It can also help them to integrate both sides of the brain for more efficient learning and reduce errors. Playing an instrument is a great way to test out our creative thinking and push our brain to process information in a new way.

But I think that being a good parent is like being a good guidance counselor. We have to help them find from within what they like to do. If they are very young, you probably do need to nudge them, but not everyone has to be a musician. Parents should know how to be supportive of their kids. And parents should not be very critical and put much pressure on their children, but at the end of day it is the child’s decision I think.

If you were parent, would you make your child learn music? Why or why not?

Child Should Learn Music?

When it comes to children's education, most parents prefer to develop their capabilities in an early age, among them, learning music has gradually become the first choice to develop their musical talents. But still there are some debates about whether child should learn music.

Those who go against it believe that child shall have a happy childhood. In their mind, learning music in an early age will not do much benefit in their growth.Besides, learning music in an early age will make the child in a busy situation so that he has no time or no space to do what he wants to do,thus some natures of children may disappear, and this will be a pity for them.

However, there are still many people voting for it.Most parents hold that learning music can make their

c hildren smarter especially when the “Mozart Effect”was found.Besides, they think music has the ability to increase self-confidence an

d teach abstract idea, spatial awareness, rhythm, patterns. What’s th

e most important is that their children will behavior better and smarter than the same age i

f they have learned music in early age.

As far as I am concerned,I will first find out that whether my child is keenly interested or not.Standing on my standpoint,I will never force my child, because it is never a wise idea to force him to do anything he's not ready to do unless it's a matter of utmost importance.Nevertheless, I will guide him consciously to the music as learning music can benefit him in his whole life.At the same time I will let him know how to balance between learning music and developing other aspects.Only in this way may children lead a healthy childhood.

How important is IQ to a person? What do you think of EQ? Which is more important?

IQ is short for Intelligence quotient (系数)。It is a score to assess human intelligence. Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is a value that indicates a person's ability to learn, understand, and apply information and skills in a meaningful way. A high IQ is important to a person. Persons with a high IQ have a better chance of being successful at school and professionally. For example, if one children with a high IQ, when he study at school, he will learn Knowledge quicker than others and have more spare time to do something what he is interested in. And his life will be more rich and colorful 。

Emotional Quotient (EQ) is a way to measure how a person recognizes emotions in himself or herself and others, and manages these emotional states to work better as a group or team. People with high EQ can often better recognize and control their own emotions, and recognize emotional states in others to adjust their

behavior accordingly. Your emotional intelligence are important to the success you will achieve in life. If you have a High EQ, you can have good relationships with others and you can work easily. And what sets people apart now are their abilities to manage themselves and develop productive relationships with others. Unlike IQ, which is pretty much established at birth, EQ can be learned, implemented and improved upon at any age. Nowadays there are many people focusing on the debate which is important between EQ and IQ. In my opinion, I think EQ is more important. IQ defines how smart we are, while EQ defines how well we use the smartness we have. And I think IQ only accounts for 20% of our success in life. The emotional intelligence are more important to the success you will achieve in life. If you have a High EQ, you can have good relationships with others and you can work easily. And what sets people apart now are their abilities to manage themselves and develop productive relationships with others. And Unlike IQ, which is pretty much established at birth, EQ can be learned, implemented and improved upon at any age.

Pair work:

3.Where you listen to music?

I often listen to music by music player or on the internet, and my favorite music application on my phone is Netease Music. I strongly recommend that you have a try, and I promise that you will like it.

4.What can you benefit from music?

I think music can make me smarter and healthier. For example, when I am terribly upset, listening to some peaceful music can calm me down and help me to concentrate on my own things; when I am in low spirits, rock music can makes me full of energy. Lying on the bed, I would like to listen to some soft music, which can helps me to have a good sleep, thus do much good to my health.

Group work:

4. Listening to individual pieces again and again is the basic activity that leads to the understanding and love of music?

No, I don’t agree with this o pinion. Only after you have listen a lot of music, you know what kind of music you like, then you are willing to know more about those music that you are interested in. If you don’t like it, it will be boring to listen to individual pieces again and again. Besides, the understanding of music calls for some professional knowdege, for example, you need to know something about the instrument, background of the creation, and so on.

5. To regard music and value it only as an entertainment is to miss what is most important about it?

Well, it depends. If you are someone who wants to be a musician in the future, of course you need to regard it as a kind of knowdege, you have to learn it, understand it and at last, you can creat music that belongs to you. But if you are someone who wants to get some pleasure from music, music is just a kind of entertainment to you, you get what you want, and that is good enough. What’s more, there are so many things to learn in the world, it’s impossible for someone to learn all tho se things, just concentrate on what you need and you will enjoy it.

6. Early childhood exposure to classical music has a beneficial effect on mental development?

According to the research results of the Mozart Effect, it is true that early childhood exposure to classical music has a beneficial effect on mental development, and those children will be smarter than the other.

Unit 3 Music

Critical Thinking for Passage One:

Role play:Create an advertisement show to promote the sale of classical music types or CDs based on the text.

(Tom and Jerry are brothers, it is 6:30PM now, they just get home after school. Their father is sitting in the sitting room, watching TV.)

Jim: Daddy, I get the first place in the math exam!

Father: Well done! You are my good Boy! Jerry, come on, how did you do I the exam?

Jerry: Sorry, Dad, I failed the exam, I can hardly concentrate on what the teacher said in the class! Father:Okay, don’t give up, my dear, you will do better next time.

Jerry: Thank you dad, I will try.

Father: Jim, you can get some prize, what do you want?

Jim: I want some classical music CDs, especially Mozart Effect music.

Father: Is a kind of strange, why do you like classical music?

Jim: Because classical music do much good to my study. For example, when I am study in the classroom, listening to classic music can calm me down and cuts my learning time, reduces errors and improve my test sco res. I think that’s why I made a great progress on my study recently.

Father:Wow, that’s awesome!

Jerry: I want some CDs, too.

Father: OK, Let’s go buy some classical music CDs.

Brainstorming:

Do you think music makes you smarter or healthier?

反对:

No, I don’t think music can makes me smarter or healthier directly. For example, when I am reading books or doing homework, listening to music at the same time will often interrupt my thoughts. Thus makes me less efficient, but could not cuts learning time or reduce errors.

When I listen to music in bed, the longer I listen, the harder I can fall asleep. Then, the next morning, I fell sleepy.

And it is kind of dangerous to listen to music when you walk on the road or driving car, a accident may happen because your attention is being placed on music but not the cars or crowds.

Besides, listening to music with headphone for a long time will do harm to our ears, which can even cause a hearing loss, so we would better do not listen to much music. At last, it’s not easy to find some nice music to listen to, so I often waste a lot of time in searching for music.

赞成:

Yes, I think music can make me smarter and healthier. At last mentally healthier, for example, when I am terribly upset, listening to some peaceful music can calm me down and help me to concentrate on my own things; when I am in low spirits, rock music can makes me full of energy. Lying on the bed, I would like to listen to some soft music, which can helps me to have a good sleep, thus do much good to my health. So I believe music can make me smarter and healthier.

How much do you agree with the ideas in the text?

In fact, I don’t agree with some of the ideas in passage one. For example, one benefit of the Mozart Effect is it can heal the body faster. We all have known that our body is a complex system. How fast our body heals from the injury depends on the severity of injury, our health state, our age and many other unkown factors. It is almost impossible for reasearchers to control those variables in an experiment, then how did they come up to the conclusion that Mozart Effect pieces can heals the body faster? Besides, according to my observation, most of the hospitals require people to keep silence, I think that may because patients need a quiet place to rest, playing music in a hospital may make patients angry, so I don’t think it’s a good idea to use music during treatment.

Critical Thinking for Passage Two:

1.Do you think there is enough music for children? What do you think of it?

No, I don’t think there is enough music for children. According to my observation, most musical works we can get on the Internet or hear in TV/radio are for teenagers or grown-ups. And most of these music’s topic is love, though love is an eternal theme for human beings, it should not be the only theme for music. What’s more,

majority of these songs show a wrong attitude to love, which may set a bad example to children, And I think it is too early for children to understand those songs.

On the other hand, those popular children’s song s that are sung in nowadays kindergarten were created several decades ago, because the production of high-quality children’s song has reduced a lot since 1960s. Without enough good songs to sing, many children turned to popular music or some so-called “Gray Children’s song”, which will have a subtle bad influence on their growth.

At last, I think the lack of childre’s song were caused by the aging of creative

Team and relatively low profit from Children's songwriting.

2.Survey:If you were parents, would you make your child learn music? Why?

If I were a parent, I would make my child learn music. But first, I will respect his opinion. If he has interest in music, I will be glad to develop his interest. Because a good interest will help him to find a good way to relax and do much benefit to his later life. Besides, according to the text, music can helps children to develop their right brain, which will improve their performance in many conditions, so I will do it for his good. If he is luckily enough to have a good talent for music, then music may be his career when he grows up, at least, he will get a special skill. Besides, if he has the opportunity to take part in a symphony orchestra, I think he will learn how to cooperate with others, and I believe what he learned here will be a precious treasure for his life.

3.How important is IQ to a person? What do you think of EQ?

IQ is short for Intelligence quotient. It is a score to assess human intelligence. Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is a value that indicates a person's ability to learn, understand, and apply information and skills in a meaningful way. I think a high IQ is important to a person. Persons with a high IQ have a better chance of being successful at school and professionally.

Emotional Quotient (EQ) is a way to measure how a person recognizes emotions in himself and others, and manages these emotional states to work better as a group or team. People with high EQ can often better recognize and control their own emotions, and recognize emotional states in others to adjust their behavior accordingly.

In my Opinion, your IQ only accounts for 20% of your success in life. Your emotional intelligence are much more important to the success you will achieve in life. For example, if you have a High EQ, you can have good relationships with others and you can work easily.

Sharing experiences about music?

Among all kinds of music,I prefer slow music such as light music,it can calm people and create a peaceful atmosphere that is good for relaxing after a busy day.And you can get closer to the nature and relax yourself completely. So if you feel anxious, listening to the may be a good choice.I also like the music that tells a story or sends a message that I can relate to.These songs can bring back memories of those good old days. And that would be fantastic. Using my earphone is a good way to enjoy music for me, because in this way I can more easily to fully immersed in the music.Walking on the street, enjoying the rhythm of the music, and thinking about the story what the song wants to present. The beat of the song just decide the pace I walk at.so it’s the music that enriches my daily life.

Music and language are very alike.

Music is a universal language. There is music in the people's place. Whether it is classical or popular, music is subject to a particular group of people. Beautiful music makes us feel relaxed, quiet, comfortable and satisfied. In the family which are listening to classical music, the relationship between people and people in

harmony. Often contact with the romantic music, people tend to be cheerful, active thinking, good at communication with people.Music could be created in any place when you have inspiration. At most times, we enjoy music like symphonic music. Even pop music, there is needn't to understand what are they wanting to tell us. We just need to hear it carefully. Therefore, music shouldn't have national boundaries. Therefore, music is not only similar to language, but also beyond the language

One way for people to experience music is through recordings, which are abstractions, at some distance from the experience of actual live music.

Music is a kind of art without any borders in the world. Most of the young people like pop music, such as dancing music, rock roll and rap music while the old people and the middle aged people enjoy the folk songs and jazzMusic,no matter what kind it is,can make people get energetic and refreshed. If you feel tired or upset, you may listen to some music. That will be very helpful.More will not affect our feelings about the musicBecause of the different ways of listening to music.

If we treat music as a background to some other activity, we will have no good from it.

Whether we treat the music as the main activity, or just treat the music as the background, it does not affect us to get happiness from the music.According to my personal experience, music has a more positive effect on our life. When we are in a blue mood, no matter what are we doing at that time,we could listen to some foreigner song. Such as, My Love, the Funeral of Hearts and Close to the flame etc. The music is that we needn't to realize what are they singing. When you listen to their rhythm and style, you will feel your heart be touched and shake in a blue mood. Then, you will be enlightened and acquire power. And this has nothing to do with whether we have the music as the main activity.

Do you think music makes you smarter or healthier?

Prologue:Good morning, teacher. I’m glad that you are here to listen to our discussion. Our topic today is music. I think music has become an ordinary thing for us common person and it can be found everywhere in our daily life. Some people listen to music just for leisure, but others believe that their favorite music can make them feel better even can make them smarter or healthier. Now, we will talk about do you think music makes you smarter or healthier? And how much do you agree with the ideas such as benefits of the Mozart Effect listed in the text?

Idea:I think music can make us smarter or healthier.

Personally, listening to my favorite music can make me feel better and even can help melt away a bad mood, that means music can be used to bring a more positive state of mind. As people usually say, Good mood makes people more healthy.

Many books have introduced the world’s research on all the beneficial effects of certain types of music. The most famous of these is some of the hundreds of benefits of the Mozart effect: such as improves test scores, calms hyperactive children and adults, reduces errors, heals the body faster and so on.

From a more professional biological point of view, these special music Mozart Effect pieces, recorded at just the right tempo, activate the left and right brain for the maximum retention effect. Some professional researchers also have located specific areas of mental activity linked to emotional responses to music.

Do you think there is enough music for children? what do you think of it? The music of life is not enough for a child, and more importantly, it is not for children.Early music education on children's development has a very important significance. Childhood is like a piece of white paper in the early growth, and we adults are like white brush, help them draw the outline of the beautiful notes. We are in the critical period of children's music education, use of education, psychology and other aspects of the development of music on it, explore thechildren's musical talent, cultivate their good perception of music. By the early music education for children, is also capable of left and right brain thinking training, let the children create a good brain potential excavation, so as to lay a good foundation for the cultivation of children's art cells. So we should try our best to let the children get into more good music.

If you are parents, would you make your child learn music? why or why not?

As we all known, music is the world language which can make us feel more close.Almost nobody can live without music, whatever the style is.For me,I find it helpful in our daily life.

Firstly, music will make us relax when we are under much pressure.Soft music helps us feel that we were immersed in the nature. Our nerves get released.Secondly,we can get courage from some stimulant music. We can regain our confidence gradually from the music which contains the inspiring lyrics.I appreciate those music https://www.360docs.net/doc/3511474042.html,st but not the least, listening to music, especially foreign music, will help us to learn English and know foreign cultures better.Through the foreign musics, we may gain more konwledges about the United States and Britain.

In conclude, music plays a vital important role in our life.Music to us is water to fishes.Believe me,music will enrich our life and our horizon. So, if I’m parent, I’ll make my children learn music.

How important is IQ to a person? what do you think of EQ?

Someone with high IQ will ensure that he will override others in studies, and thus an intellectual mind will serve all his life. In this respect, it seems as if IQ is much more important than EQ. However, the reality will teach us that most high guys was exploited by those high EQ guys.

Pondering on this question, either IQ or EQ is quite important to a person's growth, development and even his life quality. However, I make up my mind to support the viewpoint that EQ is more important. IQ has been determined from the moment you are born. Whether a person is smart or not depends on his IQ. We can do something like studying to develop our IQ. But we can't expect to make a lot of improvement in our IQ. It is almost fixed and hard to be changed. But we don't own high IQ, does it mean that we will never achieve the success? The answer is ''no''. We still have another form of attribute called "EQ''. What are ''EQ'' for? As a matter of fact, it is independent of IQ and play an important role of deciding how we can lead our own lives. It means an attitude of looking at things at your hands, people around you, so to speak, the outside world and yourself. A person with high EQ makes out how to cope with everything which he have to face and can handles it successfully. He also knows how to get on well with other people even if he dislikes them. Maybe his IQ is not high, however, it doesn't prevent him from embracing the success. Maybe many people who are smarter than him are willing to help him because of his kindness.

(Sample Traditional Interview Questions) 1、"What can you tell me about yourself?" "In high school I was involved in competitive sports and I always tried to improve in each sport I participated in. As a college student, I worked in a clothing store part-time and found that I could sell things easily. It was not long before customers came back to the store and specifically asked for me to help them. I'm very competitive and it means a lot to me to be the best." 2、"What would you like to be doing five years after graduation?"("在毕业以后5年内你想做些
