On the day before Halloween, Tom and his friend Bob buy two small pumpkins. They use knives to turn the pumpkins into lanterns, and then they put small candles inside.
On the night of Halloween, they dress up as Superman and Batman. Then they take their pumpkin lanterns and two big empty bags to go out.
They arrive at the door of a house, knock at the door and say, “Trick or treat?” The door is opened and a man with a smile stands at the door. He fills their bags with many candies. Tom and Bob thank the man and go away happily.
They go to another house. The door is open. When they walk in, a white “ghost” with ugly face comes out. Tom and Bob are very afraid. They run away quickly.
On the way back home, they are both excited and happy!
After returning home, they count out their candies. Ah Tom got 106 candies this Halloween, and Bob got 83 candies!

sun pops out and the sea water changes from golden red colour, too.
Finally, the whole sun comes out. The sky becomes so beautiful! The sun likes a giant, spreading the light into every place on land.

Sunrise and Sunset(Ⅱ)
Dick and his parents have a good time on Sunday morning. After supper, they get to the hilltop again to watch the sunset.
In the afternoon, the sun is still as red fire. It shines brightly in the sky, and dyes the clouds into a yellow-orange colour. The golden brightness shines everywhere. It’s so beautiful! Dick looks at the west carefully, and the sky is colorful, at times it is golden yellow and other times it is orange, just like the ribbon in a magician’s hand, changing colours every moment.
Dad says to Dick, “Look, this is the sunset!” Suddenly the clouds fade and the sky becomes darker and darker. The sun hides half of its round head, and then it’s going home!
Mum says, “Look this way, the moon is out.” It’s true. The light yellow moon is looking and smiling at them.
On the way home, Dick is very happy. He sees the beautiful sunrise and sunset today! When he gets back home, he writes an excellent composition: The Beautiful Sunrise and Sunset.

Christmas i

s one of the most important festivals to many western people. Just like the Spring Festival to Chinese.
On Christmas, people often give gifts to their children and good friends. They also live to send Christmas cards to other people.
Here’s a funny story about Christmas cards.
It’s two weeks before Christmas. Mrs. Smith is very busy. She buys a lot of Christmas cards to send to her friends and her husband’s. When she comes back home, she puts them on the table in the living room.
When her husband comes home from work, Mrs. Smith says to him, “Here are the Christmas cards for our friends, and here are the stamps, the pen and the address book. I am cooking the dinner now; can you help me to write the cards?”
Mr. Smith doesn’t say anything, but walks out of the living room and goes into his study. Mrs. Smith is very angry with him, but she doesn’t say anything, either.
After supper, Mr. Smith takes a box from the study. He opens it. It is full Christmas cards with stamps on and all have been addressed.
“There are from last year,” he says, “I forgot to post them, then we can use them, then we can use them this year.”

Outdoor Life
This summer, Tony joined a summer camp. This kind of summer camp teaches children how to live in the open air. Tony wrote a diary every day, and here are his diaries.
The first day: We go to climb mountains. The bright sun is shining, and we carry many heavy bags, soon we feel so tired. Later, the camp leader brings us to a cave and says we are going to go in. But looking into the entrance of the cave form the outside, all of us are afraid. The camp leader says, “Don’t be afraid, be brave!” Hand in hand, we pass through the cave at last. When we see the sunlight again, we are so happy.
The second day: We go to the lake to go swimming. Before we go into the water, the camp leader tells us that it’s mid-summer now, but the water in the lake is cold, so we must do some exercises before we go into the water. Swimming in a lake has a different feeling from swimming at a swimming pool, and the lake water is much colder.
The third day: We go to the beach. The camp leader asks us to walk without shoes. There are many pebbles on the beach. They are hard and cold and some hurt our feet. When we get to the destination, all of us are lying on the beach, eyes closing, listening to the sound of the sea. I daydream about beautiful things.
The fourth day: We go into the forest. The camp leader tells us we have to have a sense of direction. If we lost our way, the sun is a nature compass. And on a cloudy day, we can know the direction by the density of the trees. He also teaches us which wild fruits can

be eaten and how to start a fire.
The fifth day: We live in the forest for one night. Everyone learns how to cut down trees and how to pitch a tent. When it gets dark, we sit around the fire to tell ghost stories, and drink hot juice, and we don’t want to sleep until twelve.
The sixth day: We go back home today.
This summer camp is very interesting and useful. Now I know how to live outdoors.
