What’s your understanding of Gender Roles from a Cultural Perspective?

A:Why you are so happy today.

B:My elder sister's belly have baby,she's pregnant.

C:Oh,congratulations.Do you know it will be a girl or a boy?

D:What's the different between boys or girls?

E:Recently, for example, a study of American public schools showed that there is a cultural bias in education that favors boys over girls.

A: Wow,that's sounded terrible.But I also have heard that the gender bias in the classroom is very serious in America.

B: Yes, From nursery school to postgraduate courses, teachers were shown to call on males in class far more than on female students.

C: This will greatly affect the development of female students, both in psychological and intellectual.Gender inequality should not be ignore in today's society.

D: Yes.Besides, I hear of that some teachers assign homework according to gender. Girls’ tasks are always easy and simple, so, they are have less chances to exercise themselves.

E: Another dimension of gender-biased education is the typical American teacher's assumption that boys will do better in the "hard", "masculine"

subjects of math and science while girls are expected to have better verbal and reading skills.

A:I know this.In fact it is not genetic patterns,but these are cultural. In Germany, for example, all studies are considered "masculine", and it is girls who develop reading problems.

B:But in Japan, where early education appears to be nonsexist, both girls and boys do equally well in reading.

C:In this way, we should put much emphasis on the educations in families and then parents can help children to deal with the mental stress they get from school. So we can decrease the danger of getting psychology disease.

D: But I don’t think this method can solve the problem of gender bias in the class fundamentally.

E: The gender bias depends largely on the teacher's conceptual problems. A: Yeah, if we want to solve the problem in original, we must exchange the error opinion of our teachers. I think education government should take actions on improving teachers’ quality.

B:Government can depart the girls and boys and let they recruited into the single-sex schools.

C: In this way ,I think it could solve gender bias ,but it may lead to new problems during children’s growing.

D: Besides, if the teachers of single-sex school for girls still don’t pay

attention to the education of girls. Then, after graduate from school, girls will lose their competitiveness

E: So, the point of changing teacher attitude is still the most important and original thing
