Good morning 或Good afternoon, my dear teachers and classmates,

I am Liang Haodong from Class 5 and glad to be here to have a speech. I observed various people on the way to school this morning. There were well-dressed uncle and aunts who were driving, tired aunts selling breakfast, and ragged beggars going through the crowd once in a while. Then I asked myself what kind of people I will become, successful or ordinary people? Of course I want to be successful people. But how will I become a respected and valuable people after tens over ten of years? The answer is self-management. Self-management is today’s speech subject.

We all know love playing is the nature of children but learning is also our duty. Then how should we deal with the conflicts and improve the self-management ability?

Firstly, we must have ownership thought, do as our own masters and recognize we are on our own way in study and life, not for parents and teachers.

I think self-management is also self regulation. It exists in every place in study and life.

For example, the constraints on behavior by teachers, group leaders and the students themselves all belong to self-management. If we went to a tourist attraction, saw a big stone, some students would be very excited and even have an idea to engrave a word ‘XXX visited here’. At this time you need self-management and remind yourself if you do that, it would destroy the attraction; also it is a performance of low quality. You can also imagine what you feel if others would write and draw in mess on your walls. Let’s put self-management in study. Self-management can help you to complete when you have feeling of being lazy, escaping and giving up. We need to make a time schedule for study, sports and play to achieve it. Are the top students smarter than us? The answer is no. As far as I know from the experience of the top students, the most important thing is self-management. Make a good plan and study hardly, and then you will get a good achievement.

In real life, many successful people tell us the importance of self-management. Ten years later I want to be an excellent people who will make more contributions for the country. Dear students, what kind of people you want to be? Now let’s focus on and implement self-management, and ten years later you will become the person that you want to be.

Thank you.

(1) Mass urbanization of the world’s population is an unprecedented trend worldwide. The most important reason why people are moving to cities is economic. People are moving to the cities because that’s where they can find jobs and earn money. Until the 20th century, the major source of employment, full and part-time, was farming. Now, according to recent statistics, no more than 15 percent of all jobs are connected to farming. Jobs now are being created in information technology, manufacturing and service areas, such as tourism and financing, and all of these new jobs are in or around major cities.

One day’s sick leave with the application, after approved by the departmental head, is to be submitted to the admin executive on the day following the one day’s sick leave. 9. Part II. Translate the following passages into Chinese. Passage 1 Savings provide one way to take care of financial losses. But savings are not the answer to large losses. The best way to guard against large financial losses is through insurance. Over 4,800 companies in the United States are in the business of providing insurance protection. These businesses are called insurance companies. Because most insurance companies operate on a big scale, they provide a way for large numbers of people to share their losses. Insurance can provide protection against almost any kind of loss. Singers may insure their voices. Photographers may insure their negatives. The owner of a home freezer may insure against food loss in case of a power failure. A business owner can insure his or her place of business. A business owner can also insure against a loss of profits during a shutdown following a fire or damaging accident. Like all private firms, insurance companies must charge enough for protection to pay their operating costs and make a profit. The main factor affecting the price of insurance, however, is the amount of risk involved. The more risk an insurance company assumes for a policyholder, the higher the premium. An insurance company must collect enough money from all its policyholders to pay the claims of those who have

For more than 30 years, I have been wondering about L.R. Generson. On one of our first Christmases together, my husband gave me a complete set of Dickens. There were 20 volumes, bound in gray cloth with black corners, old but in good condition. Stamped on the flyleaf of each volume, in faded block letters, was the name of the previous owner: L.R. Generson, M.D.,Bronx, NY. That Dickens set is one of the best presents anyone has ever given me. A couple of the books are still brand-new, but others - Bleak House, David Copperfield, and especially Great Expectations - have been read and re-read almost to pieces. Over the years, they have kept me company. And so, in his silent mysterious way, has L.R. Generson. Did he love the books as much as I do? Who was he? On a whim, I Googled him. There wasn’t much - a single mention on a veterans’website of a World War II named Leonard Generson. But I did find a Dr. Richard Generson, an oral surgeon living in New Jersey. Since Generson is not a common name, I decided to write to him. Dr. Generson was kind enough to write back. He told me that his father, Leonard Richard Generson, was born in 1909. He lived in New York City but went to medical school in Basel, Switzerland. He spoke 10 languages fluently. As anobstetrician and gynecologist, he opened a practice in the Bronx shortly before World War II. His son described him as “an extremely patriotic individual”; right after Pearl Harbor he closed

Praise and encouragement also makes employees more likely to work hard and stay in their jobs, saving on the cost of finding replacements. Part II Translate the following passages into Chinese. Passage 1 Most Americans believe someone isn’t grown up until age 26, probably with a completed education, a full-time job, a family to support and financial independence, a survey said. But they also believe that becoming an official grown-up is a process that takes five years from about the age of 20, concluded the report from the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center. The findings were based on a representative sample of 1398 people over age 18. The poll found the following ages at which people expect the transitions to grown-up status to be completed: age 20.9 self-supporting; 21.1 no longer living with parents; 21.2 full-time job; 22.3 education complete; 24.5 being able to support a family financially; 25.7 married; and 26.2 having a child. “There is a large degree of consensus across social groups on the relative importance of the seven transitions,” said Tom Smith, director of the survey. The only notable pattern of differences is on views about supporting a family, having a child and g etting married. “Older adults and the widowed and married rate these as more important than younger adults and the never-married do,” he added. “This probably reflects in large part a shift in values across generations away from traditional family values.” The most valued step toward reaching adulthood, the survey found, was completing an education, followed by full-time employment, supporting a family, financial independence, living independently of parents, marriage and parenthood.
