Some people like working with people. They insist that when working with people, they are more efficient. Then the work becomes interesting and productive. For them, working with people gives them power and competition. Rivalry is a very effective motive in improving one’s ability. In addition, when they talk and have conferences, they can get better ideas.
On the other hand, some others prefer to work with machines, for they think machines are always effective and accurate, while human beings are capable of mistakes, complains, jealousy and gossip.
Of these two ways of working, either with people or with machines, I would prefer the former because of companionship. We can learn something from the other people even if we don’t like them. If there is companionship, we will love working with people, and we can expect progress in our lives.

Over recent years, volunteerism, the faith to offer helps to the poor and the weak for no monetary gains, is gaining popularity in China. So far, the most active group of volunteers is made up of college students, who offer a range of free services for important sports events or international conferences, or other social welfare activities. V oluntary services are of great significance in modern society. For one thing, such social problems as unemployment, unbalanced distribution of social wealth, and crimes will probably worsen in the process of economic transition. In such case, social support in the form of voluntary services will help those disadvantaged better able to cope with their problems. It’s in this sense that we say volunteerism fosters social cohesion and contributes to social stability. For another, volunteerism is sort of social capital. The social responsibility towards those in need will greatly help to build social mentality, a crucial factor for a country’s development.
From my point of view, people have become aware of the importance of voluntary services. But there is still a misconception that volunteerism simply means material aids in the form of money. In effect, volunteerism means social support in a broad sense- the offering of time, effort, information, ideas and money as well. And now it’s high time for people to know more about the idea, and to actively participate in social welfare activities.
3. The Football Hit

It’s in the 1990s when football was professionalized that the game became a mass sport in China. Though the game is still in its infancy, and even the teams playing in the Group A Division are no match for their counterparts in other countries, it captivates a large number of loyal fans, squandering their wealth on their favorite team, cheering for their football stars. What causes such a football hit?
Most important of all, the fans are drawn to stadiums because both the match and the spectacle that goes with it provide an outlet for feelings. In normal daily life, most people are obliged to exercise great self-discipline and always hide their feelings. But in a football stadium, people can sing, shout, jeer, swear, and leap around-working off feelings they repress elsewhere. What’s better, the match enables the fans to experience an exciting moment when they are staying with others, sharing the energy derived from collective emotions and devotions to the same team. This sense of belonging offers a satisfying compensation for the humdrum tensions created by nerve-racking competitions.
So, that’s why people go to watch football matches. They shout. They cry. And all the spectators seem to be celebrating carnival. Though the outsiders see the most of the game, they could never enjoy the same fun in the matches as the fans do.
4. Education for China’s Migrant Children

Despite China’s educational achievement, migrant children in our country’s big cities are struggling to find a place in school. It’s estimated that only 40 per cent migrant children between five and twelve attend school in Beijing, while in some migrant communities in shanghai, only 20 to 30 per cent of children go to school.
This problem is rooted in the country –to-city migration beginning in 1979. As many migrants cannot get temporary residence permits in the place where they are living, their children can not enroll in city schools due to their temporary status. And the unlicensed schools, which struggle to provide schooling for an estimated 100 000 migrant children, are far from adequate. Though the government decreed that it is unlawful to deny entrance to migrant children. But the local schools often charge very high tuition fees, which most migrant parents cannot afford.
It’s urgent to solve the problems, for the children will make the major labor force when they grow up, and their education will make great difference for our country’s future. But to solve the problem calls for the concerted efforts of the whole society. On one hand, the government should initiate programs to develop the poor areas. On the other hand, all citizens should get rid of their biases against the “floating population” and show sincere concern for the less advantaged.
