Once there was a strong camel. She liked dancing very much. She wanted to be a ballet(芭蕾舞) dancer. “To make every movement a thing of beauty,” said the camel, “is my dream.”

Again and again she practiced. She repeated the five basic positions a hundred times each day. She worked for long months under the hot sun, but not once did she think of stopping.

At last the camel said, “Now, I am a dancer.” She gave a performance and danced before an invited group of friends. She did very well. When her dance was over, she made a deep bow.

There was no applause (鼓掌). Instead, everyone laughed at her.

“I must tell you frankly,” said one of her friends, “you are lumpy and humpy. You don’t have any talent in dancing. You are, like the rest of us, simply a camel. You are just an animal. You are not and never will be a ballet dancer!” With these words, they moved away across the sand, laughing and joking.

“How wrong they are!” said the camel. “I have worked hard. I will be a good dancer. I will dance and dance just for myself.” That is what she did. It gave her many years of pleasure.

Yesterday I’ve seen a lot of people on my Twitter and Facebook wishing everybody a happy friend’s day, or friendship day. I did not know it was such a day, and this morning I went on to Google about it (as I do with everything...).

The International Friendship Day usually falls on the first Sunday of August, in many places in the world. Of course, there are other places in the world that celebrate a Friendship Day on another date. On the 27th of April 2011, though, the United Nations declared the 30th of July as International Friendship Day.

There are times when we find it hard to discuss matters with our family members, and now friends come to our support. They guide us and encourage us. And the best part is we don’t really need to put things in words when communicating with our best friends. Most often friends understand us, just by looking at us or hearing our voice. This heart-to-heart connection makes friendship so special.

Friendship needs to be nurtured(培养) with love and care. Therefore express our feelings and warmth to our friends. We may do this by sending flowers, cards or wrist bands. We may also do this by being together with a friend in times of joy or sorrow.

At times we get so busy in our daily lives that we start taking our friends for granted. It is the celebration of Friendship Day that reminds us that we must cherish (珍惜) our friends and the important role they play in our lives. We must therefore celebrate Friendship Day and let our friendship soar to a newer height.

51. According to the passage, the writer usually when he doesn’t understand something.

A. turns to his friends for help

C. goes to the library for information

52. Which of the following is NOT mentioned to express our love for our friends?

A. Emails.

B. Flowers.

C. Cards.

D. Wrist bands.

53. The writer thinks that celebrating Friendship Day is to make people .

A. have fun

B. make more friends

C. value friendship

D. forget sorrow

54. Which of the following is WRONG according to the passage?

A. The world celebrates Friendship Day on the same day.

B. We need to take care of friendship to keep it going.

C. You needn’t say so ma ny words to make friends understand you.

D. It shows your concern to be together with friends when they are happy or sad.

55. The main purpose of the last paragraph is to show .

A. the importance of friends

B. the importance of Friendship Day

C. how to take care of friendship

D. how to cherish friendship

Drinking alcohol (酒) is dangerous for kids and teenagers and sometimes for grown-ups, too. Like many d rugs, alcohol changes a person’s ability to think and speak. A person might lose his or her balance (平衡) and have trouble walking. When people drink too much, they might hurt themselves or other people. Worse still, drinking too much alcohol can cause alcohol poisoning (中毒), and it can kill a person.

Drinking too much alcohol can be bad for their health.

Some grown-ups seem to be able to enjoy it with no problems, but other people can develop problems with it. Sometimes, that’s called alcoholism. People wi th alcoholism have little control over their drinking and can’t stop without help. Alcoholism continues over time and it often gets worse.

Therefore, as teenagers, you should say no to alcohol, though it can be hard if you feel unpopular because of your de cision. True friends won’t stop being your friends just because you don’t want to drink alcohol. If you feel this kind of pressure, talk to someone you believe in. And if you’re worried about a friend who’s drinking, you should tell your mother or your fat her or one of your teachers. Then someone can talk with your friend before the alcohol causes a big problem.

In short, with help, anyone who has a problem with alcohol can be successful at stopping. And if you’re still a kid, help yourself by not starting in the first place!

A A long time ago, I was returning from my friend's house. My father parked the car in front of our house. We were opening the gate when suddenly we noticed two puppies run onto our lawn. They were differently colored —one was brown as a cup of coffee with its tail and ear hair dipped in black while the other puppy was a biscuit color with the tip of its tail dipped in white and its forehead had a white spot. And that's why we named them Coffee and Biscuit. Coffee is female and Biscuit is male. In other words they both are twins by a minute. Well, since then they have been with us. Now here comes the shocking part. Coffee has been with us only for one year and 11 months. Guess why? Coffee will soon be littering. At this time it is known that dogs have a sense of temper and start biting people that come near them. And so with a lot of arguing I let my parents take Coffee to a farmer's far away. They tried to assure me that Coffee would have a great time. But Biscuit and I couldn't stand the pain of losing a friend and a sister. After a month, the night before Christmas I made my Christmas wish: I wished that Coffee would come back to me on Santa's sleigh (雪橇). The next morning, I woke up to hear the singing of birds. I jumped out of bed and ran towards the Christmas tree. There were almost 100 presents. We started to open our gifts. In the end there was just one remaining. It was wrapped in a green gift paper and tied with a red ribbon. I opened it up and guessed who jumped out. It was my lost Coffee. She looked absolutely beautiful. My parents explained that she had been scratching the front door last night! 1.The story mainly tells ________. A.a lovely and little pet was recovered B.the author gave up his pet C.the pet can bring a whole world of happiness D.people should protect dogs 2.The features of the dogs are that ________. A.Coffee's ear is brown B.Biscuit likes to eat biscuits terribly C.Coffee has a black tail D.Biscuit's forehead has a white spot 3.The author had got Coffee lost ________.
