请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题纸卡上将该

项涂黑。

People in developed countries are increasingly suffering from illnesses resulting from overeating. While starvation and hunger are still big problems in many poor countries in the world, more than 25 percent of the population in America and other western countries are obese. This doesn’t just mean you are a little bit fat. It means you are more than 20 kilos overweight.

Dr. John Colon from Ohio State University says the problem is only going to get worse.”As more women have gone out to work, you find that parents in general have less time to spend on preparing food. That’s not just cooking, but also planning what to eat, doing the shopping and buying the fresh food. Families, therefore, increasingly rely on ready-made and frozen meals, which tends to be high in fat and contain a lot of additives(materials added to food to improve

its taste) and sugar. The other thing is that parents seem to feel guilty about not spending so much time with their kids, so they tend to give more quickly to children’s deman ds for things like sweets and chocolate.”

Ben Brown. who is a British Member of Parliament, blames the big food companies. He wants

to ban any food advertising that is aimed at children. "The problem is that these companies spend millions of pounds selling food to children. It's all crisps (薯片) in the shape of dinosaurs and chocolate in the shape of Mickey Mouse. I mean___36___what's going to be more fun to an sight-year-old ---an ice cream with a free toy or an apple?"

One food company thinks it has an answer to this: it has invented cheese-flavored cabbage

and chocolate-flavored carrots. It developed the "Whacky Veg" with money donated by a cancer research charity, which found that a diet containing lots of fruit and vegetables helps reduce cancer. However, today’s sweet-toothed kids need to be bribed(贿赂)into a healthy diet, and will only cat their greens if they taste different.

36. The underlined word "obese" in Paragraph 1 probably means____.

A. Fit

B. slim

C. overweight

D. unhealthy

37. What can we infer from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3?

A. Food companies sell too much food to children.

B. Food advertising is responsible for the overeating problem of children.

C. An eight-year-old boy prefers an ice cream to a free toy.

D. Children like crisps in the shape of dinosaurs and chocolate in the shape of Mickey Mouse.

38. In order to solve the overeating problem,___ .

A. parents should bribe their children

B. green food should be invented for the children

C. parents should force their children to eat more vegetables and fruit

D. food companies should invent healthy food with special taste

39. What does the passage intend to tell us?

A. To warn us of the danger of overeating.

B. To tell us that most people in developed countries are overweight.

C. To show us that food companies are responsible for the overeating problem.

D. To report the overeating problem in developed countries and its possible causes and solutions. 【答案】36. C 37. B 38. D 39. D

Teenagers in America know that they’ll possibly need technical skills to find good jobs, but a new survey reveals that interest in technology-related careers may be decreasing.

The percentage of boys aged 13 to 17 who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math ---or STEM ---careers dropped from 36 percent in 2017 to 24 percent this year, according

to a survey by Junior Achievement USA. The amount of girls interested in STEM careers stayed unchanged at II percent.

But the 1, 000 survey participants still named technology as one of two key skills that will

be necessary to prepare them for their future careers.

"Kids don' t understand how technology can be applied to careers in addition to computers, and maybe robotics, "said Tammera L. Holmes, president of aviation consulting firm AeroStar Consulting(航空资询公司).“That’s all they know,so they can’t really translate that interest to career pathways. "

When Holmes was in high school, her mom sent her to an event that featured (以为专题 )the pilots from World War II. One of the pilots took her for a ride and let her take the wheel. immediately that was the career for me. " she said.

Women remain outnumbered(超过) by men in fields like technology. For people working to increase the number of women in these areas, the lack of growth in girls interest in STEM careers is concerning.

Teenage girls are more interested than their male classmates in running after careers in which they can help others, said Ed Grocholski from Junior Achievement. Even with all the programs aimed at increasing girls' interest in STEM, "I don’t think we really talk that much about how we improve people’s lives through STEM, " Grocholski said.

Society needs to do better at making those connections for kids, said Katherine Latham, founder of an engineering firm. She used civil engineering as an example of a career that will continue to be important.

However, the fact that students know they will need tech skills in their future careers is encouraging.

The second skill they said they need is relationship-building.

"That's going to be the new type of engineers, " Latham said.

40. What is the passage mainly about?

A. Some successful of kids searching tech careers.

B. Reasons behind teenagers decreasing interest in tech careers.

C. The difference in choice of jobs between boys and girls in America.

D. The popularity of tech careers among kids and its reasons.

41. What is the reason behind kid’s losing interest in tech careers?

A. They see tech careers as boring.

B. They find tech skills less important than before.

C. They don' t think tech careers can bring rewards

D. They can’t connect their tech interest with future careers.

42. What can we learn from Grocholski's words?

A. STEM careers have nothing to do with people' s lives.

B. Teenage girls are interested in running after STEM careers.

C. The relationship between STEM careers and the improvement of people’s lives isn’t explained enough.

D. Teenagers don' t know how to improve people’s lives through STEM.

43. What aroused Holmes’ interest in her career?

A. A summer camp for pilots.

B. Her parents' wish for her.

C. A report about the life of pilots

D. Her flight experience with a pilot.

44. According to Grocholski, teenage girls are more interested in careers that____.

A. can make them look attractive

B. can make friends with other people

C. can make people’s lives better

D. are different from those of their parents

【答案】40. B 41. D 42. C 43. D 44. C

When I was eight, I got my first pair of glasses. Far from being made fun of at school, the only struggle I got was endless requests to try on my new glasses. Hearing about what happened at school, my father once looked at me and asked whether I had pretended to be the blindness just to look like Harry Potter?

With my strange hair and glasses, I did nothing to avoid it, either. The Harry Potter books were the great pop cultural event of my generation, who began reading again. My school librarian, both confused and annoyed by us Potter fans, dealt with fights over the schools few old copies by setting a new rule: Harry Potter could be borrowed for only three days, instead of the whole week of borrowing period every other title was allowed.

In the 20 years since the first book arrived on shelves, publishers and parents have been asking what has made J.K. Rowling's books so loved. It is better to look at the influence they have had on their readers. Yes, the books were about a boy taking on a dark and powerful enemy

in the magical world, but they were also about love defeating hate, determination and choosing" between what is easy and what is right". Rowling’s entire magical characters were all people we want to be.

I grew up with Harry and together we became children with our own opinions, teens easy to get angry and young adults thinking of everything as normal. When the final book came out in 2007.I read it for 12 hours without a break and cried as I finished it. I felt something sad: the end of Harry’s story signaled the end of my childhood. I was suddenly aimless. Meanwhile, my now Potter-mad father walked impatiently nearby, waiting for the proper moment to take the book away from his daughter.

Harry Potter did shape my generation. As a girl who grew up mostly in peacetime, many of the ideas I found in these books were ones we had never come across before. The magical world’s terrible treatment of non-human beings was the first description of slavery I knew. The treatment of Harry’s teacher Remus Lupin, who hides his condition at work, is a metaphor(比喻) for the shame surrounding those who suffer from AIDS. And all settings like this may have real-world reflections .A study found that teenage Harry Potter readers showed more tolerance (包容) towards those who were suffering. Is it possible that Jeremy Corbyn's popularity among the young had anything to do with their literary education? Is it possible that Harry Potter, in the 20 years he has been with us, has inspired a generation to be more empathetic(感同身受), welcoming and socially open- minded than those before it? We will see If not, at least my glasses are still cool.

45. Paragraph 1 is intended to show_____.

A. the authors sufferings caused by the glasses

B. the author s close relations with other students

C. the misunderstanding between the author and her father

D. the popularity of Harry Porter among students

46. How did the school librarian stop the fights between Potter fans?

A. By preventing Potter fans borrowing Harry Potter many times

B. By selling the Harry Porter books in the library.

C. By creating a new rule for Harry Potter’s borrowing period.

D. By buying more Harry Potter books for the library.

47. What can we learn about the Harry Potter books from Paragraph 3?

A. The book has been the most popular one among all the books for twenty years.

B. It is the story of revenge(复仇)in the magical world that makes the book popular.

C. Readers are crazy about the book because it has taught them how to love and make wise choices.

D. The book has had such great influence on the readers that they all want to be magical persons.

48. Why did the author cry when she read Harry Potter that came out in 2007?

A. Because she suddenly found that she was too old to read Harry Potter.

B. Because her father was for a chance to take her book away.

C. Because she had no plan for what to do after her childhood ended.

D. Because she was too sad to know the 2007 book was the last Harry Potter book.

49. The underlined word "signaled "in Paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to _____.

A. described

B. created

C. changed

D. marked

50. What's the last paragraph mainly about?

A. Harry Potter has great effects on the author's generation.

七、任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在文后第91至100小题的空格里填上适当的单词,注意每空1个单词。

Many of us have someone in our lives that has absolutely everything. Buying a gift for that special person can prove quite stressful. Here are a few points aimed at making this challenge a little bit easier.

Buying that hard-to-find gift can have you wandering the malls for hours on end with little or no luck. Before starting such a shopping journey, think carefully about what that person might really enjoy instead of hoping the perfect gift will miraculously(奇迹般地 ) appear. Think about what is happening in their lives at the moment Have they recently experienced a major life event. taken up a new hobby, or planned a trip? Think about how your gin can contribute to a these events.

Have you ever found that perfect Christmas gift for someone in July, but decided to waif and buy it later? If you think it's a good gift, buy it then. Don’t wait until the last minute to buy that perfect present. Chances are that you'll either forget what that gift was or it won’t be available when you go to get it later. Last-minute shopping is rather stressful and usually doesn’t have the desired results.

Anything you can buy at a retail store these days can also be bought on the Internet. Better still, you can find special gifts that you normally cant find at the mall. Search for special gift ideas and you'll be amazed at the things that you may never have thought of before. For example, find out what their favorite toy or book was when they were a child and see if you can find it for sale on an auction site(拍卖现场).

Spend some time with the person and get a better idea of their interests. They may mention that they've needed something for the moment but just haven't got around to getting it. Or maybe they've lost or broken something that they really miss. Maybe they're still using something from the past that needs updating.

If all else fails, there are always gift cards. Rather than just give the gift card, however, be a little creative. Make a game out of it such as wrapping the card in a series of larger boxes so it takes a while to get to it rather than just having them open an envelope. Another choice is to include a gift card with some theatre tickets.

【答案】With the improvement of living standards, overseas study tours are gaining its popularity with some high school students.

Some students think that overseas study tours can allow them to be exposed to different cultures, thus broadening their horizons, Besides, students' language proficiency can be improved while studying in foreign countries. Moreover, they can learn to live independently, which is beneficial to their future life.

However, others object to overseas study tours Firstly. the tours cost too much, which adds the financial burden of the families Secondly. winter or summer vocations are too short for students to learn systematically. Worse still. instead of studying in class, students tend to spend too much time travelling.

From my perspective, overseas study tours can be rewarding and enjoyable if students can really study in western schools and the family can provide enough financial support. 高一英语上学期阅读理解11篇(一)

高一英语上学期阅读理解11篇(一) 一 As a student, you must be excited to know something about American school students. In fact, just like in China, in the United States, high school is usually divided into two periods, the first two or three years are called “junior high school” and the other is “senior high school”. In China, children enjoy free education of nine years, but in the United States, the students enjoy free education until they are 18 years old. As a result of the free education system (制度), American children have little difficulty in going to senior high school. American high school students can take part in a lot of activities outside of the classroom. The activities are organized by the school, such as joining a music group or a sports team. Certainly, just like us students in China, American students have to work hard in order to get good marks if they want to go to a good university. They take classes in all kinds of subjects all through the high school period. And those who come out with low marks at the end of a school year and whoshould repeat a grade are often allowed to go on to the next grade. In American high schools, there is fighting or hurting or other kinds of bad behaviors. So children who want to go to university are often sent to suburban (郊区的) high schools, where most students want to go to university and the atmosphere (氛围) is quite different. 1. Activities outside of the classroom refer to _____. A. what the students do after class in school B. what the students learn in extra classes C. what a music group or a sports team do D. what the teachers do after class for the students 2. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. The time of free education in China is longer than that in America. B. Those who get good marks can go to a good university. C. The writer of the passage tells us the truth that ____. A. the atmosphere in high schools is quite different from that in a university B. none of the schools in cities are good for learning C. suburban high schools are good places for learning D. all the American students want to go to university 二 Americans can travel almost anywhere they choose. But to protect its people, the government lists a few dangerous places where Americans cannot go. These places are unfriendly countries or countries at war. There, the traveller might not be safe. These countries are listed in a small book called a passport. This passport is a government request(要求) for the safety of its travelling people. It is also a government' s pledge (保证) that the people will obey the rules of the host country. To receive a passport from the government, a traveller must prove(证明) that he is an American citizen. An American can not go abroad without a passport. Only some close countries such as Canada and Mexico do not ask for passports. Inside the passport is the traveller's picture. Children travelling with their parents are included(包含) in one parent's book. Thousands of people from the United States visit other countries every year. An American traveller might carry plane tickets, money, clothing and many other things, but the most important that he carries in another country is his passport. 1. A passport is not needed when an American goes to .
