Part C Retelling

Part A Reading Aloud

Illustrated books set out to provide a fuller reading experience. What a picture adds to a story, and what the words leave out, is key. But how exactly does that relationship work? Although there were illustrated books for adults, by far the majority were for children. One stands out above all others –Alice in Wonderland. Words and pictures created a handshake on the page far greater than the sum of the parts. And while the audience is now mostly young children, the combination of artist and writer is alive and well. The best illustrated books form an inseparable, timeless bond that endure long after our childhoods.

Part B Role Play

任务:(1)向外教Mary咨询英国生活事宜;

M:Hello, Mary. How are you?

W: Very well, and you?

M:Fine, thanks. I haven’t seen you for ages. Where have you been?

W: I’ve just come back from England. I’ve been on holiday for two months.

M:Have you started working again yet?

W: Yes. The new term began last Monday. I heard you were going to study in Britain.

When are you leaving?

M:In a month. And that’s just what I wanted to talk to you about. What should I take with me?

W: How long are you going for?

M:Two years.

W: Oh well, in that case you’ll need to take clothes for every season. Temperatures in England are not extreme. Our winter is not as cold as Beijing’s, but it’s very rainy.

You’ll need several sweaters, an overcoat, a rain-coat and, of course, an umbrella. M:

W: Well, I think one warm suit and one light suit will be necessary. As a student you need to get dressed up sometimes.

W: Anything that is typically Chinese. But since you can take no more than 20 kilos of luggage, it’s best to buy things that don’t weigh too much. Things like silk ties and paper-cuts are light, and they make lovely presents.

W: Well, most people just take a bottle of wine. But if you want to be very polite, you could take something for the hostess—like a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates.

I Have Bought the Cards

It was two weeks before Teacher s’Day. Tom’s mother was very busy. But she didn’t forget to buy cards to send to her son's teachers. She put the cards on the table in the living-room. She was so busy that she did not have time to write them.

When Tom came home from school, she said to him, "Here are the cards for your teachers, and here are some stamps, a pen and our book of addresses. Can you write the cards while I am cooking the dinner?" Tom did not say anything, but walked out of the living-room and went into his study. Tom’s mother was a little angry, but did not say anything either. She knew that her son was a quiet boy. She was just thinking how to teach Tom to be grateful and make him write the cards.

A moment later, Tom came back with a box full of cards. All of them had addresses and stamps on them. Tom’s mother was very surprised and asked ―Oh, what are these?‖―Mom,‖ Tom answered, ―I’ve already bought the cards and written all of them‖.
