早在1949年11月，国际民主妇女联合会在前苏联莫斯科召开会议，参加会议的代表为了保证全世界儿童的生存权、保健权和受教育权，反对帝国主义战争贩子毒害、虐待儿童，提出了每年的6月1日为国际儿童节的建议。从此以后，每年的6月1日，各国儿童举行集会，庆祝自己的节日。
我国是在1949年12月23日做出决定，规定每年6月1日为儿童节。1950年的6月1日，毛泽东主席还亲笔为儿童节题写“庆祝儿童节”。今年已是新中国成立之后的第52个儿童节了。同学们在欢度节日的时候，要时刻牢记：今天我们是祖国的花朵，将来要做社会主义大厦的栋梁。
关于“儿童节由来”。
每当“六一”国际儿童节的时候，孩子们都兴高采烈地欢度着自己的节日。那一张张笑脸，一阵阵歌声，都充满了幸福和快乐。但是你是否知道这“六一”节的来历?是否知道当年确定儿童节的时候，是因为世界上有无数的少年儿童在战争中被夺去了幼小的生命。
那是在第二次世界大战期间，1942年6月，德国法西斯枪
杀了捷克利迪策村16岁以上的男性公民140余人和全部婴儿，并
把妇女和90名儿童押往集中营。村里的房舍、建筑物均被烧毁，好端端的一个村庄就这样被德国法西斯给毁了。
为了悼念利迪策村和全世界所有在法西斯侵略战争中死难的儿童，反对帝国主义战争贩子虐杀和毒害儿童，保障儿童权利，1949年11月国际民主妇女联合会在莫斯科召开执委会，正式决定
每年6月1日为全世界少年儿童的节日，即国际儿童节。
新中国成立后，中央人民政府政务院于1949年12月23日
作出决定，规定6月1日为新中国的儿童节，同时宣布废除旧中国
国民党政府1931起实行的4月4日为儿童节的规定。
目前，各国政府普遍关注儿童的未来，保护儿童的权益。联合国1990年通过的《儿童权利公约》，我国是参与制定国和签约国之一。在批准《儿童权利公约》的同一年，我国颁布了《中华人民
共和国未成年人保护法》，这对维护少年儿童的权益起到了积极的
作用。
为切实保障儿童健康成长，中国立法、司法、政府各有关部门以及社会团体都建立了相应的机构。在全国人民代表大会和中国
人民政治协商会议内分别设有负责妇女儿童保障的立法和监督机构。国务院下设的妇女儿童工作委员会，负责协调和推动政府有关部门
做好维护儿童权益的保障工作，为儿童办实事。
