The first bar chart illustrates the number of marriages and divorces in America during the period from 1970 to 2000, while the second one describes different marital status of American adults in the years 1970 and 2000.
More specifically, the number of marriages leveled off at 2.5 million during the first decade (1970-1980), then it fell gradually to 2m in 2000. On the other hand, the number of divorced people in 1970 stood at 1m which climbed to almost 1.5m in 1980. Afterwards, the next two decades (1980-2000) witnessed a steady drop to 1m in 2000.
In the second chart, the proportion of married people underwent an 11% decline to approximately 59% during the period. Similarly, the ratio of widowed Americans also went down, though not as dramatic as that of the marriage rate. By contrast, never married people rose slightly from 15% in 1970 to 20% in 2000. And the divorce rate increased almost three-fold from 3% to 9% during the same period.
To sum up, it can be summarized from the charts that an increasing number of American people preferred to be single during that period.

The four pies provide information regarding five different types of fuel sources used to produce electricity in Australia and France in the years 1980 and 2000.
The total production in Australia in 2000 was 170 which was 70 units more than that in 1980. More specifically, coal was the most popular fuel source in both years, and a dramatic rise from 50 units to 130 units can be noticed; followed by hydro power, but there was only an increase of 16 units. However, both natural gas and oil declined respectively from 20 units and 10 units to 2 units.
While in France, the total production doubled from 90 units to 180 units. Both nuclear power and oil went up during the period, although the rise of oil was not as dramatic as that of nuclear power (from 15,20 to 126,25 respectively). While both natural gas and hydro power underwent a decrease respectively from 25 units and 5 units to 2 units. Besides, coal production leveled off at 25 units.

Although there will undoubtedly be some negative consequences of this trend, societies can take steps to mitigate these potential problems. As people live longer and the populations of developed countries grow older, several related problems can be anticipated. The proportion of younger, working adults will be smaller, and governments will therefore receive less money in taxes in relation to the size of the population. In other words, an ageing population will mean a greater tax burden for working adults. Further pressures will include a rise in the demand for healthcare, and the fact young adults will increasingly have to look after their elderly relatives. There are several actions that governments could take to solve the problems described above. Firstly, a simple solution would be to increase the retirement age for working adults, perhaps from 65 to 70. Nowadays, people of this age tend to be healthy enough to continue a productive working life. A second measure would be for governments to encourage immigration in order to increase the number of working adults who pay taxes. Finally, money from national budgets will need to be taken from other areas and spent on vital healthcare, accommodation and transport facilities for the rising numbers of older citizens.
