Wearing School Uniforms Should be Compulsory The topic whether students should wear school uniforms has raised heated discussion in the society. In my opinion, wearing school uniforms is necessary and should be compulsory.
Wearing school uniforms help to prevent students being judged by appearance and maintain the uniformity and equality between students. Uniform is for the sake of uniformity and equality, reducing the harassment of students whose clothes are different or who can’t afford the new “in”thing. Some may claim that school uniforms are too expensive for students from poor family to afford. However, the price of school uniforms is much lower than the clothes that poor students buy to keep up their appearance in front of rich students. It’s worthy to spend some money to buy school uniforms when it can help prevent the comparison of dressing.
Uniforms improve class discipline and student behavior. Students have no chance talking about issue like who is dressed differently or shabbily, so that avoiding fight or quarrel on such issue. Students’behavior tends to improve outside school since the uniform is identified to the community. Certainly, violence in or outside campus is impossible to be completely eradicated just by wearing uniforms, but it can be reduced to a lower rate.
What’s more important, school uniforms promote campus security. A great many
of students get bullied because they are easily recognized by what they are wearing by some unruly elements. Wearing school uniforms cuts down such incident because students are dressed in the same clothes, and those who are not from the school can be identify by the campus guard. It is true that students’ individualism will be restricted to some extent when wearing uniforms. However, the safety of students is much more important that the individualism in this situation. Students have plenty of opportunities to express their individualism, and they don’t really have to show it through their clothes.
We can see from the above that wearing school uniforms are beneficial to both schools and students. It is definitely a wise decision to make it compulsory.
