I have many hobbies, such as reading, skating, and watching TV. But reading is my favorite hobby.

I like reading for three reasons. First of all, books introduce me to a new world, which is colourful and without time and space limit, Through reading, I can trace back. to ancient Egypt, the cradle of human civilization. It can bring myself to the United states, a glamorous land I have been longing to visit. Secondly, reading can better myself by showing me a new horizon. In the past years, most of my knowledge has been obtained from books. I have learned from many people by reading about their ideas on scithee, politics, life and society. Thirdly, reading bridge the gap between my dream and my goal. In ordcr to succeed in my career in the future, I must keep reading, thinking and practising.

Reading has become part of my life. Every day, I spend some time reading books, newspapcrs and magazines. At night, I can hardly go to steep without a novel in my hand.

我有许多爱好，譬如：读书、滑冰、看电视，读书是我最喜欢的。

我喜爱读书有三个原因：首先，书籍带我进入一个新世界，这个世界五颜六色没有时空限制。通过读书，我可以追溯到占代埃及——这个人类文明的摇篮。书能把我带到美国，那个我一直想去游览的充满魅力的地方。其次，读书能够在我面前展现新的空间，使我完美。在过去的几年中，我的大多数知识都是通过书本获得的。通过阅读，我向许多人学习了他们在科学、政治、生活和社会等方面的思想。再次，读书在我的梦想和目标之间架起厂一座桥梁。为了在将来的工作生涯中获得成功，我要坚持读书、思维和实践。

读书已经成为我生活的一部分。每天我花一些时间读书看报，读杂志。晚上，没有一书在手我是很难入睡的。

Learning English and Learning About English?

We are learning English,not about English. A student can know all about English. And he may not be able to speak English.

The people who only learn about English take English as a subject. This is a mistake. Geography is no skill while English is.

You learn to swim by getting into water and swimming.You learn football by kicking a ball. We learn to speak English by speaking English. Let us do more speaking if we want to learn English well.

So you see there is a difference between “learning English and learning about English”. Now we want to learn English and we believe the best way to learn to speak English is by speaking.

McDonald’s

In 1955, a man named Raymond Kroc entered a partnership with two brothers named McDonald. They opened a popular restaurant in Califor-nia which sold food that was easy to

prepare and serve quickly. Hamburgers, French fries and cold drinks were the main food there. Kroc opened similar eating places under the same name,McDonald’s, and they were an inst ant success. He later took over the company, and today it is one of the most famous and successful “fast-food” restaurants in America and the world.

Why was his idea so successful? Probably the most important reason was that his timing was right. In the ]950s,most married women stayed home to keep house and take care of their children. In the 1960s, many women returned to the work place. This meant that they had less time and energy for housework and preparation of meals, so they depended more on “TV dinners” and fast-food restaurants. Single parents also have little time to spend in the kitchen. People living alone also depend on this type of food, since cooking for one is often more trouble than it is worth.

Fast-food is not part of all Americans lives. Another trend of the 1960s, sometimes called the back-to-nature movement,influenced many people to avoid food that was packaged and processed. This preference for natural food continues to this day. From the success of Raymond Kroc’s fast-food business,we can say that social and economic trends influence where and what we eat.

Mankind is feeling greater pressure from the expanding number of people. The area of the earth can never be expanded. Nor are there endless sources of food and clothing. Yet, the number of people is increasing be 80million each year. In the next fifty years, the world population may double. How can so many people be fed? What is worse, most likely, there will be a day when people can only have standing room.

Birth control is a basic policy in our country. China has the greatest number of population in the

world. Her level of per capita cultivated area ranks very low. With a high birth rate, the production of grain and other bare necessities will be unable to meet the needs of people. To raise people’s living standard, we must practice birth control.

There are disadvantages of a family having more children. First of all, as the parents have only limited income in general, they cannot give their children a good upbringing in food, clothing and shelter, let alone education. Secondly, child rearing will exhaust the parents, leaving them no burden of the society so far as social morality and juvenile delinquency are concerned.
