Education

June2004Nara Institute of Science and Technology,Nara,Japan,Doctor of engineering, specializing in Com-puter Graphics,Animation, and Image processing at the Arti?cial Intelligence Laboratories.

March1991University of Electro-Communications,Tokyo,Japan,Master of engineering, specializing in Plasma Physics,Quantum Physics,Laser Science and Computational Physics at the Institute for Laser Science.

March1989University of Electro-Communications,Tokyo,Japan,Bachelor of Engineering at the Department of Engineering Physics.

Professional Experience

Apr00-present,ATR-Human Information Science Laboratories,Researcher(formally ATR-ISD).My research focuses on creating a realistic speech-synchronized face animation system with various speaker data, and also on creating a large scale3D face database to obtain the characteristics of face deformation, identi?cation and classi?cation.

Apr97-Mar00,ATR-Human Information Processing Laboratories,Loaned Researcher from TOSHIBA.Worked on speech-synchronized face animation system.Based on the work from the TOSHIBA project(below),created a basic 3D face animation system controlled by a small set of parameters which is used in several perceptual experiments by collaborators.

Jan92-Mar00,TOSHIBA Kansai Research Laboratory,Researcher.Worked on various research projects in image coding, computer vision, network communication and computer graphics. My work included inventing a new image coding algorithm in1994which became a part of TOSHIBA’s proposal to MPEG4standardization in1997.In 1995,our group developed TOSHIBA’s?rst face animation system. My paper about cloud visualization was selected as a ?ne work at NICOGRAPH paper contest in1995.

Apr91-Dec91,TOSHIBA Research and Development Center,Researcher.Worked on topics in speech coding and image processing. My major project was overhauling TOSHIBA’s original speech coding simulation program ADP-CELP and converting it into C from FORTRAN.This C program became the base for TOSHIBA’s CELP-related speech coding simulation in the following several years.
