Students in university should be specialized in one subject rather than to develop a wider range of many different subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement.

小站版

Nowadays, people are cynical about whether students should major in one subject or learn a variety of subjects when they are in university. From my point of view, I support the latter opinion. On the one hand, students focusing one subject are more likely to take up decent jobs in the future. As we all know, human beings have already entered the era of specialization. And only with the knowledge of core subject that students learn in the university, can they become professionals afterwards. A fact making the situation even urgent is that the time in university is so limited that if they do not concentrate on one discipline, they may not gain a deeper understanding of this discipline. Taking medical science for an example, there is little possibility for students to become prestigious surgeons or physicians if they do not devote themselves to their core subject.

On the other hand, the situation in the workplace is far more complex and only concentrating on one subject is not sufficient for students to respond to the challenges when they enter the workplace. For example, almost in every industry, graduates have to communicate with colleagues and in this sense, if they learn behavioral psychology in university, they may understand their colleagues more and know how to work collaboratively with others to achieve shared targets. Apart from this, developing a wider range of subjects exposes students to many more new ideas and makes them acquire a multidimensional understanding of current issues, which will definitely promote innovation in their future career.

In conclusion, while sparing on effort to study on discipline can make students become professionals in the future, exposing a variety of subjects is more beneficial for them in the long term.

The advent of telecommunication technology has revolutionized our work patterns and lifestyle. Despite the claim that one has never reaped benefit from this invention, others,as well as I,insist that it has made great contribution to humans more than one aspect.

In this information age, mobile technology makes a huge difference to people’s working style,

thus enhancing their efficiency and productivity. With faster access to the digital reports from colleagues or superiors, staff are allowed to shorten/cut their time spent on insignificant things and therefore accomplish more tasks in the same given period. For example, instead of room-based conference in which people are gathered and then allocated tasks one by one,an email to the target employ with full details of the assignments will do. The time saved can be applied for better use, like training to sharpen their skills or embarking on next project that has long been waiting on the to-do list.

Outside offices, this new technology also brings people closer with strong and lifelong relationship in their life even though the pursuit of career advancement, education attainment and other personal ambitions has scattered them in almost every possible corner of the world. The prosperity of social networking websites and APPs has witnessed the boom of interaction among friends, relatives and strangers. It is not uncommon now to share one's life, for instance, adorable pets, memorable travels,or tasty home-made food on Twitter and INS. The comments and dialogues following these pictures and videos persuade people that they are never alienated from their beloved ones in spite of the geographic distance.

In conclusion, people have been benefitting from modern interaction technology both in their workplace and at home in different ways.

In recent years pressure on school and university students has been increasing and they are pushed to work very hard from a young age.Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

In modern megacities, it is common to see that children at 5 years old are required to attend a variety of curriculums such as dancing, drawing and second language learning. Some people contend that it contributes to their individual development. From my perspective, I agree with this view to some extent.

Admittedly, it is indispensable to urge children to work hard in such a competitive society. In fact, when entering primary schools, pupils endeavor to gain better grades and teachers’compliment. If they fail to devote themselves to study, it is likely for them to fall behind peers or even lose the interest in learning. In addition, one’s potential can never be achieved without persistent efforts. Most distinguished pianists or dancers started their training at the age of three or four, spending all time in learning and practicing. So do the authoritative learners who had cultivated the reading habit at their early age.

Furthermore, a hardworking or diligent learning attitude benefits children for the whole life. There is an old saying that: “You must reap what you have sown.”It means that whether success of academic work, career or life can be achievable depends on how hard a person works. Consequently, in order to cope with the adversity and hardship, there is no doubt that children are supposed to be instilled and conform to this approach.

However, we can not deny the negative impacts it brings. The first one is that childhood, which is often thought as the happiest time of one’s life, may be filled with mathematic formulas or new vocabularies. Naturally, less time is left for children to appreciate the magic of nature or share happiness and sorrows with friends. What’s worse, once lost, it lost forever. How could a young man experience the same feeling as a kid even if they are flying a kite together? Mankind can never walk back to the past.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that children should be forced to work hard from a young age in an attempt to make brilliant achievements while it does not mean that all their leisure activities should be banned. Instead, they are encouraged to alternate work with rest.

The pressure of students in university is increasing rapidly in recent years, since having a bachelor degree is not an edge in the job market any more. Therefore, some people are entertaining the idea that students should be pushed to work hard at young age so as to excel. However, I believe that this would lead to several undesirable consequences.

Students are getting more pressured to achieve their goals mostly set up by their parents or teachers early in life, and getting good grades has become one of them that they are aspiring for. It has been perceived that a good academic record from school can lead to a better academic qualification which could possibly place someone to a decent job. With such belief, people may neglect on the negative effects of the pressure students are encountering. In order to develop students' potentials in academic studies as much as possible, many schools today practice an elite students policy that students are taught separately according to their levels of intelligence. But what makes it a mockery is that instead of making them outstanding, those selected children in advanced classes are deprived of a normal but essential part of growing up, and those who are rejected from studying with the gifted students usually suffer psychological pressure from their parents or themselves not being "good" enough.

Many parents and teachers have a distorted recognition of education today and sometimes students themselves believe that the only purpose of going to school is simply to guarantee a future career and gaining a better chance Of employment. But they have witnessed examples of young people who are struggling to find jobs and those who have found work is being underpaid and exploited. Therefore, people are believed that students should work harder at young age to stand out in adulthood. But, this pressure-driven fashion of education leads to a negative attitude to learning.

All the stress experienced by a student now should be considered seriously, and before making young minds ready for the competitive world too early, allowing them to study and live in a cooperative way is essential for their growing up.

These days we can see many parents pushing their kids to learn all kinds of things by taking them to various after-school programs. This is because, as these parents would claim, that the pressure the kids will face in future is increasing and therefore they should “get started”as early as possible. But personally, I disagree with these well-intentioned parents.

Admittedly, the kids in early-start mode may excel their peers in school grades, but this mode can also result in negative consequences. Forcing a kid to sit at home and learn things in which he/she does not have any interest at all when he/she is supposed to play with other kids outside might eventually kill the kid’s passion for learning. That is exactly why many kids who did really well in primary school end up nowhere when they get to the university level. So, in order not to drain up the kids’oil tank, I would suggest that they be left on the playground as much as possible rather than in their study.

Furthermore, pushing the kids to learn at their early age may give them the harmful impression that life is just like a must-win battle in which they have no alternative but work still harder. For many people, this life philosophy may sound logical enough, but for young kids, this is a little too much because it will spoil their care-free childhood on the one hand, and do no good to develop their right attitude towards life on the other. That is the reason why so many early-start children do not know how to cope with competition and pressure in their future work.

To conclude, pushing young kids to work hard is harmful, rather than beneficial, to their future. To maintain their passion for learning and life, the really wise parents should leave the choices to kids themselves about when to learn and what to learn.

Some people believe that students need to work diligently from an early age since they face increasing more pressure at high school and university. However, I cannot agree with this opinion.

Admittedly, studying harder can make students become more competitive when they receive higher education. It is acknowledged that knowledge one learns at high school and university is more difficult than that of primary and secondary school. If students can learn more knowledge earlier, when they go to high school and university, they probably find that some courses are quite easy for them since they learn some knowledge in advance. However, admitting merits brought by studying harder is not assuming that young students must spend more time on it.

To begin with, students may lose their interest in study if they are forced to study from an early age. For most primary and secondary students, it may be difficult for them to understand the reason why they need to work hard; in other words, they probably lack motivation for study. Providing that schools or parents demand them to concentrate on courses, taking classes will become a boring task for them. Then, it is more likely that students will dislike study, but not focus on it.

In addition, spending too time on study, students will have insufficient time to develop their own hobbies. In the current era, receiving higher education is not the only option for students and many of them can make a living through their personal interests. For example, some students show their talents in taking photos or playing electronic games and there are a lot of photographers and players who live a comfortable life. If students are asked to spend more time on study, their talents in other fields may be neglected.

To sum up, there is no need for students to study harder when they are young, considering that they do not have time for developing their own interests and some of them even dislike study.

Full-time university students should spend a lot of time in studying, but it is essential to be involved in other activities. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

小站版

Nowadays, college students tend to spare more time and energy on their academic study and at the same time lay less emphasis on some extracurricular activities. From my point of view, this is a positive trend.

Firstly, as human beings have entered an era of knowledge-based economy, the more college students learn, the better they prepare for the future. [j1] The specialized knowledge they learn in university will play a key role in their future career. For instance, for a student majoring in medical science, if he does not apply himself to his major, he will meet a number of problems during the treatment and consequently, it is unlikely for him to become a prestigious doctor in the future. By contrast, regarding to students excellent academic attainment, they are more popular in the workplace since their conspicuous transcript is proof of not only their hard work but also their

potential in learning, which is extremely significant for future work.

On the other hand, excellent school performance is far from enough for university graduates, considering the increasingly competitive job market. The situation in real tasks has become more and more complicated, which is difficult for graduates to handle if they are weak in other abilities. [j2] In this case, taking part in some activities during college is a perfect approach for them to understand the complexity in real work and to enhance capacities like communication skills, teamwork spirit and leadership ability. Students engaging in activities tend to have an edge over others who only concentrate on study and they are more likely to find decent jobs after graduation.

In conclusion, I believe in order to become well-rounded individuals, academic study is needed but participating in some extracurricular activities cannot be ignored.

Students are facing more pressure than before. They are expected to devote more time to study and to show better professional competence after they graduate. Some cannot help wondering whether they should spend less time on other activities.

Good academic performance, one of the criteria for measuring one' s competence in career, is the result of years of unremitting effort. Given the fierce competitions that students will face as job seekers and the importance of academic knowledge, students ought to give priority to study. Only when managers are good at economics can they interpret market with insight. Only after years of professional learning can a music art student playa piece of music with a depth that cannot be expected from an amateur.

However, this does not necessarily mean that students ought to be fully immersed into study. They also should be encouraged to travel or take part time jobs. The society they will face might be far more complex than they might have imagined. The experiences as a part time worker Or traveler help them to acquire the basic skills needed for further achievements. During their interactions with the people they meet when they are working or travelling, they can gradually learn to be proper in behavior and considerate in relations with others. They can also learn how to overcome the setbacks they face. All these are important qualities that they are less likely to acquire when they are in universities.

In conclusion, to say academic subjects are important does not mean that they should fully devote themselves to study. They also need more interactions with the world outside so as to make themselves better prepared for their future.

One of the most surprising but delightful things about a university is that it always has a great variety of clubs that the students can join such as yoga club, international chess club, literature club, to name only a few.

Needless to say, university students should devote most of the time to their academic work rather than these club activities. After all, to become expert in one specialized field and get prepared for

future life should become the major concerns for all university students, and these are also what the students pay their tuition for.

However, it does not follow that university students must confine themselves to the library and the classroom. Quite the opposite, they ought to engage in as many extracurricular activities as possible, for if the academic study makes them prepared intellectually, these club activities may be helpful to their future career in many different ways. For example, sports make them physically stronger, boat racing makes them more cooperative, writing makes them more expressive, and camping makes them more persistent. Even those more leisurely activities such as guitar playing or singing can relieve the students of their heavy load of academic work and make them more resilient to physical and emotional stresses in life.

In light of the above discussion, I would argue that university students should have an active club life. It would be the best if the students find the club activities are related and helpful to their academic study. However, when it comes to the amount of time they should give to these activities, the university students must remember that their top priority should always be placed on the academic development, which can never be sacrificed for any other activities, no matter how interesting they might be to the students.

Please show your idea with explanation, examples and your knowledge. Sample answer: It has become a common phenomenon for people in a number of countries to enjoy an increasing life expectancy. While some people believe it is horrible just to imagine getting old , I think the situation has completely changed comparing to decades ago and now elderly people can lead a happy life. In some cases, the seniors do experience empty nest syndrome because their children are away from home. However, things are different nowadays. There are numerous residential homes with trained carers in a country and they have become a perfect place for the elderly to stay after retirement, where the elderly will not feel lonely and bored with the company of their peers. Another concern for numerous senior citizens is the health problem. In the past, without advanced medical science, the seniors tend to suffer from various kinds of diseases, which decrease their quality of life at great extent. By contrast, the medical science is developing at an amazing speed and this trend can at least delay the onset of some chronic conditions and with healthy body, the elderly can enjoy happier lives.
