Fiona tapped on the door. 'Hurry up in there,' she called. 'Nearly finished,' replied Bertha. 'I must colour my hair before I go jogging,' said Fiona. Bertha came out of the bathroom. She had a towel wrapped around her head. 'I feel much better,' said Bertha. 'I've left the bathroom tidy.' 'Look at the time,' said Fiona. 'I shall be late.' Fiona dashed into the bathroom. She splashed on her hair colour. She was in such a hurry that she did not look in the mirror. 'Have a lovely run,' said Bertha. 019 Fiona jogged down the road. She ran through the park. Fiona saw a little kitten sitting on a wall. 'Hello, little kitty.' She stretched out to stroke the kitten. The kitten ran up a tree. A policeman was passing by. 'I saw you frighten that kitten. What an unkind thing to do.' 'I only tried to stroke it,' mumbled Fiona. She jogged on towards the playground. Some children were playing on the swings. 'Would you like a push?' she called. The children took one look at Fiona. They jumped off the swings and ran away. The park keeper raced up. 'What do you think you are doing? You were chasing those children. Go and chase someone your own size.' Fiona ran off. 021 Fiona stopped for a rest outside the supermarket. An old lady was pushing her trolley towards the door. Fiona ran over to help. She held open the door. 'After you,' she said. 'It's a trick.

English: After reading "Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus" by Mary Shelley, I couldn't help feeling sympathy for the so-called "monster" in the story. It becomes apparent as the narrative unfolds that the creature is not inherently evil, but rather a product of its creator's neglect and rejection. The loneliness and societal rejection experienced by the creature evoke feelings of pity rather than fear. Furthermore, the monster's yearning for companionship and understanding resonates with readers on a human level, highlighting the themes of acceptance and compassion. The novel serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of playing god and the importance of taking responsibility for one's creations. Overall, "Frankenstein" challenges readers to question the true nature of monstrosity and challenges the boundaries of empathy and understanding.

After reading "The Unlucky Monster of Exemplary English," I couldn't help but feel a mix of sympathy and amusement for the main character, the unlucky monster. The story is a humorous and lighthearted take on the challenges faced by non-native English speakers, using the monster as a metaphor for those who struggle with the language.Throughout the story, the unlucky monster encounters various obstacles and mishaps as he tries to navigate the intricacies of English. From mispronouncing words to confusing idioms, the monster's attempts to communicate often result in comical misunderstandings. One example that stood out to me was when the monster tried to order a "hot dog" but ended up getting a literal dog served to him instead. This scene perfectly captures the difficulties faced by non-native English speakers when faced with unfamiliar vocabulary and cultural references. What I found particularly relatable about the story is that it highlights the importance of perseverance and a positive attitude in language learning. Despite the monster's numerous setbacks, he never gives up and continues to push forward. This resonated with me as I have experienced similar challenges in my own language learning journey. It reminded me that mistakes and failures are a natural part of the learning process and should be embraced rather than discouraged.Furthermore, "The Unlucky Monster of Exemplary English" also serves as a reminder of the diversity and richness of the English language. The story showcases the vast array of idioms, expressions, and wordplay that make English such a fascinating and dynamic language. It made me appreciate the complexity and beauty of English even more, while also acknowledging the difficulties it presents to non-native speakers. In conclusion, "The Unlucky Monster of Exemplary English" is a delightful and insightful story that shedslight on the challenges faced by non-native English speakers. It humorously captures the struggles, mishaps, and triumphs of language learning, ultimately reminding us of the importance of perseverance and a positive attitude. Through the unlucky monster's journey, we are reminded of the richness and diversity of the English language, making us appreciate it even more.

I recently read the book "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers, and it left quite an impact on me. The story follows a young man named Steve Harmon who is on trial for his alleged involvement in a robbery that led to murder. Through journal entries, screenplay excerpts, and trial transcripts, the novel explores the complexities of guilt, innocence, and the criminal justice system.

One of the most compelling aspects of the book is the way it challenges the reader to question their assumptions about guilt and innocence. Steve's internal struggles as he navigates the legal process force us to confront our own biases and preconceptions about who is deserving of sympathy and who is not. The novel doesn't provide easy answers, but rather encourages us to engage with the moral ambiguity of the situation.

There's Nessie of course - but she only talks to me when she feels like it.
She only plays with me when she feels like playing. So I'm lonely, and that's why I think Nessie is right when she calls me the Luckless Monster. 015 3 How do you find a friend? One day, I woke up and I said to myself, 'Enough is enough. Today is the day I will find a real friend, a good friend. Nessie doesn't care if she has a friend, but I do.'
Aghh!
Waaa! AAGGHH! The grown ups said, 'Don't be silly. There are no such things as monsters. That's just a shadow. Come along, now. Hurry up.' People were either scared of me - or they didn't believe in me. It was hopeless. So I sulked. I'm very good at sulking. I can do it for ages.

1 Monsters
Do you think you know all about monsters?
You've probably heard of the Big Bad Troll.
He was famous for frightening goats.
You've probably heard of the deadly dragon.
My real name is Flossie.
Hello
This is where we live.
It's a bit wild … a bit windy … a bit wet, but it's home to us.
I love it here.
But it can be lonely.
Scaredy cat! Cry baby! To tell you the truth, Nessie is a bit of a bully. But nothing Nessie can do would make me get back in that whirlpool again. Never! 011 2 No one cares about YOU! You probably know that the Loch Ness Monster (or Nessie for short) is good at hiding.
I belong to the same family as Nessie.
I live in the same loch as Nessie.
I swim in the same water. I hunt for the same fish. But we do have our differences. 007 For instance, the Loch Ness Monster is huge and scary. But I'm a bit on the small side. Sometimes Nessie calls me Titch or Shrimp. The Loch Ness Monster swims down to the dark depths of the loch. But I'm a bit scared of the dark.
No one cares if you exist!' she says.
'Na na na na na,' Nessie sings.
No one tries to take photos of you! No one talks about you. No one cares about YOU at all.' It's true. I don't have any real friends.
'What exactly is a friend?' I asked.
'A friend is someone who is like you, just like you,' she said. 'But no one is like us, so we CAN'T have friends. Better just to settle for scaring people.' 017 Then she gave a roar that sent me skittering away. 'It works for me,' she grinned. 'I love scaring people!' But I didn't give up. I was determined to find a friend. I asked all the animals I met, 'Please be my friend.' This is what they said: Miaou! No! You're too wet. Go away! No, you are too big! Buzz off! I don't give a hoot! Moo…ve! Hop it! Leg it! Leg it!
Sometimes Nessie calls me Scaredy Cat.
The Loch Ness Monster swims swift and sure. But I'm not all that keen on water. I don't like the cold and wet. I don't like the high waves. I don't like the deep pools and I HATE the whirlpool. This is the whirlpool. It goes round and round and round, and whatever is in the whirlpool goes round and round with it. 009
They were saying things that sounded very familiar to me. Titch! Scaredy cat! Cry baby! Four eyes! The girl was crying and she was wearing glasses - but not for long.
They call her Nessie.
Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster.
I've got a nickname too.
Nessie calls me the Luckless Monster.
She calls me Luckless because I never seem to have any luck at all, but Luckless isn't my real ame.
There she is! Oh, it's just a rock. There! There! There! It's just an upturned boat. People who make films, and people who write for newspapers and magazines, are always trying to spot Nessie. They want to take her photo. They want to make a film about her. They want her to be in their newspapers or magazines. She's famous. She's a celebrity.
I stayed perfectly still, crossed my arms, drooped my bottom lip and got ready for a HUGE sulk.
I was just getting into it, when I heard a noise. 021 A group of children were going up to a little girl.
Nessie LOVES it, 'Wheee!' she yells.
'Yeeeeeeeeh!' she yells, and, 'Come and have a go if you think you're brave enough!' I had a go once. I HATED it.
The water went up my nose, I couldn't see anything and I felt dizzy and sick.
We monsters have learned the art of camouflage.
