T his year’s flu season is pretty scary. To try to minimize the effects, public officials are still urging anyone who hasn’t yet gotten their flu shot to get one as soon as possible. However, even if every single person got a shot in the arm, the vaccine(疫苗)--- with its excellent 36 percent effectiveness---would not prevent everyone from getting infected with the annoying virus. Knowledge is power, so here's what goes on in your body when you come down with the flu.

The influenza virus primarily attacks your nose, throat, and the tubes that lead to your lungs. But the flu is so much more than that. Your muscles ache, your head hurts, and your appetite goes down, among other things. To our surprise, almost all of these symptoms have less to do with the virus itself than with your immune(免疫的)response to them. Unfortunately, the very defense you have in place to ge rid of the flu is the reason you feel so painful when you recover.

The virus usually enters through your mouth, typically by way of your hands But it takes a few days for symptoms to set in. While this process might cause some harm to your nose and throat, it's nothing major, and nothing like the symptoms that typically accompany a bad or even mild case of the flu.

The real fun starts when your immune system begins to fight. Your immune system comes in two parts: the innate system and the adaptive. The innate immune system is essentially an all-purpose tool. As soon as your body senses the presence of any injury or invader (入侵者), the innate immune system launches into action by producing tiny proteins called cytokines and chemokines. The cytokines reproduce almost immediately and start to attack the virus. This increase in immune cells creates an serious inflammation(炎症) throughout the body. But the worst is still to come. Meanwhile, the chemokines work with the adaptive immune system to help create T cells. These cells are a special type of white blood cell that works in a much more specific way: They find the influenza virus, identify what's special about it, and create something unique on their surface that finds and destroys similar invaders.

28. What can we infer from Paragraph 1?

A. All the vaccine is not effective.

B. No one can avoid catching this year's flu.

C. This year's flu is the most serious one in recent years.

D. Public health officials have to use a gun when necessary.

29. Why many parts of your body suffer while you're recovering from a flu?

A. Because recovery from illness is painful.

B. Because your immune system is working against your defense system.

C. Because your body is fighting hard against the flu.

D. Because the influenza virus attacks your nose, throat and other parts.

30. The underlined word “fun” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by .

A. joy

B. battle

C. action

D. program

31. What's the main idea of Paragraph 4?

A. The fight between innate immune system and the adaptive.

B. The categories of immune system.

C. The way immune system works.

D. The process of the development of immune system.

For Pei Shiyou, this year's Lunar New year's Eve was among the few he ha spent with his extended family.

Starting a business with a creative research team and receiving government support have given him a strong sense of pride, a feeling he says he often lacked during his 25 years working in the United States, he said.

He returned to China in 2017, and nine years later established a smart-glass company in Hefei

with two other US-trained engineers.

The company’s product is suitable for low-temperature, flexible smart-film manufacturing and is able to self-adjust its level of transparency based on temperature changes and sunlight conditions, according to Pei, who said it has the potential to reduce the need for air conditioning and make curtains abandoned.

Between 2007 and 2016, Pei lived and worked in several Chinese cities. “What attracts me to Hefei is that it is easy to gather tech talents here due to the city’s rapid development in recent years, and also because it has several universities,” he said. Support from the local government has been one of the best attractions that convinced Pei to locate his company in the eastern Chinese city.

In January last year, Hefei was approved as the site of a national-level science center, the second of its kind after an earlier one was built in Shanghai. The center, now under construction, will focus on areas including information technology, energy and health.

e.g. 22, Peter _____ be really difficult at times even though he’s a nice person in general. A, shall B. should C. can D. must 答案: C 这是一个情态动词的考查。近几年高考,考查情态动词侧重在表示推测的用法及情态动词+ have done , (2007 辽宁) ―― Turn off the TV, Jack.____ your homework now?

―― Mum, just ten more minutes, please. A. should you be doing B. Shouldn’t you be doing C. couldn't you be doing D. will you be doing 答案:B 23 We first met on a train in 2000. We both felt immediately that we _______ each other for years. A. knew B. have known C. had known D. known 答案:C 29.―― Have you got any job offers? ―― No, I ______. A. waited B. had been waiting C. have waited D. am waiting 答案:D 31. Please remain ____; the winner of the prize will be announced soon. A. seating B. seated C. to seat D, to be seated

A A new study shows students who write notes by hand during lectures perform better on exams than those who use laptops. Students are increasingly using laptops for note-taking because of speed and legibility. But the research has found laptop users are less able to remember and apply the concepts they have been taught. Researchers performed experiments that aimed to find out whether using a laptop increased th e tendency to make notes ”mindlessly” by taking down word for word what the professors said. In the first experiment, students were given either a laptop or pen and paper. They listened to the same lectures and were examined on their ability and to remember facts and on how well they understood concept. The researchers found that laptop users took twice as many notes as those wrote by hand. However, the type is performed worse at remembering and applying the concepts. Both groups scored similarly when it comes to memorizing facts. The researchers’ report said, “ While more notes are beneficial, if the notes are taken mindlessly, as is more likely the case on a laptop, the benefit disappears. In another experiment aimed at testing long-term memory, students took notes as before but were tested a week after the lecture. This time, the students who wrote notes by hand performed significantly better on the exam. These two experiments suggest that handwritten notes are not only better for immediate learning and understanding, but that they also lead to superior revision in the future. 21. More and more students favor laptops for note-taking because they can___. A write more notes B digest concepts better C get higher scores D understand lectures better 22. While taking notes, laptops users tend to be___. A skillful B mindless C thoughtful D tireless 23. The author of the passage aims to ___. A examine the importance of long-term memory B stress the benefit of taking notes by hand C explain the process of taking notes D promote the use of laptops. 24. The passage is likely to appear in ___. A a newspaper advertisement B a computer textbook C a science magazine D a finance report
