1.Maintenance history

◆Maintenance has been done as long as humans have used equipment

◆Maintenance development can be divided in four steps:

1.First generation (1930-1950)

–Quick reactions and fixing

–Machines were less loaded and simple

–Machines were easy to fix

–Level of maintenance skills was low

2.Second generation (1950-1980)

–Work planning and management

–Big and low machines

–Interval(间隔) maintenance

3.Third generation (1980-1990)

–Multi-skilled employers

–Professional databases

–Took maintenance and reliability in machine designing into

consideration

–Risk and failure analyses

–Maintenance surveillance

4.Fourth generation (1990→)

–Fast control systems

–Program based maintenance

–Smart sensors aiding in locating problems

–New computer technologies help to monitor machines and other equipment

–Remote monitor keeps costs low and gives possibility to use expert personnel more efficiently

–New features like quality of product, environment and safety issues are included in maintenance control

–With the help of maintenance optimal function of the machines can be changed and therefore compensate the fluctuations in the quantity of

demand and production

2. OEE means overall equipment effectiveness. OEE =Availability*performance*Rate

of quality product.

Availability - the proportion of total time that an item of equipment is capable of performing

its specified functions, normally expressed as a percentage. It can be calculated by dividing the equipment available hours by the total number of hours in any given period.

Quality Rate - used in the calculation of Overall Equipment Effectiveness. The proportion of the output from a machine or process which meets required product quality standards. Normally specified as a percentage.

Performance Rate- The performance rate is the quantity of material produced during the running time, versus the quantity of the material that could have been produced when taking into account the manufactures documented speed of the equipment.

When a company looks at equipment effectiveness, there are six areas where waste can occur; equipment failures, setup and adjustments, idling, scrap and rework, reduced speed operation and startup losses.

When a company first uses OEE metrics they can see the efficiency of their equipment. They then have the information from which they can set improvement goals for their plant. By improving the availability, performance and quality rates a company can reduce their expenditure on maintenance and raw materials as well as improve their manufacturing capability and customer delivery times.

3. Failure lifecycle:If the structure is used according to plans in a planned environment it will

remain good condition through the planned lifecycle. There are three stages in failure

lifecycle :Latent(潜在的)Symptoms(症状)Breakage (only if the failure hasn’t been

repaired during the symptom stage)

Traditionally failure and lifecycle of the equipment is in a shape of bathtub

i. Only one failure model

ii. In the beginning there is some “new product roughness” stabilized after some time by normal using

iii. After certain service life begins wearing and breakage causing the failure curve to rise sharply

4. TPM-Total Productive Maintenance - a company-wide equipment management

program, with its origins in Japan, emphasising production operator involvement in

equipment maintenance, and continuous improvement approaches

5. MDT- Mean down time. The mean time that an item of equipment is out of service, as a

result of equipment failure.

6. Life Cycle Costing - - a process of estimating and assessing the total costs of ownership,

operation and maintenance of an item of equipment during its projected equipment life.

Typically used in comparing alternative equipment design or purchase options in order to select the most appropriate option.

7. LCP- life cycle profit.

8. PM- Preventive Maintenance - an equipment maintenance strategy based on replacing,

overhauling or remanufacturing an item at a fixed interval, regardless of its condition at the time. Scheduled Restorationtasks and Scheduled Discard tasks are both examples of Preventive Maintenance tasks.

9. Reliability - the capability of an asset to continue to perform its intended functions.

Normally measured by Mean Time Between Failures.

10. RCM-Reliability Centered Maintenance - A structured process, originally developed in

the airline industry, but now commonly used in all industries to determine the equipment maintenance strategies required for any physical asset to ensure that it continues to fulfil its intended functions in its present operating context

11. Failure - an item of equipment has suffered a failure when it is no longer capable of

fulfilling one or more of its intended functions.

12. Corrective Maintenance(故障检修)- Any maintenance activity which is required to

correct a failure that has occurred or is in the process of occurring. This activity may

consist of repair, restoration or replacement of components.

13. TPM process -TPM starts with 5s’ Problems cannot be clearly seen when the work

place is unorganized. Cleaning and organizing the workplace helps the team to uncover problems. Making problems visible is the first step of improvement.

'S' terms: Organization → Sort Tidiness → Systematize Cleaning → Sweep

Standardization → Standardize Discipline → Self-discipline

14. The primary advantages if grease are as follows:

It allows bearing to be sealed, keeping lubricant in and contaminants out.

It stays in place where oil would run out.

It generally withstands higher temperature.

It decreases the frequency of lubrication maintenance.

Grease is generally used in applications where oil would leak out or not reach the point where lubricants are needed. Lubricating grease is typically made up of a petroleum-base oil and thickening agent called soap. The function is to hold the oil and release it slowly to provide the lubricating action.

One of the single largest applications for lubricants, in the form of motor oil is protecting the internal combustion engines in motor vehicles and powered equipment.

Grease lubricants account for about 10% of the total lubricants in the world.Reduce the coefficient of friction. To act as a means of dispersing(分散) the heat produced

15. MTTR: Mean Time To Repair - a measure of maintainability. Equal to the total

equipment downtime in a given time period, divided by the number of failures in that

period.

16. RCM- Process for determining the best maintenance to achieve design reliability at

minimum cost.

RCM process

Identifies all functions and functional failures

Identifies all reasonably likely failure modes or failure causes

Then proceeds to identify the effects of these likely failure modes

Identifies in what way those effects matter

Gathering this information the RCM process then selects the most appropriate asset

management policy

Main goals for the RCM

◆To organize the process equipment and then focus maintenance in those equipment

which needs it at most.

◆Find out equipment failure mechanisms and create foundation for new efficient

maintenance method.

◆Include passive limit- and safety equipment in maintenance strategy

◆Make regulation for those equipment which don’t have it yet.

17. There are mainly six prevention principles:

1. Desinging component form to prevent corrosion effect

2. Modify environmental conditions

3. Select better material

4. Active protection of component

5. Cut electrochemical circuit from suitable place

6. Combination of these principles. Using several methods.

Galvanic corrosion: Occurs when two metals or alloys having different compositions are electrically coupled while exposed to eachother, and electrolyte together. 1. Electrially insulate the two metals from each other. 2. Ensure there is no contact with an electroylte. 3. Using antioxidant paste.4. Choose metals that have similar electropotentials. 5. Electroplating or the other plating can also help. 6. Cathodic protection uses one or more sacrificial anodes made of a metal which is more active than the protected metal.

18. Modernization and renovation

Renovation= total repair for machine+ machine is like it was when it was new

Modernization= total renovation+modification to get a machine better it was

19. Preventive maintenance includes following tasks: Observation of failure condition; All

those tasks that are performed in order for the machine to run in planned way (e.g.

lubrications, parts lining); Noticing and repairing the failure before it stops the machine Preventive maintenance consists of three elements: Cherishing the operating conditions Inspections Repairing

●Usually preventive maintenance is planned regular action: Done while machine is

running

●Preventive maintenance includes also predictive maintenance

Machine and part conditions are analyzed by different kind of measurements (e.g.

vibrations and oil analyzing, infra red红外)

?Financial effects are huge

?When expensive machines are used, preventive maintenance is 50%

more economical than not planned maintenance

?Preventive maintenance is 4-10 times more effective than not

planned maintenance

?Not planned maintenance stops production line and financial lost are

even 10 times more than in preventive maintenance which is made while machines are running

TPM是T otal Productive Maintenance 第一个字母的缩写,本意是"全员参与的生产保全",也翻译为"全员维护",即通过员工素质与设备效率的提高,使企业的体质得到根本改善。TPM 起源于50年代的美国,最初称事后保全,经过预防保全、改良保全、保全预防、生产保全的变迁。60年代传到日本,1971年基本形成现在公认的TPM。80年代起,韩国等亚洲国家、美洲国家、欧洲国家相继开始导入TPM活动。90年代,中国一些企业开始推进TPM 活动。 TPM是英文T otal Productive Maintenance的缩略语,中文译名叫全面生产维修,又译为全员生产保全。是以提高设备综合效率为目标,以全系统的预防维修为过程,全体人员参与为基础的设备保养和维修管理体系。 TPM强调五大要素,即: ——TPM致力于设备综合效率最大化的目标; ——TPM在设备一生建立彻底的预防维修体制; ——TPM由各个部门共同推行; ——TPM涉及每个雇员,从最高管理者到现场工人; ——TPM通过动机管理,即自主的小组活动来推进。(PM) 其具体含义有下面4个方面: 1.以追求生产系统效率(综合效率)的极限为目标; 2.从意识改变到使用各种有效的手段,构筑能防止所有灾害、不良、浪费的体系,最终构成“零”灾害、“零”不良、“零”浪费的体系; 3.从生产部门开始实施,逐渐发展到开发、管理等所有部门; 4.从最高领导到第一线作业者全员参与。 TPM活动由“设备保全”、“质量保全”、“个别改进”、“事务改进”、“环境保全”、“人才培养”这6个方面组成,对企业进行全方位的改进。 1.TPM概念 从理论上讲,TPM是一种维修程序。它与TQM(全员质量管理)有以下几点相似之处:(1)要求将包括高级管理层在内的公司全体人员纳入TPM;(2)要求必须授权公司员工可以自主进行校正作业;(3)要求有一个较长的作业期限,这是因为TPM自身有一个发展过程,贯彻TPM需要约一年甚至更多的时间,而且使公司员工从思想上转变也需要时间。 TPM将维修变成了企业中必不可少的和极其重要的组成部分,维修停机时间也成了工作日计划表中不可缺少的一项,而维修也不再是一项没有效益的作业。在某些情况下可将维修视为整个制造过程的组成部分,而不是简单地在流水线出现故障后进行,其目的是将应急的和计划外的维修最小化。 2.TPM的起源

Preventative Maintenance

TO:Equipment User SUBJECT:Preventative Maintenance for the microwave powered UV system. A general PM schedule for your UV system is detailed below: Power supply: There are no regular maintenance procedures that apply to the power supply except to verify proper operation of the front cooling fan(s) and to replace filters, if so equipped. Mechanical placement of power supplies should always allow for the unrestricted air movement at front and rear of the power supply chassis. Since dirt and/or dust deposits can settle on internal electrical components during use, it is advised that this material be removed with a source of dry compressed air during normal scheduled down time. Irradiator: (Regular maintenance) * Every 30 days of operation or as needed * NOTE: Dirty operating environments may require more frequent service. 1)Remove irradiator from it’s light-shield, and carefully place on workbench with the lamp cavity facing up. 2)Remove the RF screen assembly, which covers the lamp cavity, and inspect fine tungsten mesh for any signs of damage.
