In the very early 1800's, a young boy about 14 years old named John lived in an orphanage(孤儿院) in Old England along with several other children. Orphan meant unwanted and unloved.
Christmas was the one day of the year when the children didn't work and received a gift, an orange. People have dreamed of cars that drive themselves for tens of years. BMW believed cars would be highly automated(自动化的) by 2020 and driverless by 2025. Now, thanks to efforts of companies like Google, V olkwagon and Volvo, they are much closer to becoming reality than many people realize.
Google said it would like to create a driverless car within ten years. As a matter of fact, they have tested kinds of cars that have automated skills. Google has been testing its cars on public roads since 2010. However, there is always a human

Every single day you are the result of what you did on the days prior(先前的). So, you can start turning yourself into who you want to be based on what you decide to do today. What food do you put in your mouth? What book do you read? What movie do you watch? Do you study? Do you learn something? If you make deliberate(深思熟虑的)choices with your life, the changes that you can have after a week or a month or a year is amazing. And you turn yourself into the person that you are going to become.
Life seldom goes as planned. Mine sure didn’t. I couldn’t count the number of dead ends I ran into, setbacks(挫折), serious problems, chances that looked like a sure thing that d idn’t pan out. The key is to accept them.
I decided a long time ago that I wanted to be an astronaut, but I realized it was very difficult for me. So I thought let me head in the direction that I like. Let me do things on the way. If I don’t make it all the way to the very impossible end of the job that I might love to do someday, I will not regret because each of the things that I’m doing on the way are things that I like doing. And I would be happy to stay at. So I did that. I went to university and studied engineering. I loved engineering. It was interesting and challenging. I became a pilot. For example, “Where are the restrooms?” are similar requests for directions to a place. Both are correct English, but the first one sounds less polite. That is because it is very direct question. In English, as in Chinese, we change the way we speak when we talk with different people. The expressions you use might depend on whom you are speaking to or how well you know them. If you say to your teacher, “When is the school trip?”, when the school trip is?”, this will sound much more polite. However, it is all right to ask direct questions in some situations, like with your classmates. Usually polite questions are longer and include more language such as “Could you please…?” or “Can I ask…?” It sounds more polite to say,“Peter, could you please tell me your e-mail address?” than “Peter, tell me your e-mail address.” Sometimes we even need to spend time leading in to a request. For example, with a stranger on the street, we might first say,“Excuse me, I wonder if you can help me” or “I’m sorry to trouble you, but ... before asking for helping. It might seem more difficult to speak politely than be direct. However, it is important to learn how to use proper language.
