How horrible the traffic is! The picture depicts a scenario of a terrible traffic jam in the street. In fact, the traffic jam is so heavy that it is more of a parking lot than a crowded street①. Anxious passengers cannot take buses because there are few buses. Instead, the street is filled with too many private cars。

Exaggerated as it is, the phenomenon is not uncommon nowadays. With the number of private cars increasing②, traffic jams in metropolitans are bound to happen. Heavy transportation pressure in large cities may bring much inconvenience to people and exert negative impacts on the environment. On the one hand, when traffic jam happens, short distance in the past now seems to become terribly long, and drivers could do nothing but to wait. Therefore, a lot of precious time has been wasted on the road. On the other hand, exhausted gas emitted by cars③has increased the burden of environment and caused carbon emission, which has diverted from the concept of living a low carbon life。

Therefore, effective measures should be taken to alleviate the traffic jam. Firstly, taxes levied on the sales of private cars④should be raised so as to restrict private car ownership rate. Secondly, public transportation such as buses and subways, which are low-carbon transportation means, should be encouraged and promoted so that we can have a smooth transportation。

The pictures vividly reveal that heavy traffic is becoming increasingly serious all over the world．In the first photo，there is traffic congestion on the road with numerous cars，trucks and buses．In the second picture，hundreds of people are waiting for a train。

We can deduce from the pictures that the photographer is trying to attract our attention to the issue of heavy traffic．First of all，every year men and women crowd into cities in search of employment，a decent living，and the excitement and stimulation of urban life．As people in mounting numbers flood into cities，city services and facilities have been strained to a breaking point．In addition，since in a city with booming industry，land is precious and cannot be extravagantly used by traffic，traffic flows constantly rise to fill whatever scale of roads and highways are provided for them。

It is imperative for us to improve this situation．For one thing，the number of private cars should be limited while more bus routes should be opened up because buses can accommodate more passengers．For another，more streets and roads should be constructed．Since neither of the suggestions can effectively solve the problem，there is an increased awareness that the two solutions may be combined with other possible solutions to produce the best effect。

The picture is simple and its meaning is clear: young adults should manage to finance themselves for their higher education rather than rely on their families for support whether they can afford or not.

The market economy and competitive society prompt most young people to drive themselves vigorously studying for higher academic degrees, and some of them are seeking opportunities to study abroad. However, great expense hampers their desire for higher studies. In overcoming the financial obstacle, self reliance is most advisable while dependence on parents or relatives is shameful.

As an adult student, I am planning to pursue graduate studies by work study strategy. My arrangement consists of two steps: First, I shall go through my first two year courses by both winning scholarships with excellent academic achievements and taking part time jobs, such as campus work, teaching assistant, private teacher, etc. Then, I’ll interrupt my regular course to work for a certain organization or

company for one or two years. This I shall do for the double purpose of saving enough money for further education and getting some knowledge of social conditions, which may help to turn my book learning into something practical. When I resume my graduate studies a year or two later, I shall finish my program with a both creative and practical thesis.

Furthermore, I intend to study for a Doctor’s degree in the same way.

The number of 16- to 18-year-olds branded as “Neet” –not in education, employment or training – has risen amid growing fears that school-leavers are bearing the brunt ofjob shortages in the recession.

Some 261,000 young people had no job or training place, according to official data. The figure rose to 1,082,000 among 16- to 24-year-olds.

The Conservatives branded the figures “shocking”.

David Willetts, the shadowskills secretary, said: "It is a damning indictmentof the Government's failure to help young people during the recession.

“Despite all Gordon Brown's guarantees and pledges, the number of young people neither earning nor learning is increasing at a rate of more than 9,000 a week. Ministers must stop making empty gestures that do so little to help young people.”

The Government has a target to reduce the proportion of young Neets to 7.6 per cent by next year.

The latest annual data from the Department for Children, Schools and Families put the figure at 10.3 per cent by the end of 2008.

The percentage of 16 to 18-year-olds who fall into the same bracket remained higher in the past year than in the previous 12 months, it was revealed.

In a further disclosure, figures for the third quarter of this year show almost a fifth of 16 to 24-year-olds were in the category – more than at any point since 2005.

Iain Wright, the Schools Minister, said: "We are giving all 16 and 17-year-olds the opportunity to stay in education or training so they can gain the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive labour market.

"We must not repeat the mistakes that were made in recessions of the past and abandon a whole generation of young people. We recognise that we need to carry on helping young people through this tough economic climate."

He said the Government would offer every Neet 16 and 17-year-old a place on an “Entry to Employment” course in January.
