There are many places to go on safari(观赏野生动物) in Africa, but riding a horse 16 the flooded waters of Botswana’s Okavango Delta(三角洲) must be one of the world’s most exciting wildlife 17 .

Several safari camps operate as the base for this adventure, 18 special rides twice a day to explore deep into the delta. The camps have excellent horses, professional guides and lots of support workers.

The morning ride, when the guides take you to beautiful, shallow lakes 19 water lilies(睡莲), tends to be more active. It isn’t like any other riding experience. With rainbows forming in the splashing water around you and the sound of huge drops of water bouncing off your body and face, it is 20 exciting. You are very likely to see large wild animals, too. On horseback it is 21 to get quite close to elephants, giraffes and many other animals. The sense of excitement and tension(紧张) levels rise suddenly 22 you move closer to them.

In the evening, rides are usually slower and more unhurried, with golden light streaming across the grassy delta and the animals coming out to eat and drink.

23 and peaceful though they are, rides at this time of day are still very impressive. As the sun's rays pass through the dust 24 up by the horses, the romance of Africa comes to life.

Looking back on your day, you will find 25 hard to deny(否认) that a horseback Safari is as close as you will ever come to answering the call of the wild.

My kids and I were heading into the supermarket over the weekend. On the way, we spotted a man holding a piece of paper that said, “Lost my job. Family to feed.”

At this store, a sight like this is not normal. My 10-year-old noticed him and made a comment(评论) on how bad it must be to have to stand outside in the cold wind.

In the store, I asked each of my kids to pick something they thought our “friend”there would appreciate. They got apples, a sandwich and a bottle of juice. Then my 17-year-old suggested giving him a gift card. I thought about it. We were low on cash ourselves, but … well, sometimes giving from our need instead of our abundance(充裕) is just what we need to do! All the kids declared(宣称) something they could do away with for the week.

When we handed him the bag of food, he lit up and thanked us with watery eyes. When I handed him the gift card, saying he could use it for whatever his family might need, he burst into tears.

This has been a wonderful experience for our family. For days the kids have been looking for others we can help! Argentina in the late nineteenth century was an exciting place. Around 1870, it was experiencing an economic boom(经济繁荣), and the capital, Buenos Aires, attracted many people. Farmers, as well as many foreigners from Spain and Italy, came to Buenos Aires looking for jobs. These jobs didn’t pay well, and the people felt lonely with their new life in the city. As the unhappy newcomers mixed together in the poor parts of the city, the dance known as the tango(探戈舞) came into being.

At the beginning the tango was a dance of the lower classes(阶级). It was danced in the bars and streets. At that time women were fewer than men, so if a man didn’t want to be left out, his only choice was to dance with another man so that he could attract the attention of the women. Gradually, the dance spread into the upper classes of Argentinean society and became more respectable.

In Europe at this time, strong interest in dance from around the world was beginning. The interest in international dance was especially strong in Paris. Every kind of dance from ballet to belly dancing could be found in Paris theaters. After tango dances from Argentina arrive in Europe, they began to draw the interest of the public as they performed their exciting dance in cafes, though not everyone liked the new dance, the dance did find enough supporters to make it popular.

The popularity of the tango continued to grow in many other parts of the world. Soldiers(士兵) who returned to the United States from World War I brought the tango to North America, It reached Japan in 1926, and in 2003 a tango dancer of South Korea was hired to act as a kind of dance ambassador(大使) and promote tango dancing

Honey(蜂蜜) from the African forest is not only a kind of natural sugar, it is also delicious. Most people, and many animals, like eating it. though, people and animals looking for honey have a strange and unexpected helper -- a little bird called a honey guide.

The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax(蜡) in the beehives(蜂房). The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees’ nest. So, when it finds a suitable nest, it looks for someone to help it. The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the attention of both passing animals and people. Once it has their attention, it flies through the forest, waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they finally arrive at the nest, the follower reaches in to get the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always fall to the ground, and this is when the honey guide takes its share.

Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax, but it is very determined in its efforts to get it. The birds seem to be able to smell wax from a long distance away. They will quickly arrive whenever a beekeeper is taking honey from his beehives, and will even enter churches when beeswax candles are being lit.
