Ⅷ. Course description

Topics covered in this course include characterization and determination of common ions, determination of chemical equilibrium constants, preparation of inorganic compounds and complexes, treatment and analysis of inorganic wastewater as well as quantitative analysis of real samples of inorganics. Through this course, the students should understand the fundamentals of compound synthesis and chemical analysis, be proficient in the general operations for compound synthesis and chemical analysis, establish the concept of “quantity”, understand the concepts of experimental error and stoichiometry as well.

1. Course Objectives

The program is to prepare students to master theory and technology of inorganic chemistry, especial in the skills of experiment of inorganic chemistry, and equip them with basic knowledge including the property of common elements, preparation, separation and purification of inorganics. The program prepares students for ability of scientific thinking and research skills。

The teaching of Fundamental Chemistry Experiment (1-I) is divided into three phases: previewing, conducting and reporting. Firstly, students should pay attention to previewing to make themselves own a preliminary understanding and a grasp process. Secondly, in class, students must conduct experiments with instructor’s assist and discussion. Finally, students must do corresponding report.
