【导语】文字的阅读能力一定是要在听说的基础上才能发展的。英语是母语的孩子,开始启蒙阅读的时候,听说能力已经建立起来了。但我们的孩子不同,他们的英语听说和阅读可能是同步开始的,所以,我们一定要允许孩子有一个相当长的沉默期,只是听、不用说、不用读,更不用写,这才是正常的启蒙路径。

很多家长习惯于在早上起床的时候、吃饭的时候或者上学的路上抓紧时间让孩子听英语故事,但担心孩子是否听进去了。要说效果,这样听肯定不如让孩子拿着一本书对照着听。不过,也不是说这样听完全没有用。如果不反复听,孩子的韵律感可能培养起来了,但不能指望他们能够记住多少;而如果反复听同一个故事,孩子们有可能就学会了。

英语阅读要读出声来吗?

开始阶段一定要。

对于启蒙阅读阶段的孩子来说,阅读的时候念出声来是非常重要的,而且要力保读出来的时候发音准确。

这里的发音不仅仅是指单个音素,也包括单词的发音、还有词与词之间的发音以及句子、段落和篇章的音调。发音之所以重要,在于:

第一,这是学术界在比较孩子和大人学外语优劣时达成的共识,孩子在语音学习能力上胜过大人,所以一定要用好,不然多可惜;

第二,语音与听力紧密相关,发音准意味着辨音准,说明孩子的听力好;

第三,语音与口语密切相关,说出来的英语准确、优美,别人能听懂,会给孩子带来自信;

第四,语音与阅读密切相关,语音其实是阅读解码的组成部分,我们可以试一试在阅读一段中文文字时,即使是默读,我们脑子里还是有这些文字的音出现,英文也是如此,如果没有音,就会影响解码的速度和理解;

第五,语音和写作密切相关,英文是拼音文字,发音准确是拼写准确的前提,同时语音会给写作带来流畅语感。此外,语音标准是一个孩子受过良好教育的表现。

如果父母的英语发音不标准,不要给孩子读,而是购买有音频、视频支持的读物,和孩子一起听、一起模仿、一起学。

我们在这里讨论的阅读都是指读出声来的阅读,而不是默读。读出来并读准确是第一位的。我们先来分享一下一个简单的例子:

一天,朋友夫妇带着他们5 岁的女儿来咨询,女儿已经上了半年英语培训班,开始显露厌学情绪,夫妇两人甚是着急。

首先我们想先了解一下孩子目前的水平,于是顺手抄起桌上《丽声拼读故事会》第一级的六本书,让孩子选一本读。孩子害羞,半天不做决定,我就把《萨姆的罐子》(Sam’s Pot)挑了出来。这个故事是练习英文字母?o?在单词中的读音的,对孩子来说,这本书全是生词,但是她一点一点地跟着我念,自己琢磨出了规律,最后一句话?Tom got a mop!?(汤姆拿了个拖把!)竟然完全自己念出来了,她爸爸妈妈都不敢相信。

在向妈妈了解孩子这半年上了什么英语课程时,我们看到孩子悄悄地把六本书拿到爸爸身边,一本一本地和爸爸一起念,不时地哈哈大笑,尤其是《天下第一猫》(Top Cat )和《挖,挖,挖》(Dig,Dig, Dig )。

朋友夫妇当场就把这套书要走了,而且还去外研书店买了配套的点读笔。对他们来说,虽然并不能像我们这些英语老师一样在孩子英语启蒙阶段对拼读的重要性有学术和实践两个层面的深刻体会,但是孩子对读本感兴趣就已经解决了他们的大问题。如果孩子愿意学,有什么学不会的呢?

英语是拼音文字,读和写这两项技能对拼读能力的依赖性非常高,我们发现,掌握了这两项技能的孩子不仅在英语听说上能够做到抓音准、说得好、进步快,而且在拼写方面也会有突出表现。可以说拼读是英语学习的起点,而4 ~ 8 岁是学习拼读的最佳时间。但是,如果我们采取传统的归纳方法总结拼读规律并通过反复练习的方式教拼读,对于这个年龄段的孩子来说,不仅违背了他们的认知规律,而且缺乏乐趣,容易让孩子从一开始就对英语学习产生反感。

孩子发音好坏和阅读能力有关吗?孩子的语音语调和自然拼读能力对阅读

能力有着直接的影响。我们可以做一个测试,请默读下面这段文字:?阅读需要‘语音激活’。读者辨别单词的读音是理解阅读内容过程的组成部分。?

我们是否发现即使是默读这段文字,我们脑海里也有这些字的发音掠过。如果我们不知道这些字的发音,一定会影响我们的阅读速度和理解程度。因此,孩子的英语语音语调和自然拼读能力对其阅读能力有着直接的影响,它不是可有可无的,而是阅读过程的组成部分。

所以,从听说开始阅读,而且开始阅读的时候一定要读出声来,就是为了让孩子脑子里形成对单词读音条件反射式的解读。有了这样的基础,阅读才能快、才能准。

跟读是孩子在阅读启蒙中听故事的量达到一定程度后的必经阶段,一定要读出声来。还有一个要求:不是说把句子准确地读下来就行了,而是要求孩子的语音语调(抑扬顿挫)以及语速和原音保持一致。在这个过程中,6岁以下的孩子会常出现个别音听不到、发不出来,或者发不准的问题,这些我们可以指出来,但也不必太纠结,因为随着孩子的成长,这些都会自然解决。我们最需要关注的是孩子对整个句子的韵律要模仿得像,比如重音、弱读、连读、升调、降调,这些准了,个别音素发不准不影响大局。如果每个音素都发得准,但韵律不对,跟读就白跟了。
