But many can be guessed. Newer phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers often have strengthened security with fingerprint and facial recognition. But these can be imitated. That is why a new approach, behavioural biometrics (行为生物识别) is gaining ground. It relies on the wealth of measurements made by today’s devices. These include data from sensors that reveal how people hold their phones when using them, how they carry them and even the way they walk. Touchscreens, keyboards and mice can be monitored to show the unique ways in which someone’s fingers and hands move. These features can then be used to determine whether someone attempting to make a deal is likely to be the device’s habitual user.“Behavioural biometrics make it possible to identify an individual’s unique motion fingerprint,” says John Whaley, head of Unifyid, a firm in Silicon Valley that is involved in the field. When coupled with information about a user’s finger pressure and speed on the touchscreen, as well as a device’s regular places of use-as revealed by its GPS unit —that user’s identity can be pretty well determined.Used wisely, behavioural biometrics could be a great benefit. In fact, Unifyid and an unnamed car company are even developing a system that unlocks the doors of a vehicle once the pace of the driver, as measured by his phone, is recognized. Used unwisely, however, the system would become yet another electronic spy on people’s priva cy, permitting complete strangers to monitor your every action, from the moment you reach for your phone in the morning, to when you throw it on the floor at night.8. What is behavioural biometrics for?A.To identify network crime. B.To ensure network security.C.To track online fraud. D.To gather online data.9. How does behavioural biometrics work?A.By offering and analyzing the operating system of devices.B.By spotting and revealing a device’s regular places of use.C.By restricting and detecting the access to an account of users.D.By monitoring and comparing the ways users interact with devices.10. What’s the author’s attitude towards behavioural biometrics?A.Objective. B.Concerned. C.Doubtful. D.Supportive.11. From which section of a magazine can this text possibly be taken?A.Health and wealth. B.Books and arts.C.Science and technology. D.Finance and economics.A simple gesture can be formed into a child’s memory so quickly that it will cause the child to give a false answer to a question accompanied by that gesture. A new finding suggests that parents, social workers, psychologists and lawyers should be careful with their hands as well as their words. While memories of both adults and children are easy to react to suggestion, those of children are known to be particularly influenced, said lead researcher Sara Broaders of Northwestern University. Kids are used to looking to adults to tell events for them and can be misled even if not intentionally.Previous research, for example, has shown that detail-loaded questions often cause false answers; when asked, say “Did you drink juice at the picnic?” the child is likely to say “yes” even if no juice had been available. It is not that the child is consciously lying, but rather the detail is quickly formed into his or her memory. To avoid this problem, social workers have long been advised to ask children only open- ended questions, such as “What did you have at the picnic?” But an open-ended question paired with a gesture, briefly meaning a juice box, is treated like a detailed question. That is,children become likely to answer falsely. And it isn’t just a few kids: 77% of children gave at least one piece of false information when a detail was suggested by an ordinary gesture. Gestures may also become more popular when talking with non-fluent language users, such as little kids, Broaders said as hand movements can impart meaning of unfamiliar words and phrases. “It certainly seems reasonable that adults would gesture more with children. ’’I n general, Broaders advises parents and other adults to “try to be aware of your hands when questioning a child about an event. Otherwise, you might be getting answers that don’t reflect what actually happened. ’’12. What can we know about gestures from the text?A.They are rarely used by people. B.They have certain effect on children.C.They have not any function at all. D.They are often used by social workers.13. Why are kids easy to be misled by gestures according to Sara Broaders?A.Children are easy to tell lies. B.These gestures are very attractive.C.Their memories are affected easily. D.These gestures are used frequently.14. Which may cause a wrong reply according to the text?A.Where are you going Lucy?B.What will you have for lunch?C.Did you see anything else last night?D.Did you cheat in the last English examination?15. What does the underlined word “impart” in Paragraph 5 mean?A.Pass on. B.Tell apart.C.Confuse. D.Separate.Every child should know some basic first aid skills. This is true whether your child is four or fourteen. 16Calling for helpOnce your child reaches the age of four, he should know all about calling 911 in the event of an emergency. 17 For example, he should call 911 if an adult asks him to, if an adult passes out and cannot be woken, if there is a fire and he can't find an adult, or if people are hurt.As I am typing this, I just realized that although my kids are taught about 911, the telephones in the house are out of reach for all but my oldest child (to prevent the other two from playing with the phone). 18 You do hope your children can get in touch with the police in time.Cuts and scrapes(擦伤)Teach children about basic care for cuts and scrapes. In my house, the kids all know that cuts must be cleaned and know where the bandages are. They also know how to put pressure on a cut to make it stop bleeding. This is important if no adult is with your child when a burn occurs.I was living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is a _________ city, with more people living in it than in my whole country. 关于文化差异产生误解的英语作文

关于文化差异产生误解的英语作文

关于文化差异产生误解的英语作文Cultural differences often lead to misunderstandings. These misunderstandings can occur on both personal and global levels, causing conflict and hindering communication. The root of these issues lies in the differing values, beliefs, and norms that are inherent to each culture. When these differences are not understood or respected, it can lead to mistaken perceptions and miscommunication. One of the main reasons for cultural misunderstandings is the tendency to judge others based on our own cultural standards. This ethnocentric view can lead to the belief that our way of doing things is the only correct way. This can lead to misunderstandings when comparing behaviors, traditions, and customs from different cultures. For example, in some cultures, direct eye contact is a sign ofattentiveness and respect, while in others, it may be seen as confrontational or disrespectful.Language is also a significant factor in cultural misunderstandings. Even when speaking the same language, words and phrases can hold different meanings and connotations in different cultures. This can lead to unintentional offense and confusion. Additionally, nonverbal communication such as body language and facial expressions can vary widely between cultures and can be easily misinterpreted. In some cases, cultural misunderstandings stem from stereotypes and prejudices. These preconceived notions about different cultures can lead to biased assumptions and judgments. This can create barriers to building mutual understanding and respect, as individuals may not take the time to learn about the true complexities and nuances of a particular culture.Globalization has also contributed to cultural misunderstandings as people from different cultures come into contact more frequently. While this can lead to enriched perspectives and cultural exchange, it can also exacerbate misunderstandings due to the clash of values and traditions. This can be seen in issues such as cultural appropriation and the spread of misinformation and stereotypes through mediaand popular culture.Cultural misunderstandings can have serious consequences, from strained personal relationships to international conflicts. It is therefore crucial to address and mitigate these misunderstandings. This can be achieved through education, open-mindedness, and communication. By learning about and understanding different cultures, individuals can gain the empathy and awareness needed to bridge cultural gaps.Engaging in open and respectful communication is also essential for overcoming cultural misunderstandings. Throughactive listening and dialogue, individuals can clarify misunderstandings, correct misconceptions, and build mutual respect. It is important for individuals to be mindful of their own cultural biases and to approach interactions with humility and an open heart and mind.In conclusion, cultural differences can often lead to misunderstandings. These misunderstandings can arise from ethnocentrism, language barriers, stereotypes, and globalization. However, through education, open-mindedness, and respectful communication, individuals can work to understand, appreciate, and celebrate cultural differences. This can lead to greater harmony and cooperation between different cultures, fostering a world where diversity is valued and understood.。

孔子学院夏令营在汉招募志愿者英语作文

孔子学院夏令营在汉招募志愿者英语作文

孔子学院夏令营在汉招募志愿者英语作文My Super Fun Summer at the Confucius Institute Camp!Hi everyone! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. I just had the most amazing summer and I can't wait to tell you all about it! This year, I was a volunteer at the Confucius Institute summer camp. The Confucius Institute is an awesome place that teaches kids like me all about Chinese language and culture. They had a special camp just for kids over the summer with all sorts of fun activities and games to learn about China. I had such a blast! When my mom first told me about volunteering at the camp, I wasn't sure what to think. I didn't know that much about China besides eating Chinese food like egg rolls and fried rice. But my mom said it would be a great way to learn about a new culture and make some new friends. I figured I'd give it a try since I didn't have anything else going on over summer break. Little did I know, it would end up being one of the best experiences ever!On the very first day of camp, I was greeted by the nicest group leaders from China. Their names were Li Laoshi and Zhang Laoshi and they were so welcoming and excited to have me as a volunteer. They started teaching me some basic Chinese wordsand phrases right away. Stuff like "Nǐhǎo" for hello, "Xièxiè" for thank you, and how to count to ten. I picked it up pretty quickly! Li Laoshi told me I was a great student. After the introductions, it was time to start setting up for all the campers to arrive. We blew up colorful Chinese lanterns to hang around the room and set up tables with calligraphy sets, abacuses, crafts, and games. Zhang Laoshi showed me how to straighten the tables because making them crooked brings bad luck and bad energy or "feng shui." I felt like I was learning so much already!Soon enough, the first group of campers started arriving with their parents. There were kids of all ages from little preschoolers to middle schoolers. Li Laoshi and Zhang Laoshi greeted them in Chinese and had them introduce themselves one by one. I got to be their helper and hand out name tags with each kid's name translated to Chinese characters. The kids thought that was so cool!Once all the campers checked in, the activities started rolling! My main job as a volunteer was to help out with anything the teachers and kids needed. In the mornings, we started with Chinese language lessons covering basic vocabulary, reading, and writing. The kids played games and did activities to practice, like bingo with Chinese characters or singing little songs. I helped Li Laoshi pass out worksheets and markers. I was surprised how quickly I started picking up the language too just from being immersed in it!After the language lessons, we moved on to cultural activities and that's where things got really fun! One day, we learned the ancient art of calligraphy. We each got a bamboo brush, ink stone, and paper to practice writing beautiful Chinese characters. The kids made such a mess with the ink but it was all part of the fun. Zhang Laoshi showed me the correct way to hold the brush and complimented my natural talent. By the end, my calligraphy piece looked pretty good!Another day, we did crafts like making traditional Chinese paper lanterns,折纸origami, and രestamp masks for the Chinese New Year. The kids' creations were all so colorful and creative. I made a paper dragon mask and loved how it turned out. We also learned some fun Chinese games that day like juggling hollowed-out bouncy balls called 毽球jianzi and doing kickball with a weighted feather ball. Those games were hard but so entertaining to watch. My favorite activity though was learning some Chinese martial arts moves from a visiting martial arts master! He taughtus basic kicks and punches from disciplines like kung fu and wushu. We got to spar with padded rods and break boards with our hands and feet. I felt like such a pro when I broke my first board. At the end, the master choreographed a short martial arts performance for all the kids to do and invited the parents to come watch. We had the best time acting it out on "stage!"During our lunch breaks, we got to sample all sorts of yummy Chinese foods. Everything from dumplings and spring rolls to noodle dishes and barbeque sticks. The teachers taught us how to properly use chopsticks and had contests to see who could pick up the most items with them. I'm still not the best with chopsticks but I'll get there! We also learned about different Chinese teas and got to have a traditional tea tasting. My favorite was the jasmine green tea - so delicious and fragrant. At the end of each day, we had time for games, songs, and stories all about Chinese culture and holidays. We learned about traditional celebrations like the Chinese New Year, the Moon Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival. Zhang Laoshi told us funny legends and folktales with animal characters like the Monkey King and Jade Rabbit. Sometimes we played fun trans games like charades or had talent shows where the kids performed skits about the stories. On our last day, we had a big closing ceremony where each kid got their very own "Chinese name" chosen by the teachers based on their personality. The teachers called each of us up in front of everyone and explained why they chose our Chinese name and what traits it represented. When they called my name "Emma," Li Laoshi gave me the Chinese name 思淡which means "one with a calm mind." She said I had been such a patient and determined helper all summer. I felt so proud! After the ceremony, we had one final banquet feast with all sorts of delicious Chinese dishes. We even had a traditional Chinese ballet performance done by older students. At the end, we all exchanged hugs and contact information. I gave Li Laoshi and Zhang Laoshi big hugs and told them "Xièxiè" a million times for such an amazing summer. I was so sad for it to be over but so grateful for the wonderful experience. That summer really opened my eyes to how fascinating and beautiful the Chinese culture is. I learned so much about everything from language and art to food and history. More importantly though, I made so many great new friends from all over the world who also love China. We still keep in touch and practice our Chinese together online. I can't wait to join theConfucius Institute again next year and take classes during the school year too!If you're a kid interested in exploring different cultures, I can't recommend the Confucius Institute summer camp enough. You'll have a blast learning new things, trying new activities, and making friends from all around the globe. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite hobby or passion like I did! Just make sure you study hard, be a great helper, and keep an open mind to embracing traditions that might seem strange at first. I promise it will be one of the most amazing, eye-opening experiences ever. Thank you Confucius Institute for an unforgettable summer! Xièxiè!。
