外向型企业英文网站之公司简介翻译研究_以浙江嘉兴外向型企业为例

摘要：公司简介英译文本具有外宣功能，翻译时要内外有别，体现出译本的商务性和
译者的翻译主体性。以嘉兴外向型企业的公司简介英译为例，对公司简介英译存在的问题
进行分析，
并提出相应解决方案。关键词：外向型企业；浙江嘉兴；公司简介英译；译者主体性

嘉兴是浙江外向型经济发展的一个缩影。“2010年全市实现生产总值2296亿元，全市进出口总
额228.20亿美元，其中出口160.41亿美元。
”［1］扩大对外宣传是外向型企业开拓海外市场的一个有效手段。省内企业每年都会利用“广交会”“浙洽会”等平台，积极开展对外宣传。它们还搭建网络平
台———企业英文网站宣传自己。但这些英文网站在语言表达、文化传播、信息更新等方面存在不少问
题。本文拟以嘉兴外向型企业的公司简介英译为对象，
从研究的角度就公司简介英译存在的问题进行分析，并提出相应解决方案，旨在提高本土企业的外宣水平，进一步促进外向型企业的发展。
一、嘉兴外向型企业公司简介英译存在的问题
公司简介一般包括简介标题、公司名称、正文和结尾。“公司简介就是企业为树立自己形象，对企
业的现状、
历史背景、企业性质、业务范围、业务特色和企业广告等一些基本情况进行介绍，让客户了解企业是干什么的，从而达到宣传自己的目的。
”［2］76借助公司简介英译，海外客户可以快速了解公司关键信息。嘉兴企业的公司简介英译在公司名称、简介标题、简介正文等方面有很多不足，有待进一
步改进和规范。
（一）公司名称与简介标题翻译
公司名称与简介标题是读者打开企业英文网页首先映入眼帘的重要信息。公司名称是认识企业
最直接、最便捷的窗口。国家工商总局颁发的《企业名称登记管理实施办法》对企业名称及其翻译有
这样的规定：“企业名称应当由行政区划、字号、行业、组织形式依次组成。企业名称需译成外文使用
的，
由企业依据文字翻译原则自行翻译使用。”简介标题是指“公司简介”的名称，汉语中常用“简介”或“公司简介”表示。嘉兴有些企业没有认识到公司名称和简介标题翻译的重要性，翻译时比较随意，产生了一些问题。
1.英译名称地名太多
我国企业按区划、
字号、行业、组织形式命名，含有省、市或县等地名，名称较长，嘉兴企业也是如此。很多公司在翻译地名时，通常“照单全收”，直接把拼音地名植入英文版公司名内，结果译名冗长
复杂，不便记忆，也不符合海外公司名称特点。比如Zhejiang Pinghu Foreign Trade Co．，
Ltd．中的“Zhe-jiang Pinghu ”直接采用音译。英美公司名在法律上没特别限制，行政区划不是公司名的必备内容，绝大多数英美公司名中没有地名，即使有，也是以国家名居多，州郡县等名称几乎没有。一般的市区县行政级别低，知名度低，很多国内人士对此可能也不熟悉，海外朋友更感陌生，拼读汉语地名又很拗口。因此一个知名度低、拼读拗口的拼音地名只会弱化企业的外宣效果，阻碍企业的国际化。可见，汉语地名，特别是市县级地名可以省略不译。比如Pinghu Huacheng Maolu Garment Co．，Ltd．，该译名前三个词都是拼音，即便是国内读者，事先对该企业如不了解，可能也不知名称所指，所以“Pinghu ”完全可以省略。
英译时保留拼音地名的原因主要是受国内企业命名规则的影响。另外，中国译界对此缺乏研究，
译者处理地名时没有理论依据。“企业名称的汉译英应当遵循‘名从主人’的原则。对于没有译名的
企业，
地名使用汉语拼音翻译。”［3］33-34该原则提出企业名称英译时译者要“名从主人”和采用音译，但并没有分析地名是否有必要翻译。
2.字号翻译缺乏内涵
国内外公司名称中都有一个“字号”，这是一个企业区别其他企业的特有代号，是最能代表企业形
象的核心标识。好的字号并不仅仅是个称呼，通常还有一定内涵，具有联想性、知识性、美感和广告功能，能激发客户的购买欲望，因此很多跨国公司都很注重字号的表达。嘉兴有些企业在翻译字号时只
简单音译。虽然拼音在形式上与英文字母相似，
但内涵相去甚远，海外客户对汉语拼音及其组合并不熟悉。比如Zhejiang Huashen Silk Imp．＆Exp．Co．，Ltd．中的字号“Huashen ”是拼音，在西方客户眼中
该拼音只是英文字母没有规律的简单拼缀，难于拼读识记，更难产生美感或购买欲。而且，地名翻译用拼音，字号翻译也用拼音，海外公司名一般不含地名，这样的音译很容易让读者产成错觉，误把地名也当成字号。字号的翻译可以根据英语单词读音和拼写创造一个新词等多种手段来译，使其富有一
定内涵，尽量避免单纯的音译。比如海信和海尔的译名“Hisense ”和“Haier ”，音、意完美组合，凸显
“高灵敏
”“更高更优”的内涵。3.“公司”表达形式单一
汉语表示“公司”的词比较单一，公司名称结尾通常是“公司”，而英语中相关表达较多。如com-
pany ，corporation ，incorporation ，firm ，stores 等。“英语中‘公司’虽然表达形式多，但一般都有其使用范围。”［2］49
英语中除了有许多表达“公司”的词以外，许多企业名称根本就没有表示“组织形式”的词，有时字号就是公司名。微软就用Microsoft 表示，而没有“美国某某州微软某某公司”之类的称呼。随着品牌意识的增强，很多企业把商标和企业名称中的字号合二为一，以强化品牌意识，增强宣传效果。
通过对嘉兴企业名称的研究发现，几乎所有企业名都含有“公司”，而这些公司名的英译几乎都以
“Co．，Ltd．”结尾。比如Zhejiang Shiner I /E CO．，
LTD 等。而英美公司名却很少用“Co．，Ltd．”。据了解，“限定词Ltd．前使用公司普通名称‘company ’却极少，在为数两百家公司中，只出现两次。在英美
公司名称中，末尾使用‘company ’的也极少，两百家公司中只占四家。”［4］所以按照中国公司名称的表
达方式直接翻译并不符合英美公司的命名习惯，对于国内公司的组织形式，翻译时要有所取舍，不能
见到“公司”就用“Co．，Ltd ”表达。公司名的翻译，既要入乡随俗，符合英美公司名的命名规律，也要紧跟时代潮流，尽量让商标与字号表达趋同，以强化企业的国际品牌意识。
4.简介标题翻译重复累赘
西方的公司简介标题用“About Us ”较多，该标题简洁明了，言简意赅，如通用汽车和埃克森美孚
的简介；或“About +字号名”，该标题重复字号，比如“About IBM ”
；或直接用“About ”；该表达过于简单，使用频率不高，微软是这样用的；或用“Our Story ”，这种表达亲切活泼，很有亲和力；还可用“Corpo-
rate （Company ）Profile ”，这种表达庄重正统，不够活泼。以上公司简介的标题，译者可根据企业性质、产品特点、消费群体等灵活翻译，一般不会出现太大问题。比如麦当劳用“Our Story ”做简介标题，对3

小孩子很有吸引力，孩子们一看到这样的标题很可能会联想到可以买到好吃的，还能听故事。就嘉兴企业而言，简介标题的翻译主要问题是重复累赘，拖泥带水。有些公司用了“About”，又在前面使用“introduction”，比如嘉欣丝绸公司的简介标题英译。英语避讳重复，同时使用“about”和“introduc-tion”等于是标题重译，而且用“Introduction”翻译“公司简介”本身并不恰当。而浙江海利得新材料公司同时使用“About Us”“Enterprise Profile”和“Introduction”翻译简介标题，更显多余。
（二）公司简介的正文翻译
公司简介是一种呼吁性文本，内容主要包括企业介绍和产品介绍，英译文本具有商务英语特点，强调简洁性、客观性和专业性。嘉兴企业英文简介的正文翻译存在如下问题：
1.非语言层面问题
非语言层面问题主要指译者在处理目标读者、宣传策略、文化内涵、译材选择等问题时出现的失当之处。
（1）目标读者错位
汉语版公司简介的读者是国内客户，英文简介则针对海外读者。前者基于国内读者审美心理，通常关注企业自身价值，辞藻华丽。而后者应基于海外客户，考虑译语读者的阅读习惯和文化背景，遵循海外公司简介的行文规范。“英语表达客观具体，突出信息功能，强调客户至上，宣扬消费者利益高于一切，特别突出‘YOU-ATTITUDE’。”［5］英译本读者是海外客户，因此译者要基于海外客户的商业需求对汉语版简介进行改编。嘉兴很多企业的简介翻译是逐字对译，信息全盘保留。比如华城集团的简介英译本与汉语版几乎完全一致：
“华城集团是一个用诚信人和铸造起来的诚信企业、平安企业、可持续发展企业。华城集团是以人为本，以诚为根，以中华传统优秀文化为源，肩负社会责任的新时代的民营企业的典型。在平湖、嘉兴、浙江甚至全国有着很高的声誉。Huacheng Group is a trustworthy enterprise，a safe and sound enter-prise，a sustainable developing enterprise．Huacheng Group is based on human resources，rooted on honesty and trustworthiness，originated from Chinese traditional culture，it is a model private enterprise in the new times undertaking its social responsibilites．Huacheng enjoys a high reputation in Pinghu City，Jiaxing City，Zhejiang Province and even the whole China．”［6］
汉语版中的主观性评价内容过多，比如“诚信、平安、可持续发展，以人为本，以诚为根”等，宣传气息过浓，比如“肩负社会责任的新时代的民营企业的典型”，英译几乎是对汉语版本的临摹，充满着主观性评价和宣传性语气。最后一句中的“Pinghu City，Jiaxing City，Zhejiang Province and even the whole China”“照单全收”式的地名翻译考虑的则是国内读者的阅读心理。这种以“MY-ATTITUDE”而不是以“YOU-ATTITUDE”为导向的英译会让译语读者兴味索然。
（2）宣传气息较浓
有些公司过多宣传民族精神或爱国思想，企业外宣时这个功能应该弱化或者隐去。简介翻译是为了在海外推介企业自身，企业做大做强就是爱国的表现，没必要向外国朋友说明自己如何具有民族精神和爱国思想。比如：
“海利得公司坚持以振兴中国聚酯工业纤维……为己任，高起点构筑产业高地，科技自强，实业报国，……，为中国聚酯工业纤维和广告材料工业发展铸就崭新篇章！Hailide insists on taking‘develop synthetic fiber and lamp-box ad material industry of China’as responsibility；builds industrial upland；pur-sues innovation and excellent spirir；and contributes to the development of China chemical fiber ad material industry．”［7］
其中的“taking．．．as responsibility，contributes to the development of China”等有较强的宣传气息，英译时最好隐去或弱化，以免产生误解。“经贸行业对外宣传中的汉译英，处理不当会流于枯燥，影响接受效果。有时需要对某些提法进行淡化处理，做到事实清楚、语言通俗，通情达理。不管原文怎么
表达，译文都要尽量平和。
”［3］358（3）文化因素缺失
虽然公司简介较文学翻译涉及面较窄，仅限于企业本身，但仍要考虑文化因素，稍不注意，就会给
企业带来负面影响。嘉兴有家公司把名称译成Zhejiang Wanfang New Materials Co．，Ltd．英语中
“wan ”是“苍白、病态”的意思，而“fang ”是“狼、蛇的毒牙”，组合在一起就是“病态毒牙新材料”，这类公司的产品相信会吓跑客户。因此，译文要置于英语文化的大背景下来考虑，看其是否符合译语读者的文化
心理。有些企业还在迷信“国家免检”等招牌，在国外根本就没有所谓“国家免检”之说。比如
：“Jin-santa is also granted national inspection-free products ，winning the trust and support from both home and a-
broad clients．”［8］没有经过检验检疫的产品西方消费者肯定不放心，他们会认为“免检产品”不安全，
因此这类“免检产品”不要译出。国外公司简介为拉近与读者距离通常采用“We ”“Our company ”或字
号名引领句子，以主人公身份自我介绍，博取读者好感
：“We are the world ’s largest publicly traded in-ternational oil and gas company．．．”（ExxonMobil ）这种行文模式既表现出自信，又让读者感觉亲切。嘉
兴有些企业好像不好意思介绍自己，从第三方的角度自我介绍
：“It was established in 1973，and now has．．．”“Its business scope covers import and export．．．［9］”“it ”和“its ”拉远了公司与客户的心理距离，自我介绍显得信心不足。
（4）信息过时，简介不
“简”公司简介的信息要不断更新，要向客户介绍企业的最新发展，以体现企业的勃勃生机。假如简介
的信息多年不变，
陈旧过时，等于是在介绍历史。嘉兴某家公司英文简介提到员工数是998人，压缩机年生产能力960万台，而该企业汉语简介中的人数却是2500多人，压缩机年生产能力1200万台，英文中提到的该公司最晚的年份是2002年，距今已过近10年。
“公司现有总资产20多亿元，员工2500余人，
……压缩机年产能力1200万台以上。”“With the staff of 998．．．up to now ，the total sales volume of the compressor has amounted to 9，
600，000．”［10］一个充满陈旧信息的公司简介给读者的印象是要么该企业已经倒闭，要么企业多年没有发展。简介还应该短小精悍。读者没有时间也不会去阅读长篇大论式的企业介绍。简明扼要的文本把企业最重要的信息呈现给读者是著名企业的必然选择，比如通用汽车和沃尔玛的简介字数大约200字。
但嘉兴的很多公司简介翻译内容连篇累牍，过于冗长，简介不
“简”。2.语言层面问题
语言层面的问题主要指译文在语法、句法、词汇等方面存在的问题。公司简介不仅要结构合理，文本简洁，其语言本身也要准确恰当。嘉兴外向型企业英文简介翻译中的语言错误也很多，主要表现在：
（1）语法不当
英语讲究语法规范，逻辑严密，主谓在语态和数上一致，分词逻辑主语与句子主语一致，大小写、拼写要准确无误等，嘉兴企业的英文简介不符合这些语法要求的错误比比皆是。比如：
“The high way connect us with both Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport and Shanghai Pudong In-ternational Airport．．．”［11］主谓不一致，应改译为
“The high way connects us．．．”；“Originated from the meaning of a Chinese saying ：．．．Huacheng got itself named after this saying．”
［6］该句逻辑主语混乱，可改译成
“Originating from．．．”“As the headquarter of Gem-Year Group ，Gem-Year Industrial Co．，Ltd．keep optimize and extend the
industries．”［12］本句不符合“keep +doing ”结构。
“Now Zhejiang Huacheng Group Industrial Investment Co．，Ltd．Has following subordinate compa-
nies．．．”［8］“Through years ’efforts ，the company has developed into Zhejiang Grenn Enterprise ，．．．scien-tific researc and sale．The products are sold well in more than 50countries and regions of North America ，

Middle Easd，．．．”［7］
以上划线单词有拼写错误。这样的错误显然会影响到外商对企业的观感。
（2）中式英语
嘉兴公司简介英译本中汉语句法明显，中式表达较多，文本笨拙生硬：“浙江海利得新材料股份有限公司成立于2001年，经过几年的艰苦创业，已发展成为……The company was founded in2001，after years of hard work，has developed into a set of scientific research，production，sales．．．”［7］该译文是根据汉语表达方式逐字翻译，译成英文时没做任何句式调整。这样的译文也许有些国内读者读起来很顺畅，因为这样的表达方式非常符合我们的思维习惯。该句可改译为“The company was founded in2001．After years of hard work，our company has developed into a set of scientific research，production，sales．．．”
再如：“公司以出口为主导，产品主要销往西欧、美国、中东、韩国、日本等国家和地区。It has been an export-oriented company，major export markets are focusing on West Europe，America，the Middle East，Japan and the Africa．”［12］
译文可以是两个简单句“We are an export-oriented company．Our major export markets are．．．”或可译成并列句“We are an export-oriented company，and our major export markets are．．．”或“We are an ex-port-oriented company；our major export markets are．．．”
（3）用词不专业
公司简介英语文本属商务英语范畴，其特点之一是专业词汇丰富，“因此在翻译时一定要根据企业的基本信息，根据上下文查阅相关的专业词典或专业书籍来确定词义。”［2］49
对于已有的固定表达，比如原产地证明（Certificate of Origin）、知识产权（IPR）、营业额（turnover）等，一般都专词专用。嘉兴有些公司简介译文用词比较业余，缺乏专业性：“晋亿实业股份有限公司成立于1995年11月，注册资本73，847万元。Gem-Year Industrial Co．，Ltd．was established in Nov．1995，with a total capital stock of RMB738，470，000”［12］
“注册资本”在商务英语中已有固定表达“registered capital”，译者没必要再造一个新词“total cap-ital stock”，因为这样反而可能会导致国外客户不明白公司要表达的真正意思。
二、几点思考
上述这些不当或问题一方面会让外国客户不能准确读取企业传递的信息，另一方面，客户会根据这些翻译错误，认为企业要么缺乏人才，没有发展潜力，要么做事邋遢，不可信任，对企业本身造成一些误解。译者要基于简介翻译的商务特点和外宣性质，在政府和企业的配合下，体现出简介文本的中外差异性和译者的特点。
首先，翻译要体现简介的中外差异性。针对上述公司简介翻译存在的问题，译者要有充分的认识和把握，了解其产生的原因。基于以上分析，很多翻译错误都是译者囿于原语文本，照搬直译，没有考虑中西方公司简介的差异。公司简介文本翻译属于外宣资料翻译范畴，外宣翻译要做到内外有别。根据宁海霖、许建忠的研究，中西方公司简介主要存在三大差异：第一，价值观不同。中文企业注重企业价值，着重展示企业形象；西方企业以消费者为出发点，集中展示产品消费价值。第二，语言风格差异。中文简介铺陈夸张，富有激情犹如一团火；英文简介平稳客观，平静自然如涓涓细流。第三，文章结构不同［13］。译者要深入了解海外企简介的特点，以译语读者为中心，采用“变译”策略，即“采用增、减、编、述、缩、并、改、仿等变通手段摄取原作有关内容的思维活动和语际活动。”［14］走“归化”之路，对汉语版简介进行改编、改写，让译文在文本风格、语言特色、文化内涵、阅读心理等方面契合海外潜在客户的心理，使他们易于接受，乐于接受。
其次，要体现译本的商务性。不同的文本要遵循不同的翻译原则。公司简介翻译要遵循商务翻译的基本原则，即语义对等、文体对等。尽管商务英语文本多样，但它们仍具有某些共同的文体风格、
语言风格和语篇特点：“国际商务英语文体具有语言专业，表达客观，庄重正式，清晰明确，文体简约，
语气礼貌，表达程式等特点。
”［15］“使用大量的专业化和准专业化的词汇；缩略词和派生词汇；时态简单、
修辞单调、大量使用逻辑连词。”［2］12-13具体到公司简介翻译，译者也要考虑到商务英语的这些共性，做到英译本中商务文化浓厚，商务特点明显，表达礼貌委婉，客观规范，朴实简约，富有逻辑，对客
户有吸引力。最后，要体现译者的翻译主体性。成功的企业外宣会提高企业所在地的海外知名度，反之会损害其形象，因此企业外宣应得到地方政府的帮助和支持。比如，嘉兴市外经贸局按照一定标准对外向型企业进行考核，公布年度出口明星企业或龙头企业。如果市外经贸局把企业的英文网站建设也纳入考核目标，便能促进企业提高外宣质量；或者相关政府部门组建相关的翻译团队，或聘请外国专家对
外向型企业英文网站建设进行指导；或举办年度企业英文网站建设质量评比，
选出企业外宣年度优秀奖或公司简介单项奖等。这些支持有助于促进包括公司简介翻译在内的各种外宣资料翻译质量的提高。企业自身对外宣的重视程度也影响公司简介翻译质量。企业要充分认识到包括公司简介翻译在
内的英文网站建设对企业的海外发展的重要性，
组建自己的外宣团队，挑选合格的译者，制定合理的翻译制度，比如企业可以授予译者更大的信息取舍权，可以通过制定译者定期维护机制、译者署名机制等手段消除简介翻译中存在信息陈旧、拼写错误、语法毛病泛滥等常识性错误。但公司简介翻译质
量高低最终取决于译者。译者要在政府与企业的配合协助下，
体现出译者的翻译主体性。他们要不断提高专业素养，增强责任意识，端正翻译态度，精益求精，切实改进包括公司简介在内的企业英文网站建设。
嘉兴外向型企业的公司简介英译存在的这些问题在我国其他地区的企业简介英译中也不同程度地存在着。随着我国外向型经济的发展，包括公司简介翻译在内的企业外宣翻译将在企业走向世界过程中扮演更重要的角色。一个没有世界眼光的企业走不出国门，一个不会做外宣的企业走不出国
门。外向型企业要重视企业英文网站建设，
搭建好这个平台，吸引更多的海外客户，促进我国外向型经济的更大发展。

A Study on Company Profile Translation of English Website of Export-oriented Enterprises：Take Export-oriented Enterprises of Jiaxing，Zhejiang Province as a Sample

Abstract：The cross-cultural translation of Chinese philosophical classics should shed light on the legiti-macy and uniqueness of Chinese philosophy，give full play to the dominant role of Chinese translators，dis-play the distinctive Chinese characteristics by the use of foreignization strategy，as well as construct the mod-el of academic translation．
