英国首相张伯伦下台后，1940年5月10日，英王授权丘吉尔组织政府。丘吉尔受命于危难之际，但他很快就组成了战时内阁。5月13日，下议院召开特别会议，丘吉尔发表了这篇演讲。
I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.
