I’ll have my house painted tomorrow.

When I opened the door, I found the fallen leaves covering the ground.

She found her necklace gone on her way home.(3)动词seat, hide, dress 等的过去分词作宾语补足语一般表示宾语的状态,而不表示被动或完成的意义。

They kept the door locked for a long time.Don’t leave the windows broken like this all the time.(2)使役动词make, have, get等后面表示“致使某人或某事被……,请别人做某事”。

As for colds, the sooner aE836L11DO5person starts taking over the medications available, the sooner relief will come. The common cold and the flu are both caused by viruses. More than 200 viruses can cause cold symptoms, while the flu is caused by three viruses — flu A, B and C. There is no cure for either illness, but the flu can be prevented by the flu vaccine (疫苗) , which is, for most people, the best wayto fight the flu, according to the ALA. S42ehLvE3MBut the flu does strike, quick action can help. Although the flu and common cold have many501nNvZFissimilarities, there are some obvious signs to look for.Cod symptoms such as stuffy nose, running nose and scratchy throat typically developed gradually, and adults and teens often do not get a fever. On the other hand, fever is one of the characteristic features of the flu for all ages. And in general, flu symptoms including fever and coldness, painful throat and body aches come on suddenly and are more worrying than cold symptoms.jW1viftGw9The ALA notes that it may be particularly difficult to tell when babies and preschool age children have the flu. It advises parents to call the doctor if their small children have flu-like symptoms.xS0DOYWHLPBoth cold and flu symptoms can be eased with the medications as well. However, children and teens with a cold or flu should not take aspirin for pain relief because of the risk of Reye syndrome (综合症) .LOZMkIqI0wThere is, of cause, no vaccine for the common cold. But frequent hand washing and avoiding closeZKZUQsUJedcontact with people who have colds can reduce the probability catching one.dGY2mcoKtT51.According to the author, knowing the cause of the discomfort will help ____________.A.prevent people from catching colds and the fluB.the patient obtain cheaper drugsC.the patient buy medicineD. shorten the period of the illness52. But how you say it can be quite tricky. e5TfZQIUB5If you say to your children "I'm sorry I got angry with you, but... ", what follows that "but" can makethe apology ineffective: "I had a bad day" or "your noise was giving me a headache" leaves the childs1SovAcVQMwho has been injured feeling that he should be apologizing for his bad behavior.Another method by which people appear to apologize without actually doing so is to say "I'm sorry you're upset"; this suggests that you are somehow at fault for allowing yourself to get upset byGXRw1kFW5swhat the other person has done. These pseudo(虚假的 )-apologies are used by people who believe saying sorry shows weakness. Parents who wish to teach their children to apologize should see it as a sign of strength, and thereforeUTREx49Xj9not turn to these pseudo-apologies.But even when presented with examples of true regret, children still need help to become awareof how difficult it is to say sorry. A three-year-01d might need help in understanding that other children feel pain just as he does, and that hitting a playmate over the head with a heavy toy requiresan apology. A six-year-old might need reminding that spoiling other children's expectations can require an apology. A 12-year-old might need to be shown that taking away the biscuit tin without asking permission is acceptable, but that borrowing a parent's clothes without permission is not.8PQN3NDYyPmLPVzx7ZNw56.If a mother adds "but" to an apology, ____________.A.the child may find the apology easier to acceptAHP35hB02dB.the child may feel that he should apologize to his motherNDOcB141gTC.she does not realize that the child has been hurt1zOk7Ly2vAD.she doesn't feel that she should have apologized57.According to the author, saying "I'm sorry you're upset." most probably means________.fuNsDv23KhA. I didn’t really mind the work, but I wanted something more challenging. My sister sent me some details about a content management position in a digital reading company. The job was a seemingly perfect mix of my skills and interests, so I jumped at it.However, soon after I joined the company, its model changed to focus on education, and everything about my position changed. I was asked to take on the completely different roles of selling the products to teachers and training people. I had no experience in sales, training or education. On top of that, I’m an introvert(内向的人). I felt more than a little outside my comfort zone.I knew I wanted to grow as an individual and make a serious impact on the company. I told myself that everything feels overwhelming(令人不知所措的) at first and I should at least try. In a way, I felt like I didn’t have a choice. I knew jumping out of the nest was the right thing for me, even though it felt pretty awful.I was fortunate to be surrounded by very helpful people, both at work and at home. My best friend reminded me that I had taken huge leaps of faith in the past and told me I would pull through just fine. It also helped that my boss seemed to have more confidence in my capabilities than I did. She never asked if I thought I could do it; she only asked if I was interested in trying.I spent hours researching my company’s products. I asked lots of questions and spoke to so many teachers and there were soon more good experiences than difficult ones. I looked for opportunities to put in extra effort. The more I did, the better I felt.Over time, I discovered that the job was something I could do and liked doing. It was incredibly rewarding to see the company grow and know that I had something to do with its success. Sure, I made mistakes and took on more than I could handle. But I also learned that it’s important to take risks and accept new opportunities, even when you’re not sure whether you’ll do well. I don’t think there’s anything worse than failing because you refuse to even try. I’m so glad I tried, and know I’ll do it again.4.The author changed her job mainly because she __________.A.was not satisfied with her salaryB.got bored with the editing jobC.found a job that seemed perfect for herD.was introduced to the new company5.What happened after she joined the new company?A.She quickly got used to the new position.B.She wanted to quit because of the great pressure.C.The boss thought she was unsuitable for her post.D.Her new duties pushed her to explore her full ability.6.How did the author finally manage to handle her job?A.She always had faith in her abilities.B.Her boss guided her in her work step by step.C.She made every effort to improve her work with the help of others.D.Her colleagues offered to take on some of her tasks.7.Why did the author write this article?A.To warn the reader about the risks of changing jobs.B.To give advice on how to step out of one’s comfort zone.C.To show off the success she had achieved in her challenging new job.D.To share the lessons she had learned from her progress in her new job.Kind-hearted parents have unknowingly left their children defenseless against failure. The generation born between 1980 and 2001 grew up playing sports where scores and performance were not very valued because “everyone’s a winner”. And their report cards sounded more positive than ever before. As a result, Stanford University professor Carol Dweck, PhD, calls them “the overpraised generation”.Dweck has been studying how people deal with failure for 40 years. Her research has led her to find out two clearly different mindsets that have a great effect on how we react to it. Here’s how they work.A fixed mindset is supported by the belief that talent(才能) is genetic -you’re a born artist or mathematician. The fixed mindset believes it’s sure to succeed without much effort and regards failure as personal shame(羞耻). When things get difficult, it’s quick to blame others, lie, and even stay away from future difficulties. On the other hand, a growth mindset believes that no talent is entirely born and that effort and learning make everything possible. Because the ego(自尊) isn’t the most important thing, the growth mindset sees failure as a chance rather than shame. When faced with a difficulty, they are quick to rethink, change and try again. In fact, they enjoy this experience. We are all born with growth mindsets. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to live in the world. But parents, teachers, and instructors often push us into fixed mindsets by encouraging certain actions and misdirected praise. Dweck’s book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, and online instructional program explain this in depth. But she says there are many little things you can start doing today to make sure that your children, grandchildren and even you are never defeated by failure.8.What does the author think about the generation born between 1980 and 2001?A.They don’t do well at school.B.They are often misunderstood.C.They are eager to win in sports.D.They are given too much praise.9.A fixed mindset person is probably the one who __________.A.doesn’t want to work hardB.cares a lot about personal safetyC.cannot share his ideas with othersD.can succeed with the help of teachers10.What does the growth mindset believe?A.Admitting failure is shameful.B.Talent comes with one’s birth.C.Scores should be highly valued.D.Getting over difficulties is enjoyable.11.What should parents do for their children based on Dweck’s study?A.Encourage them to learn from failure.B.Prevent them from making mistakes.C.Guide them through the difficulty.D.Help them grow with praise.Chinese A-level has overtaken(超过) German for the first time, as it becomes the UK’s third most popular language. This year 3,334 students take Chinese A-level, compared to 3,058 taking German. While entries(参加总人数) for Chinese have increased by 8. 6 percent since last year, German entries have reduced by 16. 5 percent. French remains the most popular modem language followed by Spanish, but both have seen a fall 1 in entries compared to last year by eight and four percent respectively.Barnaby Lenon, chair of the Independent Schools Council(ISC), said that although pupils used to be told “It will really help your career if you learn German”, this is no longer the case.“In the 1960s, 70s and even the 80s, pupils were strongly encouraged to study German because of the importance of the German economy. Although it is still strong, that argument has faded, and China has appeared in the last 25 years as the fastest growing economy in the world. ”Mr Lenon, former headmaster of Harrow School, said the rise in Chinese A-level entries is partly driven by private schools, many of which have investe d in the subject in recent years. “It is not the case that a large number of state schools are now teaching Chinese A-level. They are not,” he said. Many of the entries will be Chinese native speakers and he added that independent schools have attracted “large numbers” of Chinese pupils in recent years.Mark Herbert, director of schools and skills at the British Council, welcomed the rise in Chinese A-level entries. He said, “Our research shows that Mandarin will be one of the most important languages for the UK’s future and global standing - but we mustn’t neglect Spanish, French and German which will still be vital for post-Brexit(脱欧). ”Nick Gibb, the schools minister, said, “An outward-looking global nation needs a newgeneration of young people comfortable with the language and culture of our overseas trading partners. ”12.Which language has the largest number of A-level entries in the UK this year?A.Chinese.B.German.C.French.D.Spanish.13.According to the passage, why were the students in the UK encouraged to learn German from the 1960s to 1980s?A.Because UK and Germany are both European countries.B.Because UK and Germany had a long history of exchange.C.Because Germany’s economy was in good condition.D.Because students could study in Germany.14.In Mr Lenon’s view, what has contributed to the increase in Chinese A-level entries in the UK?A.Independent schools and private schools.B.The Chinese culture.C.State schools.D.The fastest growing economy in China.15.What can we learn from Mark Herbert’s words in Paragraph 6?A.He is against learning Chinese.B.Spanish, French and German are the most important to learn.C.It’s difficult to learn Chinese well.D.Britain should attach importance to different foreign languages.二、完形填空do this often because of _______ budget.I noticed a very _______ mom come in with her three children, maybe about age 4 or 5.

Y ou must have your car repaired, for there is something wrong with the engine.

have sth. done 是一个常见句型,have your car repaired 实际就是“让你的车被修理”,一般是找别人去做这项工作。

感官动词:see, hear, feel, notice, find 等,例如:My neighbour found his front door broken into when she came back from shopping.

I have heard him spoken of as a good man.

I’d like the job done when I come back from the journey.

She wanted the decration of her house finished quickly.

3. 使役动词:make, have, get, keep, leave等,例如:He went to the hospital to have his eyes examined.

Don’t leave the door unlocked when you go out.

A man was brought in, with his hands tied behind.

The boy went out to play with all his homework finished.

I found the dog following a man.

I found the dog followed by a man.
