Spending on digital healthcare services in China will grow more than 36-fold from $3 billion in 2014 to $110 billion in 2020, according to a report published on Thursday.

The report by Boston Consulting Group said that investors poured nearly $700 million into the digital healthcare industry in China in 2014, ___41___ e-commerce and online physician-and-patient communication devices, and these figures will grow.

“The growth of digital in China presents ___42___ to address some of the key issues ___43___ healthcare delivery in China,” said John Wong, a BCG senior p artner and co-author of the report, in a

release about the report. “It should make the delivery of care more efficient while also giving people broader and easier ___44___ to high quality care.”

In the report —China’s Digital Health Care Revolution, ___45___ on Thursday —the firm said widespread adoption of technologies like mobile devices, cloud computing and big-data analytics is driving digital healthcare.

Companies are offering these digital services to Chinese patients in a sector where the government is continuing to implement reform and address unmet consumer needs. Many Chinese patients, for example, go to the hospital for simple needs like renewing a prescription, leading to ___46___ hospitals, and digital healthcare can relieve such problems, the report said.

There is also an increasingly ___47___ regulatory environment in China allowing healthcare companies can expand their businesses. The National Health and Family Planning Commission invested $9.5 billion to develop electronic medical records, and it has boosted digital healthcare, making it easier to ___48___ online pharmacies(药店)and sell certain types of drugs online in the coming years.

The report recommended digital companies looking to enter the healthcare sector to do so by ___49___ with local hospitals and physicians.

Drug companies need to build e-commerce capacities of their own, and pharmaceutical companies should use digital tools to improve sales and provide disease management. More digital tools will allow hospitals and physicians to lower wait time and big crowds, and ___50___ of things like electronic medical records will allow facilities to share information in real time. As a result, it will improve diagnosis and treatment, the report said.

The famous American inventor Thomas Alva Edison once claimed that genius was one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration(汗水). Now, it seems, there is scientific evidence to ___51___ his claim. The idea that geniuses such as Shakespeare, Mozart, and Picasso possessed certain inborn talents is a false belief, according to a study by a British psychologist and his colleagues.

After examining outstanding performance in the arts and sports, these researchers concluded that ___52___ is determined by opportunity, encouragement, training, motivation, self-confidence, and — most important of all — ___53___. Even people who were not thought to be 54___ with any special talent could, after having received training, reach levels ___55___ considered attainable(可获得的)only by gifted individuals. …Talent is a false belief, and it is time that people got rid of it,” they said.

This theory —a dramatic ___56___ with traditional beliefs —has been ___57___ by academics worldwide. In fact, studies of accomplished artists and mathematicians, and top tennis players and swimmers, have reported few early signs of ___58___ in these people before any parental encouragement. No case has been found of anyone reaching the highest levels of achievement without ___59___ himself or herself to thousands of hours of serious training. Even those who are believed to be exceptionally talented — whether in music, mathematics, chess, or sports — have needed lengthy periods of instruction and practice to achieve their highest level of success. …The persistent false belief that some people reach high levels of performance without spending numerous hours practising ___60___ much to the fact that their practice is usually outside the casual observer?s view,? stated one scientist.

The importance of practice has been noticed in athletics. For instance, differences in the composition of certain muscles were once thought to be ___61___ predictors of athletic performance. However, the differences in the proportion of certain muscle fibers(组织)that are ___62___ for success in long-distance running are largely the result of extended practice in running.

…What makes a genius then?? one may ask. ___63___, there is no clear answer. What is known, however, is that …nurture? is at least as important as …nature.? ___64___, a supportive environment will do far more for

a child?s prospects of success than any inborn gifts. This is a message that most of us will find ___65___ —even if we haven?t won the gene lottery, our fate is still in our own hands.

Section B

Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.

(A)

The turning point of my life was my decision to give up a promising business career and study music. My parents, although sympathetic, and sharing my love of music, disapproved of it as a profession. This was understandable in view of the family background. My grandfather had taught music for nearly forty years. Though much respected in the community, he earned barely enough to provide for his large family. As a consequence of this example in the family, the very mention of music as a profession carried with it a picture of a risky existence with uncertain financial rewards. My parents insisted on college instead of a conservatory of music, and to college I went —quite happily, as I remember, for although I loved my violin and spent most of my spare time practicing, I had many other interests.

Before my graduation, the family met with severe financial reverses and I felt it my duty to leave college and take a job. Thus I launched upon a business career — which I always think of as the wasted years.

Now I do not for a moment mean to disparage(藐视)business. My whole point is that it was not for me. I went into it for money, and aside from the satisfaction of being able to help the family, money is all I got out of it. It was not enough. From being merely discontented I became miserable. I continued to make money, and finally, bit by bit, accumulated enough to enable me to go abroad to study music. The family being once more solvent(有偿付能力的), and my help no longer necessary. I resigned from my position and, feeling like a man released from jail, sailed for the world of music. I stayed in Europe for four years and enjoyed every minute of it.

“Enjoyed” is too mild a word. I walked on air. I really lived. I was a free man and I was doing what I loved to do and what I was meant to do.

If I had stayed in business, I might be a comparatively wealthy man today, but I do not believe I would have made a success of living. I would have given up all those inner satisfactions that money can never buy.

(C)

Nearly 30 years ago cartoonist Bill Tidy depicted two football fans, one wearing Liverpool?s colours, the other Everton?s, at a bookstall fe aturing such titles as Football Monthly, Football Weekly and Football Daily. The woman behind the counter was being asked a searching question, “Have you got Football Hourly?” Rarely has one city?s obsession with soccer been summed up so well.

There are many magnificent buildings in Liverpool. All of them, however, take second place to football. The game surely is the first thing most people think about when the city?s name is spoken.

There is no logical way in which the title of Top Spot for Football can be granted to any one place, but Liverpool has one claim that no other can make: It is the only city in England which has had at least one club in the top division every year since the Football League?s foundation in 1888.

Everton were one of the 12 original members, having been formed 10 years earlier by young men from a Sunday School. Then a dispute over alcohol led to a split. Some members objected to the fact that the club HQ and changing rooms near the ground were in a public house. The dispute escalated, and eventually the majority of members left and helped to create a new club and new ground less than a mile away.

So Goodison Park came into being, on one edge of the newly-opened Stanley Park, while the owner of the club, John Houlding, and his supporters remained at Anfield, on the other edge of the park, and adopted a new title: Liverpool.

For more than a century the clubs have remained in these homes, much altered over the years but always among the best grounds in the country. In 1938 Goodison became the first to have two-tier accommodation on all four sides, with seats above some of the terracing. Liverpool have Spion Kop, built in 1906 as an open area but later extended to hold 28,000 under a roof with no central pillars.

The Kop was much imitated but remained a thing apart, a match-day mass of heaving humanity, singing and chanting. From the 1960s, the Kop was the symbol of the club?s domination.

If you can go to a local derby(同城球队的对抗), so much the better. The Big Two pioneered the side-by-side entry of the teams at such meetings and have followed that ritual ever since, while the fans make the occasion memorable for sheer excitement.

74. In the 1st paragraph, the author mentioned the question of “Have you got Football Hourly?” in order

to show _______.

A. the mass have a great passion for the publishing industry

B. newspapers and magazines about soccer are in great shortage

C. local people are quite keen on the latest news of football

D. city bookstalls are not enough to meet the public needs

75.According to the passage, the underlined word escalated (Para. 4) is closest in meaning to ______.

A. settled

B. relieved

C. collapsed

D. intensified

76. Which of the following is implied about Goodison Park?

A. It?s located inside the Stanley Park and alongside Anfield.

B. It was the first to have two-tier accommodation with no central pillars.

C. It was widely recognized by the fans after gaining a new name: Liverpool.

D. It was the outcome of the dispute between the two groups of members in Everton.

77. This passage is mainly about _______.

A. Liverpool?s two distinguished football teams

B. the development and popularity of soccer in Liverpool

C. Goodison Park?s uniqu e framework design

D. an exciting derby between Liverpool and Everton

Section C

Directions: Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words.

If your resolutions for the new year are typical, they probably include a determination to lose weight. But if you are like most Americans, any success you have losing pounds will be short-lived, and you?ll end the year weighing more than you do right now.

So why are Americans obsessed with weight loss? Many people say they want to lose weight to improve their health, but this may not actually be their primary motivation. In one of the more interesting polls (民意测验) I?ve seen, more than three-fourths of the 231 dieters surveyed said that they would take a pill that would guarantee they would achieve or maintain their desired weight even if it would lowers their life expectancy. On average, they were willing to give up 5.7 years.

These findings may seem puzzling, but they are not so surprising when you consider weight-loss attempts for what they really are: efforts to protect against weight-based discrimination. Yale researchers have shown that weight discrimination in the US has increased dramatically in the last decade especially among women. Multiple studies have documented weight bias in employment, healthcare, education and public spaces —unequal treatment based on labeling fat people as lazy, unmotivated, and lacking self-discipline and competence. Heavy women are routinely ridiculed in advertisements, television and film.

Of course, there are genuine health risks associated with higher body mass. The clearest case is that of Type 2 diabetes, which becomes more likely as weight goes up. Yet as many medical researchers have pointed out, this association may not be causal. It has become increasingly clear that the link between weight and health is complicated. In some cases, higher body mass seems to protect against death rate. For instance, there is growing evidence documenting an “obesity paradox (肥胖矛盾)”, in which elevated body mass is associated with lower death rate among people with heart disease and among those with Type 2 diabetes. But it is clear that anti-fat bias in and of itself has a serious effect on public health in ways many may not suspect. Fear of ridicule leads many heavier women to avoid exercising in public or even — when

they are very heavy — to avoid leaving their homes, depriving themselves of social interaction. And the fear of becoming fat can lead women of all sizes to develop eating disorders that can diminish their lives and be dangerous to their health. What should be done about weight-based discrimination? The answer is to call for increasing tolerance and appreciation of different body types.

This year, before starting yet another diet, ask yourself why you want to lose weight. If it is to improve your health, perhaps you should focus on health-enhancing behaviors that are more directly linked to health.

(Note: Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN TEN WORDS.)

78. According to some interesting polls, what actually may be people?s primary motivation to lose weight?

79. Why do many people in America take the risk of lowering their life expectancy to lose weight?

80. Fat people are thought of as ____________________________________________, which results in

the unequal treatment of them.

81. No doubt that anti-fat bias has a bad effect on public health because they stop fat people ___________

Despite his salary, earned by inventing new programs within tight schedules, with profit-sharing, he cannot drive a car, take out a mortgage, or obtain credit cards.

David got his job four months ago, a year after leaving school and working for a time in a computer shop. He spends some of his money on records and clothes, and gives his mother £40 a week. But most of his spare time is spent working. He said: “Unfortunately, computing was not part of our studies at school, but I had been studying it in books and magazines for four years in my spare time. I knew what I wanted to do and never considered staying on at school. Most people in this business are fairly young, anyway” David added: “I would like to earn a million and I suppose early retirement is a possibility. You never know when the market might disappear.”

Questions:

11. How is David different from other young people of his age?

12. What is David?s biggest problem now?

13. Why does David think he might retire early?

Questions11 through 13 are based on the following passage.

Learning to share is hard for most children. Young children think about themselves and what they want or need. Thinking about the needs of others is the beginning to learning to share. Two or three-year-old children should not be expected to share. They are still working on meeting their own needs. By the age of four, many children will share some of their things. By the age of six or seven, children begin to understand how to cooperate with other children.

Playing in group gives children a chance to learn about sharing and taking turns. In your family day-care home, you may decide that all day-care toys and games belong to the group, not to any one child. As the care provider, you need to explain that to the children. Then show them what you mean. For example, when a child has finished using a group toy and another child picks it up, say out loud that it belongs to that child now. When he is done, it will belong to the next child, etc. Explain to the children that this is called “sharing”. If they want a toy back, they will have t o wait for anther turn. Explain this process to all the children. Then follow through with your promise. Tell the children rules in a way that they understand. You could say. “First you go down the slide, then John, and then Sandy.” This is clearer to chil dren than saying, “You must all take turns.”

14. What is the start of learning to share?

15. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

16. What can be concluded according to the passage?

Section C

Directions: In Section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard. Write your answers on your answer sheet.

Blanks 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation·

M: Hello, how is everything with you?

W: I?m fine … but actually I?m feeling a little tired these days.

M: It?s because you don?t get much exercise.

W: I work so hard that I do not have the energy to exercise.

M: That is just an excuse. You can always find some time to exercise.

W: But I work all the time for long hours. Often I have no time for lunch. Yet, I am still getting fatter.

M: You know that work is not the same as exercise as it is stressful but not relaxing. And skipping meals will not help you lose weight. In fact your body will only store fat if you miss meals.

W: I know you?re right, but what can I do?

M: How about going for a walk instead of sitting on the sofa reading newspapers after dinner every night? W: But I?ll miss the news. It?s important in my business to keep up with the events in China.

M: I know, I know. Have you got a portable radio? You can listen to the news and get healthy at the same time.

W: That?s a good ide a.

Complete the form. Write ONE WORD for each answer.

Blanks 21 through 24 are based on the following conversation.

W: No luck then, John?

M: Afraid not. Not yet, anyhow. We?re still checking on stolen cars.

W: Mm.

M: Where do you think he?ll head for?

W: Well, he definitely won?t try to leave the country yet. He may try to get a passport, and he?ll certainly need clothes and money. He?ll probably get in touch with Cornfield for those, so I expect he?ll make for Birmingham.

M: Right. I?ll put some men on the house.

W: Yes, do that. Mind you, I doubt if he?ll show up there in person. Hammond?s no food, you know. I should think he?ll probably telephone.

M: What about his wife?

W: Mm, I shouldn?t think he?ll go anywhere near her— though he might get he r to join him after he?s left the country. And when he does leave, he probably won?t use a major airport, either. So you?d better alert the coastguard, and keep an eye on the private airfields.

M: Right. I?d better get his description posted all over the city.

W: Yes. He may change his appearance, of course, but I don?t expect he?ll be able to do much about the cut in his face. … And John—be careful. He could be armed. And if I know Hammond, he certainly won?t give himself up without a fight.

Complete the form. Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.
