I want to tell you about some of my favorite places that I think you should go to when you come to China.First, you have to go to Beijing! Beijing is the capital city and it's where I live. There are so many fun things to see and do in Beijing. The Forbidden City is this huge, beautiful palace where the emperors used to live a long time ago. It has hundreds of rooms and the architecture is stunning with lots of red and yellow colors. I love exploring the different hallways and courtyards.Another must-see in Beijing is the Great Wall of China. It's an enormous wall that was built a really long time ago to protect China from invaders. You can actually walk along parts of the Great Wall - it winds up and down over the mountains and hills. It's an incredible feat of engineering and construction. My legs always get tired from climbing up and down all the steep steps, but the views are breathtaking.Beijing also has amazing food! You have to try the famous Peking duck. It's a special way of roasting and preparing duck that makes the skin super crispy. You wrap the duck meat andskin in thin pancakes with plum sauce and green onions. So delicious! I also really love the jianbing, which is kind of like a crepe or thin omelette with lots of delicious fillings and sauces.Next, I think everyone should visit Shanghai. Shanghai is in eastern China and it's the biggest city in the whole country. It's a really modern, futuristic city with tons of skyscrapers and bright lights at night. The Bund area along the river is my favorite spot - there are historic buildings on one side and then all the modern skyscrapers on the other side. It looks so cool!One of the best things about Shanghai is all the incredible street food. There are little stalls and hole-in-the-wall restaurants everywhere selling delicious snacks and dishes. My favorite is xiaolongbao, which are small soup dumplings with hot broth inside. You have to be really careful when you bite into them so the soup doesn't spill out! I also love eating shengjianbao, which are pan-fried buns stuffed with pork. And don't miss out on jianbing, stir-fried noodles, and shaved ice desserts!Another city I love is Xi'an. Xi'an is one of the oldest cities in China, so it has a lot of amazing historic sites. The most famous thing in Xi'an is the Terracotta Warriors. These are thousands of life-size warrior statues that were buried with China's first emperor over 2,000 years ago to protect him in the afterlife. It'scrazy - each warrior statue is unique with different facial features and details. The whole area where they were discovered is fascinating to walk around.Xi'an also has the best food! The delicious Xi'an flatbreads and noodle dishes are my favorite. The most famous is probably roujiamo, which is hickory smoked meat stuffed inside a flatbread pocket. So flavorful and yummy! And you have to get some spicy hot oil noodles called biang biang noodles. The noodles are super thick and chewy.Those are some of my favorite cities in China, but there are so many other amazing places, too. Chengdu is famous for its cute giant pandas. Hangzhou has beautiful gardens and the stunning West Lake area. Guilin has those crazy karst mountain formations that look like scenery from another planet. Wherever you go in China, I know you'll be wowed by the incredible history, culture, architecture, and of course, food! I feel so lucky to call China my home country. I remember walking through the huge courtyards and gardens and just being amazed at how beautiful and grand everything was.My favorite part was climbing up the artificial coal hill to look out over the yellow-tiled roofs. Beijing also has incredible museums like the National Museum of China where you can see ancient relics and learn about China's long history. And don't forget the delicious Beijing roast duck!Xi'anAnother city I really enjoyed was Xi'an. It's most famous for the Terracotta Warriors - thousands of life-sized clay soldier statues buried underground to guard an emperor's tomb over2,000 years ago! It was crazy seeing the rows and rows of intense warrior faces when we went into the excavation pits. So cool!Xi'an also has one of the best ancient city walls in China that you can even ride a bike around. The Muslim Quarter is a fun area with loads of tasty food stalls and shops selling souvenirs. I picked up some little terracotta warrior statues as gifts there.ChengduThe city of Chengdu isn't as well-known for sights, but it makes my list because...pandas! The Chengdu Research Base is basically a panda paradise. You can watch the adorable pandas munching on bamboo, tumbling around, and even see babies in the nursery areas. They are so fuzzy and lazy - kind of like furballs just chilling all day. I could hang out with those guys forever.Chengdu itself was neat too, with its classic Chinese architecture and peaceful park areas. Don't miss trying one of the extremely spicy Sichuan hot pot restaurants if you're brave enough!ShanghaiOkay, let's switch to a huge, modern city now - Shanghai! This place felt like a Total futuristic wonderland to me. The skyline is absolutely mind-blowing, with super tall skyscrapersand space-age buildings covered in lights and video screens. You've got to walk along the Bund waterfront at night and just take in the amazing views.My dad really wanted to see the Shanghai World Financial Center tower, which has an observation deck with a glass skywalk you can walk across...terrifying for someone scared of heights like me! The Shanghai Museum was cool for seeing ancient Chinese artifacts like jade sculptures and bronze work. And no trip to Shanghai is complete without strolling around the classical Yuyuan Garden and nibbling on xiaolongbao soup dumplings.GuilinThe last city I'll mention is Guilin, which isn't a huge metropolis, but makes up for it with unbelievable natural scenery. Guilin is famous for its unique hills and rock formations that seem to just jut up vertically from the ground. Taking a boat cruise down the Lijiang River to see the lush green peaks all around you is simply breathtaking.We also took a side trip from Guilin to Yangshuo County, which had the craziest natural rock formations I've ever witnessed. My dad called them "sugarloaf mountains" because of their weird, twisted shapes. We went rock climbing up somesmall ones, which was scary but awesome finally reaching the top and getting a panoramic view.
