1.Should Free Music Downloads Be Banned?

With the development of technology, more and more people are making use of the Internet and are enjoying downloading all types of materials. Some are especially fond of downloading free music. They argue that free music downloads not only enrich our life, but also are good for the music industry because they help increase the popularity of music.

However, from my point of view, it is not advisable to allow free music downloads. For one thing, they violate the intellectual property rights of musicians. For another, they have a negative impact on the sales of musical products such as CDs, which may do harm to the whole music industry. Without good returns, who would like to invest in the music industry?

In order that the music industry can develop healthily, we had better ban free music downloads. Let's all start to do so with ourselves.

2. On TV Shows

Nowadays, TV shows are very popular. TV shows like Super Girls and Dreams in China have attracted thousands of people to participate, and many more wait to watch them when they are on show.

Why are so many people interested in such programs? Advocates say that these programs provide excellent opportunities for young people to express themselves and to show their specialty. They help improve their self-confidence and add to their courage to face all kinds of challenges.

However, some people criticize these programs, arguing that they are not only a waste of energy, money and time, but also a revelation of social vanity.

In my opinion, we need not be too critical about such TV programs. If they can bring happiness to those who participate in them as well as to the audience, they are justifiably entitled to prosper.

3. On Students Dealing In Stocks

When many people make a fortune in the stock market, a great number of university students follow their steps and get involved in dealing in stocks too. They deal in stocks in their free time, trying to earn some money and gain some experience in managing properties.

Most people accept this understandingly. They say dealing in stocks provides the students an opportunity to combine what they have learned in school with practice. However, there are also people who take a negative view on this. They argue that dealing in stocks will not only take much of the student's energy and time, but it will also make huge economic risks. When huge losses occur, they may lead to disastrous results.

As for me, I think university students must be discouraged to deal in stocks, since campus life is not yet ready for the turbulent stock market.

4. Should English Classes Be Compulsory for Students?

Most universities in China have made English a compulsory course, which has aroused many complaints among students. Many students wish that English could be removed from the list of compulsory courses.

However, I think it is of great significance for all university students to study English. To begin with, as an international language, English is widely used. Today, university students must matter the language if they are to communicate with foreigners and to participate in the fierce international competition in the future. In addition, studying English as a foreign language does not only provide students with a useful tool for communication, but also open a door to cultures different from our own. As is universally acknowledged, mutual understanding among different cultures is vital for keeping the world safe and peaceful.

Therefore, I strongly recommend that all students should take advantage of the compulsory course, and try to study English well.

5. Fast Food

Fast food has been increasing popular in our life. For one thing, more fast food restaurants, both Chinese and western style, appear in the street. For another, more customers welcome fast food .Several years ago, only the young went to McDonald's, but now people of all ages rush to fast food restaurants.

The popularity of fast food apparently relates to the fast pace of modern life. Office workers have to return to fast food because of their short lunchtime. Some families, with both husband and wife working full time, cannot afford the time to cook, so they choose it too.

However, evidence shows that fast food lacks nutrition, and if we eat only fast food, it is surely bad for our health.

Therefore, I think, for convenience's sake, we need fast food. But if we want to keep good health, we should try our best to cook for ourselves.

6. On Students Quitting School

Many college students have quit school in recent years. They do it for different reasons.

Some students quit school because of their poor healthy. A serious disease or a traffic accident may have made it impossible for them to continue their schooling. Other students may be forced to do it because their family couldn't afford the tuition.

However, there are some students who quit school out of their own choice. Some embrace a good job offer and leave school. Others may find they cannot afford to lose the good opportunity to start their own business, so they quit school to start their career just like Bill Gates.

Whatever the reason, I think college students should think twice before deciding to quit school. After all, graduates are normally better prepared for their future than those who quit school. College education pays off in the long run.

7、Should Students Follow Fashions

Y oung university students are sensitive to fashions. Some are keen on following fashions: they use mobile phones of the latest style, they wear stylish clothes, they enjoy popular music.

Some people are not happy with this phenomenon. They argue that university students should focus on their studies rather than on fashions. They say fashions cost so much that university students cannot afford them. Some students follow fashions crazily, for fear of losing face. Fashions have caused much trouble on campus.

However, others may hold different opinions. They say fashions can drive students to work harder for a better life and broaden their horizons, which is essential for their future development.

I understand those students who follow fashions, but they must be responsible and not go to extremes. If their family is poor, there is no need for them to have such luxurious hobbies.

8、A Letter to the University President

Dear Mr. President,

I am a sophomore majoring in Law. I’m writing to make suggestions on improving the education quality of our university.

First, I think there is still much room for improvement concerning our classroom education. Some teachers just recite textbooks and their courses are boring. It is not very helpful for us. We need more interaction and communication in the classes, and we welcome more lively and practical courses.

Second, we students need help to develop our initiative in our study. I hope our university can invite some famous people to deliver lectures to us on how to study.

Finally, in order to get all students involved in our studies, I suggest some contests be held in the university. For example, the Department of Law can have legal knowledge contests.

Thank you for reading my letter. I hope my suggestions will be seriously looked to.

Y ours sincerely,

Li Ming

9、Grades and Ability

Do high grades imply excellent ability? Opinions vary from person to person.

Some agree that high grades reflect high intelligence and are thus indicative of one’s ability. Students who do well in exams are therefore always favored in class. Others hold that grades have little to do with one’s ability. They point out that some student who do not work well in school may also make great achievements. They take Edison for example, saying that Edison was considered not clever by his primary school teacher, but he became a very famous inventor later.

In my view, grades are important for us students. When people have no other ways to assess our ability, they can decide whether we are qualified for a school place or a position only from our grades. Therefore, we must try to achieve high grades in school, even though they are not the only standard for our abilit ies.

10、Annual Expenses for Studying English

The charts show that college students have changed much in their ways of studying English, and their total expenses for it have also increased greatly. In 2000, they bought either reference books or tapes. But in 2008, they can choose among reference books, tapes, CDs, or DVDs, MP3s, and the Internet. Consequently, their annual expenses for studying English have risen from 150 Y uan to 230 Y uan per person, a 50% increase.

Many factors contribute to such charges. Firstly, as an international language, English is not only useful when we travel abroad or communicate with foreigners, but also has become a must if we apply for a job in some large companies. Secondly, the income of most families has increased considerably, so college students can spend more on their English study. Last but not least, with the advancement of new technology, more efficient English study facilities become available for students.

You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then give your comments. Write your essay on Answer Sheet 1. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words. Grabbing red envelopes has been hogging the limelight in our daily life since the 2016 Spring Festival. At no point is it clearer that this activity has endowed our vapid life with the flavor of high-tech and fun, especially giving traditions typical of festive periods, such as the Chinese New Year and Chinese Valentine’s Day, a facelift. However, some people may be trapped in a situation where they put the cart before the horse. Disappointedly, what some people do on festivals is not to communicate with their relatives and friends but to hold their cell phones and fix their eyes on the screen all day long, just in order to grab red envelops. For my part, what really matters is the relationship instead of the money. Essentially speaking, gifting red envelopes is beyond reproach. Only in a rational way shall we not be reduced to slaves of materialism or hijacked by the high technology. Festivals offer precious opportunities for us to send good wishes to our beloved ones and what we should do is to cherish these chances rather than to ignore the essential connotation of the festivals. Anyhow, kinship, friendship and other relationships are above anything and we ought to make every endeavor lest the profound cultural atmosphere of traditional festivals should decline.

1、Writing Directions: for this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Is the Ban on Abusive Language Online Helpful? You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below. 1. Is the Ban on Abusive Language Online Helpful? Recently, the topic whether the ban on abusive language on the Internet is helpful or not has aroused great attention and debate. Some people believe it helpful while others doubt its effectiveness. Those in favor of this move state that imposing the ban on online abuse is a counterattack against the deterioration of the communication method on the Internet. More significantly, it’s no doubt that the ban gives positive guidance to either netizens or the public and helps encourage higher morality. However, other people oppose that the ban, as a matter of fact, is unnecessary and difficult to practice, for the users can well disguise their true identity. Furthermore, morality should be something rooted in an individual’s heart so to underline the ban will do nothing to encourage people to be more polite. Personally speaking, I agree with the former opinion. Abusive language online, in most cases illogical, is a desperate insult to suppress others’ ideas. Thus, ban concerning this issue can offer helpful instructions to the netizens. In addition, it also contributes to promoting the moral standards of the whole society.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Living in the 21st century(生活在21世纪的优缺点) Living in the 21st century offers certain advantages, such as a higher standard of living, but it also has some disadvantages, such as a polluted environment. To begin with, most people now have more money for less hard work. They earn higher salaries than before and enjoy better social security, such as social welfare for laid-off workers and disability insurance. Secondly, because of the advance in medical technology which leads to better medical care and treatment, people’s life expectancy is longer. Moreover, most people now can afford to buy foods of high nutrition and enjoy their leisure time. Thirdly, modern conveniences such as radio, TV, internet, various vehicles and labour-saving machines in the home, all greatly facilitate human communication, transportation and housework as well. Nevertheless, living in the 21st century also has its disadvantages. The most serious one is the increasingly polluted environment; air is filled with smog and water is contaminated by iehemicals from factories.Another main disadvantage is the personalization of human relattonships which mostly result from people’s ever-increasing contact with machines and numbers. Still one more disadvantage is the weakening of spiritual values. An undeniable fact is that a large number of people are solely interested in materialistic culture, while neglecting spiritual civilization. Limited by space, we have to skip the examples. In conclusion, although the 21st century has indeed given us a lot of advantages, it may not have made us wiser, because it has also made our earth dirtier, our people less humane, and our spirituali iife poorer, We shpuld continue to enjoy the benefits of technological advancement, however, we must make a concerted effort to preserve our natural environment for future generations. Moreover, we should take the time now to make our lives more meaningful in anihcreasingly impersonal, computerized world. 全国大学英语四级考前作文预测 二 On responsibility .(关于个人责任) We Chinese place a high value on responsibility. Currently, whether to start a career after graduation has become a hot topic among people, especially among the young, and heated debates are right on their way. People's opinions about this issue vary from person to person. I consider that starting our own business tends to pose a considerable number of threats to our future. First and foremost, compared with graduate education, our knowledge will be limited and our horizons will be narrowed if we choose to take a position after graduation due to the fact that possessing a bachelor’s degree is to maintain one’s competitiveness. In addition, applying for a job is likely to take up our precious time which can be used for more valuable activities. Taking all these factors into consideration, we naturally come to the conclusion that we should be prudent and cautious when we face various options after graduation. People's opinions about this issue vary from person to person. I consider that living in a big city tends to pose a considerable number of threats to our future. First and foremost, since the phenomenon of left-behind children has arisen as one of the most fearful social situations, parents are likely to have less family time with their children, which is detrimental to fostering harmonious families. Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topicChoices after Graduation. You should write at least 150 words, and base your composition onthe table and the outline (given in Chinese) below: 1)根据下图描述某高校近两年毕业生去向分布情况 2)分析这样分布的原因 【范文】 Choices after Graduation From the above table, we can see that the students of this university have three mainchoices after graduation. Of these choices, the students who have found a job only take up50%. In contrast, students who pursue further study by taking the postgraduate entranceexam or going abroad have increased greatly than before, with the total percentage of 47%.Indeed, this phenomenon is also quite common in other universities. The following factors can account for the choices of graduates. Above all, with theenrollment extension of universities, college graduates are facing the severe employmentsituation, which forces them to find another way out. Moreover, in information age, knowledgeis updated very rapidly. Many college students find their knowledge is not enough for theirfuture career. Besides, some college students would not like to enter into the complicatedsociety and want to escape from the reality temporarily by going to further study. From my point of view, one’s choice after graduation should be based on his individualcondition. Though taking the postgraduate entrance exam or going abroad for further study isa good choice, it is not necessarily true of everyone, because it might involve many factors, such as your future career direction, your economic condition. Therefore, we should take a fullaccount before we make our decisions. Do Mobiles Distract Study Therever you are, you can see many people equipped with mobile phones. It seems that the world becomes smaller nowadays. You could be found wherever you are so long as you take the mobile phone with you. And mobile phones are also becoming a new scene on campus. Students think it is extremely convenient for them to communicate with the outside world by using mobile phones, especially when they are hunting for jobs, so they call it an essential investment. Education experts analyze the entry of mobile phones into campus as an indication of social progress. And mobile phones have been considered advanced for its attractive functions. the youth of today send messages, surf on the net, listen to music and even take photos by using their mobile phones. To some extent, it reflects that college students are more and more involved in this modern society, rather than pedants in the “ivory tower”. As a coin has two sides, the mobile phone, while providing convenience, causes trouble too. In classrooms, the untimely ringing interrupts lectures and destroys the atmosphere of study, so it prompts many complaints. And the mobile phone users themselves also suffer. Therefore, we need to think more about how to integrate mobile phones properly into our lives.
