Hiking is an outdoor activity which consists of walking in natural environments, often in mountainous or other scenic terrain (地形). People often hike on hiking trails. It is such a popular activity that there are numerous hiking organizations worldwide. It is considered one of the recreational activities.

Many people say they go hiking because they love to walk outdoor, without necessarily having a destination ahead of them. This makes hiking much more different than walking down

the street to the store or to some other places that we need to go. People who like hiking say, "We enjoy ourselves along the way whether we arrive somewhere important or not.”

Some people add another reason for hiking to the basic one of loving to be outdoors. These folks see hiking as not only mentally healthy for clearing the mind but also physically healthy as great exercise for the body. Unlike some other more exercise programs, hiking can be an activity for almost anyone in reasonably good health. Hiking on a smooth, level path is even good exercise. Trudging (跋涉) over rougher terrain can be a workout and a time of enjoyment at the same time.

Some people who hike on a regular basis give little thought to the exercise part of the activity. These people are more likely to go hiking because they are exploring nature. They may be interested in the trees or the rocks, Perhaps they are interested in looking at the birds or the various animals that lodge in the forest or the park. Certainly park land is ideal for hiking. Many of these sites have marked for hiking. This leads many to take part in hiking specifically for the exercise and enjoyment of bein g outdoors, when they may not do this otherwise.

Some people look at hiking as having two major benefits. When asked why they go hiking in their spare time many people will combine these reasons: It helps me relax; it doesn't take a great investment of money for equipment. For them, a good pair of shoes and some comfortable clothes can help them get away from work or other stressful situations that may arise in life. In many cases, these hikers can enjoy their favorite pastime a ll year long. They may be able to take those outdoor walks in almost any weather. It's safe to say that hiking can heal and please the human being in many ways.

“A very disruptive(调皮捣蛋的)six-year-old child kicked my legs and clawed at my hand”, said one teacher.“l broke up a fight and was kicked between my legs.”said another. Many people have heard stories like this. But the situation is more worrying still and it involves parents.Every child, regardless of the circumstances into which they are born, has the right to achieve their potential, regardless of their parents’ wealth and class. And we recognize that,as a nation, it is a long way to achieve this goal. But with rights come responsibilities and what worries people is that we are in danger of neglecting the latter.

Far too many children are behaving badly at schoo1.even to the point of being violent to staff. This is terrible enough, but it is hard to be surprised since many children are just mirroring the behavior of their parents.

My members tell me that parents also come into school often and threaten staff and some staff have been attacked by a pupil’s parents. One father encouraged his child to start a fight in the playground before school started.A primary teacher reported that a parent shouted at him.We need to have a serious and sensible debate about the roles and responsibilities of parents and the support that they can reasonably expect of schools and teachers.

Children will not learn how to behave as social beings if they are stuck in front of the TV for hours everyday. They need their parents to show an interest in them and to spend time with them, helping them to play with their peers and to learn the rules of social behavior.

Children are now arriving at school socially undeveloped, increasingly unable to dress themselves, unable to use the toilet properly, unable to hold a knife and fork and unused to eating at a table,Mary Bousted, general secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, writes in t oday’s Observe. Instead of taking responsibility themselves, too many parents expect teachers to control their children’s behavior and wellbeing. she adds. Bousted says one mother blamed staff when she discovered that her 16-year-old son was smoking.

We are in danger of becoming a nation of families living Separate lives under one roof. The bedroom, once a place to sleep, has become the living space for the young.Spending hours in front of computer screens,on social networking sites or being immersed(沉迷于)in computer games, children and young people spend little time with their parents.Parents are unable to monitor just what their children are watching.

Schools cannot fight the wrongs of society and teachers cannot become substitute parents. Both parties need to work together.Parents must be helped and given confidence to take back control. They are responsible for setting boundaries for their children’s behavior and sticking to those boundaries. They are responsible for setting a good example to their children and for devoting that most precious of resources—time—so that children come to school read and willing to learn.

66.In the opinion of the writer, what problem do people ignore?

A.The violence in the schoo1.B.The study pressure of students.

C.The responsibilities of the students.D.The right to achieve students’ potential.67.The underlined part in Paragraph 7 means .

A.parents care little about children’s life at home

B.parents and children live in their separate rooms

C.children don’t live with their parents in the same house

D.children live a different life from that of parents at home

68.The author's attitude to the behavior of parents may be_____.

A.dissatisfied B.indifferent C.understanding D.tolerant

69.From the last paragraph,we can infer that .

A.teachers have no responsibility for playing the role of parents

B.schools can't correct the wrongs that society does to teachers

C.students are responsible for making themselves known in society

D.parents should spend time with children to make them ready to learn

70.What is mainly discussed in the text?

A.Parents expect teachers to correct their children’s bad habits.

B.Don’t blame teachers when it's parents who are failing.

C.There is no point in parents’ educating children at home.

D.Children’s behav ior at school is worrying people.

D

On one September weekend in , I was hawking(叫卖)tickets for my Rotary Club’s annual hot dog and sausage stand in the hallway of a local supermarket. Actually, my Rotarian friends and I were not technically selling tickets, but asking for $ 1 donations. In return for each donation, we would give the giver a ticket redeemable(可补偿的)for one $ 1. 50 hot dog or sausage sandwich at our stand during the following weekend—a great investment return of 50% and one which I gladly pointed out. Hundreds of people came through. Some donated a dollar and received a ticket, and others more. Some generous people simply donated, sometimes $ 5 or $ 10 and did not want tickets. I was impressed.

Then a group of about 6 to 8 men in farm work clothes entered the hall. Living “in the country”, I recognized them as Hispanic farm workers. I knew they were poor by local standards and might not even understand me. So, I decided just to let them walk by me. But after they disappeared into the store for their family necessities, I began to reconsider. I had seen these men toiling in the fields under the blazing sun of an unusually hot summer. I knew they needed every dollar. But I also realized that these were men who deserved the same respect shown to every local citizen. They deserved the chance to donate to a worthy cause, even if they had little. But what to do? Unlike some languages which I know fairly well, my Spanish is very weak, and I must work on it. I could never explain in Spanish. But I did know two little words. When part of their group emerged from their meager(不足的) shopping, I approached them with those two little words: Por favor (Please.) I said nothing more. Two of the men immediately turned around toward me, and without speaking, each handed me a dollar —a dollar that they had earned picking vegetables

under the hot sun. They each accepted the mysterious tickets but never came to the stand — they were probably working in the fields.

My lessons were simple but strong: Do not be stereotyped. Rather, respect! And never doubt the power of one little word ——please.

71. According to Paragraph 1, which of the following statements is true?

A. People donating $ 1 could get a $ 1.5 hot dog or sandwich in no time.

B. Some people didn’t want to get the tickets after their donation.

C. The author took part in the Rotary Club’s activities every year.

D. The main task of the author was to sell hot dogs and sandwiches.

72. The author didn’t ask the farm workers to give some don ations at first mainly because .

A. he was so busy that he could n’t spare any time to ask them to give donations

B. he didn’t want to bother them to purchase their daily necessities

C. he didn’t know how to use poor Spanish to make himself understood

D. he thought they were unwilling to give some donations

73. It can be inferred from Paragraph 2 that .

A. the author didn’t quite enough understand the farm workers at fi rst

B. the author did know several foreign languages very well, Spanish included

C. the author changed his mind because he thought he could persuade them to give donations

D. the main purpose of the farm workers’ entering the store was to donate some money

74. The underlined word “stereotyped” in the last paragraph most probably means.

A. embarrassed

B. impolite

C. prejudiced

D. stubborn

75. Which of the following can be the best little of this passage?

A. Rotary Club’s activity.

B. The same respect.

C. A group of farm workers.

D. The worthy donation.

第Ⅱ卷

第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)

第一节阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)

Why can't I get it done?

This is one question millions of people over the globe ask themselves every now and then. It is not as if you are not working hard, but you simply may not know that there is a difference between work and productivity. Your plan is what gives you a clear picture of what you are aiming at, but the method of achieving may vary from time to time. That you did not meet up with a deadline does not mean you were not working on it. The problem is whether you will be able to manage time.

Before you start on the next activity, task or project, first ask yourself why you want to do what you are about to do now. You will by this be able to know if the task should be done, and if the timing is right.

Doing the right thing at the wrong time makes it absolutely wrong. So it is not just enough to do what is right, also consider . Your time has value, when you spend it on what is right at that instance. On the other hand, the value of your task is when it is done at the right time.

You will feel sorry about the time spent on what was not profitable to you. Time can not be wasted, because it can not be preserved and replaced. You are always doing something with your time. What matters is the value of what you are doing at the moment with your time.

The desire to make a difference begins with the ability to take the right decision on what to do. It will become simple if you learn to manage time effectively.

76. What is the main idea of the text? (within 10 words)

77 Fill in the blank in Paragraph 4 with proper words. (within 10 words)

78. Complete the following statement with proper words. (no more than 5 words)

The Real-Name train ticket selling system has come into effect in Nanchang since January 1, . but people have different opinions about it according to a survey.

The survey found that eighty-three percent of people approve of the system, which benefits passengers as well as the railway station, saying that tickets are available to them and that they don’t have to buy tickets from scalpers, who are blamed for worsening the ticket shortage problem. while 10% of them are against it in that only by showing both their identity cards and tickets will travelers be admitted, which brings about much inconvenience for those who have no ID cards yet. Considering that it may be more difficult for passengers to buy train tickets, 7% of them think it still takes some time to tell

As far as I’m concerned, I hold the point that the new measure provides a fair chance for travelers to buy train tickets. And it is a good way to stop scalpers making profits from selling tickets.

M: I agree with you. The Korean Wave is sweeping Asian countries including China. Young people are going crazy about Korean TV dramas, Korean pop songs, taekwondo and the Korean language.

W: Do you know when the Korean Wave began to hit China?

M: Let me think. Oh, I remember. It started a few years ago with the TV series "Winter Sonata". This love story is still popular. People, especially girls, like the beautiful story and hand some actors like Bae Yong Jun.

W: Exactly. And in the music world, Korean girls are making themselves heard in China.

M: Can you give an example?

W: No problem. We can find big Korean names like Baby V ox, S. E. S and Finkle at the top of the Chinese music charts.

M: The Korean Wave has also made young people want to try the clothes and hairstyles of pop stars, too.

M: Have you seen my new tie, Mum7W: Which new tie?

M: The red one I bought in London. I wore it to the dinner party at the Dawson's place on Saturday and I haven't worn it or seen it since.

W: No, I don't think I've seen it this week. Have .you looked for it in your closet?

M: It's not in the closet. Have you tidied up my bedroom again and put all my things away in new places where I'll never find them?

W: Nonsense! Are you sure you haven't worn that tie since Saturday?

M: No, I don't think so.

W: On Tuesday you went out with Janet and I think you put it on then. Perhaps you left it in Janet' s house.

M: Ah! I remember now. It was a bit hot and I took off my tie in the car on my way home on Tuesday. I suppose it's still in the car.

W: As usual you've got yourself to blame. It's a good job your head is firmly fixed to your shoulders otherwise I'm sure you'd lose that too.

Gloria Latrobe is studying psychology at New York Un iversity. She was once a waitress working at Top Club in New York for a few weeks.

One day, Gordon Williams, an English businessman, came to the club. Gordon happened to be interested in psychology and he talked a lot with Gloria. Finally he gave her a check for_$10,000 to pay for her last year of college, which was really a big tip for her.

Gloria described Mr. Williams as "a race English gentleman" and told the story again and again on television in the US. Unfortunately, Gloria's bank wouldn't pay the money because Williams didn’t have $10,000 in the bank and he didn't even remember giving the tip at all.

But there was a happy ending to the story. Top Club in New York was so pleased that the club's name was in every newspaper in Britain and the United States and the boss of the club gave Gloria Latrobe the $10,000 to pay for her last year at New York University.
