

36 The rule is: pack light. Here are some tips to help you pack.

1. Make a list. Think of what you need from your head to your toes37 When you’ve done this once, it'll be easier next time.

2. Consider buying small-size samples of shampoo, toothpaste, and other items at your local drugstore. You can reuse the plastic containers next time you go away too.

3. Choosing which clothes to bring is probably the hardest packing decision to make. Think once again from head to toe--hat, shirts, jeans, sneakers, etc. Once you've picked out what you want to bring, think carefully. Do you really need that extra pair of jeans? If so, fine. 38 Don't try to fool yourself. You are the one who will be left holding the bag.

4. Weather is an important factor in your packing. If it's cold, you could wear a jacket, a sweater, a regular shirt, and a T-shirt. Putting them on will keep you warm. 39 Remember how much easier it will be to carry your bag! As for shoes, you may want to call ahead to see

if dress shoes are necessary. If so, one pair will be enough, along with one pair of comfortable shoes.

Remember that it is you who have been invited somewhere, not your things. 40 So,

do it right--pack light.

A. Mixing and matching is a smart and easy way to lighten your load.

B. But packing won't be a problem if you remember one simple rule.

C. You will have an easier time if you're weighed down.

D. But make sure they're really worth the extra weight.

E. It's best to bring these things with you.

F. And it'll leave more room in your bag.

G. Keep the list for future reference.

A summary of the teaching work of senior three English teache rs 汇报人:JinTai College

Before her final year in the University of Alabama, Lee dropped out to become a writer. She moved to New York City where her childhood friend Truman was already established as a famous writer. While there, she worked on her first book —To kill a Mockingbird. It won her the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was made into an Academy Award winning movie the following year. To kill a Mockingbird tells the story of six-year-old Scout and her brother who live in the town of Maycomb, Alabama with their single father Atticus. Atticus is a lawyer who defends the blacks. It is the story of 26-year-old Scout who returns to Maycomb to visit her father. She is shocked to find her father a changed man. Atticus has turned into a segregationist! The story shows the mixed feelings Scout has for the changes that have taken place in her hometown and father. A loner for most of her life, Harper Lee stayed unmarried,
