A fathers love父爱

Daddy just didnt know how to show love. It was Mom who held the family together. He just went to work every day and came home; shed have a list of sins wed committed and hed scold us about them.

Once when I stole a candy bar, he made me take it back and tell the man I stole it and that Id pay for it. But it was Mom who understood I was just a kid.

I broke my leg once on the playground swing and it was Mom who

held me in her arms all the way to the hospital. Dad pulled the car right up to the door of the emergency room and when they asked him to move it saying the space was reserved for emergency vehicles, He shouted, "What do you think this is? A tour bus?"

At my birthday parties, Dad always seemed sort of out of place, He just busied himself blowing up balloons, setting up tables, and running errands, it was Mom who carried the cake with the candles on it for me to blow out.

When I leaf through picture albums, people always ask, "What does your Dad took like?" "Who knows? He was always fiddling around with the camera taking everyone elses picture. I must have a zillion pictures of Mom and me smiling together."

I remember when Mom told him to teach me how to ride a bicycle.

I told him not to let it go, but he said it was time. I fell and Mom ran to pick me up, but he waved her off. I was so mad I showed him,I got right back on that bike and rode it myself. He didnt even feel embarrassed and just smiled.

When I went to college, Mom did all the writing. He just sent checks and a little note about how great his lawn looked now that I wasnt playing football on it.

Whenever I called home, he acted like he wanted to talk, but he always said, "Ill get your mother."When I got married, it was Mom who cried. He just blew his nose loudly and left the room. All my life he said, "Where are you going? What time are you coming home? No, you cannot go."

Daddy just didnt know how to show love, unless...

Is it possible he showed it and didnt recognize it ?

The Key of a Car

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealers showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curiously, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young mans name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" Then stormed out

of the house, leaving the Bible.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and a wonderful family, but realizing his father was very old, he thought perhaps he should go to see him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make the arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his fathers house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his fathers important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years

ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. As he was reading, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealers name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words... "PAID IN FULL".

How many times do we miss blessings because they are not packaged as we expected? I trust you enjoyed this. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.

Sometimes we dont realize the good fortune we have or we could have because we expect "the packaging" to be different. What may appear as bad fortune may in fact be the door that is just waiting to be opened.

A gift of love

Can I see my baby? the happy new mother asked.

When the bundle was nestled in her arms and she moved the fold of cloth to look upon his tiny face, she gasped. The doctor turned quickly and looked out the tall hospital window. The baby had been born without ears.

Time proved that the babys hearing was perfect. It was only his appearance that was marred. When he rushed home from school one day and flung himself into his mothers arms, she sighed, knowing that his life was to be a succession of heartbreaks.

He blurted out the tragedy. "A boy, a big boy...called me a freak."

He grew up, handsome except for his misfortune. A favorite with his fellow students, he might have been class president, but for that. He developed a gift, a talent for literature and music.

But you might mingle with other young people, his mother reproved him, but felt a kindness in her heart.

The boys father had a session with the family physician... "Could nothing be done?"

I believe I could graft on a pair of outer ears, if they could be procured, the doctor decided. So the search began for a person who would make such a sacrifice for a young man.

Two years went by.Then, "Youre going to the hospital, son. Mother and I have someone who will donate the ears you need. But its a secret." said the father.

The operation was a brilliant success, and a new person emerged. His talents blossomed into genius, and school and college became a series of triumphs.

Later he married and entered the diplomatic service. "but I must know," he asked his father, "Who gave me the ears? Who gave me so much? I could never do enough for him."

I do not believe you could, said the father, "but the agreement was that you are not to know...not yet."

The years kept their profound secret, but the day did come. One of the darkest days that ever pass through a son. He stood with his father over his mothers casket. Slowly, tenderly, the father stretched forth a hand and raised the thick, reddish brown hair to reveal taht the mother had no outer ears.

Mother said she was glad she never let her hair be cut, he whispered gently, "and nobody ever thought mother less beautiful, did they?"

The American Revolution represents the link between the seventeenth century, in which modern England became conscious of itself, and the awakening of modern Europe at the end of the eighteenth century. It may seem strange that the march of history should have had to cross the Atlantic Ocean, but only in the North American colonies could a struggle for civic liberty lead also to the foundation of a new nation. Here, in the popular rising against a "tyrannical" government, the fruits were more than the securing of a freer constitution. They included the growth of a nation born in liberty by the will of the people, not from the roots of common descent, a geographic entity, or the ambitions of king or dynasty. With the American nation, for the first time, a nation was born, not in the dim past of history but before the eyes of the whole world.

Fall in Love with English Hiding behind the loose dusty curtain, a teenager packed up his overcoat into the suitcase. He planned to leave home at dusk though there was thunder and lightning outdoors. He had got to do this because he was tired of his parents’ nagging about his English study and did not want to go through it any longer. He couldn’t get along well with English and disliked joining in English classes because he thought his teacher ignored him on purpose. As a result, his score in each exam never added up to over 60. His partner was concerned about him very much. She understood exactly what he was suffering from, but entirely disagreed with his idea. In order to calm him down and settle his problem, she talked with him face to face and swapped a series of learning tips with him. The items she set down helped him find the highway to studying English well. The teenager was grateful and got great power from his friend’s words. Now, he has recovered from being upset and has fallen in love with English. 2 Different Countries Have Different Kinds of Englishes Voyages of people from England play an important part in spreading the English language. At present, English is frequently spoken as an official or common language in many countries, such as America, Singapore, Malaysia and some African countries. All based on British English, the English spoken in these countries can be well understood by native English speakers. But actually, these Englishes have been gradually changing in accents, spellings, expressions and the usage of vocabulary. Because of this fact, you can make use of the differences to tell which country the foreigners of your block are from. For example, if a boss fluently commands his driver, “Come up straight to my apartment by elevator and take some gas for my trucks and cabs”, instead of requesting, “Please come to my flat by lift and take some petrol for my lorries and taxis”, you can recognize his American identity, while the latter suggests that he is British .3.A Hard Trip一次辛苦的旅行 My sister was fond of traveling. Ever since graduating, she had been determined to organize a trip to an old temple. Since transporting fare was expensive, she decided to use a bicycle to cycle there not caring about the disadvantages. Her stubborn attitude was always her shortcoming. Once she made up her mind to do something, no one could persuade her to change her mind. Finally, we gave in as usual though we preferred to take a train. After we prepared everything, including the schedule, reliable weather forecast and

01 The Language of Music A pain ter hangs his or her fini shed pictures on a wall, and every one can see it. A composer writes a work, but no one can hear it un til it is performed. Professi on al sin gers and players have great responsibilities, for the composer is utterly dependent on them. A student of music needs as long and as arduous a training to become a performer as a medical stude nt n eeds to become a doctor. Most training is concerned with technique, for musicians have to have the muscular proficiency of an athlete or a ballet dan cer. Sin gers practice breathi ng every day, as their vocal chords would be in adequate without con trolled muscular support. String players practice moving the fin gers of the left hand up and down, while drawing the bow to and fro with the right arm —two entirely different moveme nts. Sin gers and in strume nts have to be able to get every n ote perfectly in tune. Pia ni sts are spared this particular an xiety, for the no tes are already there, wait ing for them, and it is the pia no tun er s responsibility to tune the instrument for them. But they have their own difficulties; the hammers that hit the stri ng have to be coaxed not to sound like percussi on, and each overlapp ing tone has to sound clear. This problem of gett ing clear texture is one that confronts stude nt con ductors: they have to learn to know every note of the music and how it should sound, and they have to aim at con trolli ng these sound with fanatical but selfless authority. Nevertheless, it has been said that today children interrupt their education to go to school. The distinction between schooling and education implied by this remark is important. Educati on is much more ope n-en ded and all-i nclusive tha n schooli ng. Educati on knows no boun ds. It can take place any where, whether in the shower or in the job, whether in a kitche n or on a tractor. The agents of education can range from a revered grandparent to the people debating politics on the radio, from a child to a distinguished scientist. Whereas schooling has a certain predictability, educati on quite ofte n produces surprises.

It is no longer a difference in degrees of maturity, for all the trees have darkened to their final tone, and stand in their differences of character and not of mere date. Almost all the green is grave, not sad and not dull. It has a darkened and a daily colour, in majestic but not obvious harmony with dark grey skies, and might look, to inconstant eyes, as prosaic after spring as eleven o’clock looks after the dawn. Gravity is the word ; not solemnity as towards evening, nor menace as at night. The daylight trees of July are signs of common beauty, common freshness, and a mystery familiar and abiding as
