Step 1: Lead-in

Present some pictures, teach the students some new words such as “lantern” and make them know about festivals in English.

Step 2 Discussion

Introduction:Today we’re going to learn something about Halloween. In China, we do not celebrate Halloween. But in the USA , people celebrate it. They have a special party on that day. And they play a game called “trick or treat”, They also wear different costumes with masks. They even paint their faces. People do not know each other. They make pumpkin lanterns, eat a lot of chocolates and candies.

Discuss in groups: What do people in the USA do for Halloween? Ask students to collect information and share it with each other.

Step 3: Listen and answer quesion

Please listen to the tape. This is a letter from Wendy to Millie. Try to answer: When is Halloween?(On October 31st)

Step 4: Read and answer questions

Discuss in pairs and answer the following questions.
