Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on the picture below. You should start your essay with a brief account of the impact of the Internet on the way people communicate and then explain whether electronic communication can replace face-to-face contact. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

“Dear Andy-How are you? Your mother and I are fine. We both miss you and hope you are doing well. We look forward to seeing you again the next time your computer

crashes and you come down-stairs for something to eat, Love, Mom and Dad.”实:保证沟通信息清晰,完整,避免误解,更加正式

The (more formal) face-to-face contact can ensure/guarantee the message (being delivered)clearer and more intact, thus avoiding misunderstanding (effectively=in such an effective way/ to a great extent. )

So…that…

The message/information delivered through internet is very likely to be neglected.

It is more likely for us to neglect the message on the internet or dismiss it as rumors.

Electronic Communication Cannot

Replace Face-to-Face Contact

The picture above is a vivid description of a phenomenon that communication between teenagers and their parents is usually through the Internet. Although the Internet has changed the ways of communication, I do not think that electronic communication can replace face-to-face contact.

Firstly, face-to-face contact is much better than electronic communication in terms of enhancing parent-child relationship, for the former can better guarantee honesty of the communication. Secondly, face-to-face contact can make people concentrate on what they are talking about/(attach importance to the message being talked about), so people can think the problems seriously. Last but not least, face-to-face contact can eliminate distrust between parents and children because both sides will not be

suspicious about the other’s intention if they can talk with each other in such a direct way.

To sum up, the Internet has greatly influenced the ways of communication, but it can never replace face-to-face contact.

The Impact of the Internet on the Way

People Communicate

Internet does exert such a profound effect on our life that it revolutionizes the way of people’s living and thinking. As is subtly(subtle adj.) revealed in the portrayal(portray v. portrait n.),there are two parents sitting in the front of computer, who are chatting with their child on the internet. What a meaningful picture!

As is shown/revealed/depicted/described in the picture…

From my perspective, the electronic contact cannot replace face to face communication owing to the following factors. To begin with, over-reliance on electronic contact will damage the interpersonal relationship, for the cold machine never replaces a warm-hearted greeting face to face. For example, the aged parents would like their only son who works far away home to come back home more often rather than to talk with him on the internet occasionally. What’s more, face to face communication is preferable because it is beneficial to build a harmonious society, for it attaches more importance to human affection and feelings instead of convenience(convenient adj.) and speed.

Hence, it is necessary for us to use Internet in a reasonable way. After all, Internet is invented to connect you and me, and to bring conveniences to our life rather than set a barrier to keep people beyond reach. If we want to keep our interpersonal relationship more effectively, we should spend more time with them face to face in real life. Only in this way can we not only make full use of the communication tool on the net but also make our relationship tighter.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay based on the picture below. You should start your essay with a brief account of the impact of the Internet on learning and then explain why education doesn’t simply mean learning to obtain information. You should write at least

120 words but no more than 180 words.

“Once I learn how to use Google, isn’t that all the education I really need?”

2.No. Then what does education

include?

实:

With the advancement of technology, (nowadays), the Internet does exert profound effect on learning. However, education by no means/never simply indicates/implies/means

getting/acquiring information. It also

contains something significant.

范文1(星火)

The Impact of the Internet on Learning Internet has exerted great influence on learning, so much so that an increasing number of individuals contend that acquiring information means education. However, as the picture warns us, education involves much more than simply learning to obtain information.

写长句子:

1 加定语

2 加状语(加原因,加结果)

From my perspective, education involves critical thinking and practical skills rather than a mere accumulation (accumulate v.)of information. On the one hand, critical thinking is essential to scientific progress, contributing to/leading to/resulting in 动词分词做状语

innovation and technical advancement,(+名人名言拓展句) just as Confucius put it, “learning without thinking leads to confusion.” On the other hand, it is crucial to apply what you have learned into practice and that’s the very reason why outstanding scientists accomplish great achievements/ achieve their dreams/ reach their full potential in their profession.

Last but not least, education also includes/involves/consists of acquiring learning method, which can equip us with new knowledge effectively and efficiently in such a society that changes with the passage of time.(in such a competitive society./in such a fierce competition.)…thus giving us an apparent advantage over others/our peers.

In a word, the Internet does provide valuable information for learners, but

people should be fully aware of the essence (essential adj.) of education and attach importance to cultivating the ability of independent thinking instead of just relying on the Internet. Thus, only by emphasizing innovation can education be completely fulfilled in practice.

On the Overuse of Mobile Phone

As is shown in the above picture, having a mobile phone in hand and at the ready is the default mode of many people walking on the streets. What this cartoon symbolically reveals is that

people nowadays, especially young people, are growing increasingly dependent on their mobile phones.

Dependence/reliance on

Depend on/rely on

好处时第一个构思就应该是bring about great convenience/

Convenient indeed/admittedly it is quite/most=very convenient to communicate with mobile phones

It is bad for us/our health to use mobile phone excessively.

Over-reliance on mobile phones will inevitably result in many health problems.

Drug addict/TV addict/mobile addict

Be addicted to

If we Indulge ourselves in mobile phones, they will distract us from something really vital for us/of great value.

It is true that mobile phone has brought about great convenience to people’s life. However, just as is illustrated in the picture, the overuse=excessive use of it may lead to several bad consequences. To begin with(1), there is evidence that long-term exposure to electromagnetic radiation (emitted from mobile) may trigger many health problems, such as (sleeplessness)insomnia, headaches and even cancer. In addition(2), when people immense themselves in the use of mobile phone, they tend to pay less attention to the surroundings, pos ing a n immediate threat to their life, health and property. Last but not least(3), excessive use of mobile phone means much less chance of face-to-face interactions with the people who populate their real lives.

In conclusion, while mobile phones

have contributed a lot to making our life more convenient, we should use them appropriately and rationally.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay. You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then express your views on the importance of learning basic skills. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words. Write your essay on Answer Sheet 1.

On The Importance Learning Basic Skills As is described in the picture, a teacher is teaching multiplication. However, one of her students holds the opinion that these basic skills might be outdated by the time they’re in the job market. Nowadays, more and more students tend to believe it is unnecessary to learn basic skills.

In my mind, it is important for us to learn basic skills mainly for two reasons. For one thing, mastering the basic skills can not only help us acquire

advanced skills but also cultivate our characters. As the famous British philosopher Francis Bacon said,"Histories make men wise ;poems witty;the mathematics subtle;natural philosophy deep;moral grave ;logic and rhetoric abled to contend."For another ,the basic skills will never be out of date and they are very practical in our daily life and work. We need to excel in arithmetic to calculate our household expenses as well as to draw up financial plans.

In short, the basic skills are essential for our success .The more basic skills we master, the more likely we are to find a satisfactory job.

You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then express your views on the importance of reading literature. You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.

On The Importance of Reading Literature As is vividly depicted in the picture above, a teacher asks her student to read a piece of literature and tells her just to think of it as if she is reading a long

text-message. Nonetheless, fewer people are willing to sit down and enjoy a good literary work.

(In spite of our quick pace of life, it is still rewarding to…)

We can never exaggerate the importance of …

The concept of literature may seem to be very old, but its importance has not faded .We can benefit a lot from reading literature. To begin with, it brings us

a wide range of intellectual benefits,

such as expanding vocabulary and developing new ideas.

Furthermore, it broadens our horizons.

Reading literature helps us understand the everyday life and historical events described in the books, which are quiet different from those of our time.

Lastly, it entertains us. Although with the advent of television, people have lost their interest in reading

literature to some extent, they can still get to know the classics via films or TV series, that are derived from them.

In conclusion, literature is not something to be tossed away. Reading literature can be enriching and eye-opening experience.
