Avoidant: I always get my work done on time. When other people drop the ball, sometimes I get frustrated with them.

Effective: I prioritize continual growth and improvement. An area on which I would like to focus is managing others who have different expectations from me. Exercises

A summary is a shorter version of a longer piece of writing, speech, or text. The summary captures all the most important parts of the original, but expresses them in a [much] shorter space.

Example:

At a typical football match we are likely to see players committing deliberate fouls, often behind the referee's back. They might try to take a throw-in or a free kick from an incorrect but more advantageous positions in defiance of the clearly stated rules of the game. They sometimes challenge the rulings of the referee or linesmen in an offensive way which often deserves exemplary punishment or even sending off. No wonder spectators fight amongst themselves, damage stadiums, or take the law into their own hands by invading the pitch in the hope of affecting the outcome of the match.

Unsportsmanklike behavior by footballers may cause hooliganism among spectators.

Read the following and summarize it in one sentence.

Once one of the hottest markets in the world, sales of homes have virtually halted in some areas of Shanghai, prompting developers to slash prices and real estate brokerages to shutter thousands of offices. For the first time, homeowners here are learning what it means to have an upside-down mortgage - when the value of a home falls below the amount of debt on the property. Recent home buyers are suing to get their money back. Banks are fretting about a wave of default loans. "The entire industry is scaling back," said Mu Wijie, a regional manager at Century 21 China, who estimated that 3,000 brokerage offices had closed since spring. Real estate agents, whose phones wouldn't stop ringing a year ago, say their incomes have plunged by two-thirds. "Shanghai's housing slump is only going to worsen and imperil a significant part of the Chinese economy," says Andy Xie, Morgan Stanley's chief Asia economist in Hong Kong.

Check out your zodiac sign on the list below. Be sure you can summarize what the personality of the sign should be like.

Do you think you are like the description of your sign? Why or why not? Think of a story that shows an

example of these characteristics.

ARIES March 21 - April 20

COMPETITION, ACTION, CHALLENGES

Arians are individualistic people who like to make their own decisions and go their own way in life. They are independent and action-oriented. Acting on inspiration, Arians are fiery and impulsive. When interested in a project, especially if it's new and challenging, their energy soars and they become unstoppable. Just watch as they "go for it" in a very straightforward and direct manner!

Arians resent rules, regulations and controlling people. Simplistic, routine tasks drain their energies, whereas they become energetically charged when fighting for a cause or dealing with new challenges.

Arians like to be positive and progressive. The past is behind; their focus lies on those new horizons beckoning ahead.

Because they are born competitors, sports and other forms of physical activity are very important for Arians. They need challenges on a regular basis.

TAURUS April 21 - May 20

DETERMINATION, PATIENCE, SENSUALITY

Taureans are basically practical and down-to-earth people. They are builders who like to focus on long-term projects and see tangible results. Because of their determined streaks, they can be both patient and persistent. Once they have decided on a course of action, they like to see it through to the end.

Taureans have an earthy quality to their personalities. This means they are sensual and need to stay in touch with nature in order to recharge their batteries. They love comfort, good food and other pleasures in life.

Taureans are usually easygoing and friendly. However, they can become irritated and very stubborn if people try to push them around or ask them to do something they are unwilling to do.

Having their feet firmly planted on the ground is important for Taureans. They need to create stability and security in their lives. This means they should be careful with money and stay in touch with nature by regularly going to the countryside or public parks.

GEMINI May 21 - June 21

COMMUNICATION, MOVEMENT, DIVERSITY

Geminians are basically curious and intellectually oriented people. Interested in learning something about practically everything under the sun, they like to meet all kinds of people, communicate and tell stories. One reason for their interest in learning is that they like variety and movement. This means that as they grow older, they are likely to be able to easily adapt to different situations.

Geminians are usually friendly and positive in their attitude towards people, but they are also pranksters. For example, they might like to tease people in order to start discussions and keep things lively.

It's important for Geminians to be on the move as much as possible while dealing with a number of projects and interests. Not only do they dislike sitting still all day dealing with repetitive tasks, but inactivity or lack of movement and variety makes them restless and tired. Geminians should focus especially on communicative tasks and projects that stimulate their minds or are connected to transport (such as travel and automobiles), as well as other forms of movement. Doing so insures that their vitality remains intact.

CANCER June 22 - July 22

CONSERVATION, CULTIVATION, CAUTION

Cancerians are basically conservative, emotional people. They tend to be shy, but they may hide this behind a tough and cool exterior, responding with jokes or sarcastic remarks to disguise their true thoughts and feelings.

Cancerians are usually cautious before committing themselves. Furthermore, they always look for a way out. They like to create safety nets, such as a secret savings account, a well-stocked cupboard and so on.

Their vitality fluctuates, and the same can be said about their willpower. But once they have decided on something, they are persistent and tenacious. Cancerians are at their best when dealing with practical projects that require foresight, such as building a company, cultivating land, selling insurance or working for a solid financial institute.

It's important for Cancerians to stay in touch with nature; they would enjoy a home with a garden or going to the countryside on a regular basis. They should spend as much time as possible with their families and put money in the bank to be prepared for a rainy day.

LEO July 23 - August 23

EXPRESSION, ENTERTAINMENT, LEADERSHIP

Leonians are basically warmhearted, lively and sincere people. They like to tell jokes and stories, but they will speak their minds and let people know if they are displeased.

Leonians feel especially charged and happy when fighting for a cause they believe in or when working on creative projects. They are crusaders who need to be enthusiastic and inspired in order to keep their vitality intact.

Leonians don't like being ignored and are not happy unless they are at the center of activities. Nor do they feel happy when their environment is dull or when they have to deal with routine tasks.

It's important for Leonians to focus on projects that call for creative self-expression, such as those in an innovative business or the entertainment industry. They need creativity and entertainment in order to sustain their passion for life.

VIRGO August 24 - September 22

PERFECTION, INDUSTRY, ANALYSIS

Virgonians are industrious and rational people, doers who like to see tangible results. They are down-to-earth in the sense that they are very observant and detail-oriented. Moreover, they can be quite critical.

Virgonians tend to be both precise and restless. With things that interest them, they are precise to the point of perfection. And yet they are restless, due to a strong nervous energy that calls for movement, activity and industry. This creates a paradox: They can be tidy regarding some things, but disorganized and messy regarding others. The latter especially applies when they are in too much of a hurry or are feeling particularly stressed.

Virgonians don't like inactivity and can't sit still for a long time. Disorder upsets them, especially when it's created by other people or when people mess around with their possessions or misplace them.

It's important that Virgonians develop their analytical faculties, such as in studying the art of communication or seeking a higher education. They also need to take good care of their nerves.

A healthy diet is important in that respect.

LIBRA September 23 - October 22

SOCIALIZING, COOPERATION, BALANCE

Librans are basically friendly and socially oriented people. They are diplomats and networkers who have the potential to be leaders.

Librans like to approach issues from a rational standpoint; they discuss matters, smile and persuade people to see their points of view. Cooperation is an important issue for them. However, if the friendly approach doesn't work, they are quite capable of losing their cool and pursuing matters with steely determination.

Librans dislike vulgarity, scenes and angry people who shout or are emotional, sentimental or irrational. Preferring to work on projects that involve people, cooperation and creativity, they don't like to be alone for long periods of time.

It's important for Librans to be as socially active as possible. They should create a network of contacts and take part in cultural activities and projects that stimulate their intellect. They love to socialize and play with ideas.

SCORPIO October 23 - November 21

POWER, SEX AND PSYCHOLOGY

Scorpians are basically emotional, imaginative and secretive people. They live a strong and rich inner life, meaning they have a tendency to let their imagination create all sorts of positive and negative thoughts or feelings.

When Scorpians set their sight on something, they become very determined, headstrong and focused. Once a project interests them, they can concentrate intensely, to the exclusion of everything else. This means they are all-or-nothing people. They are not wishy-washy; they either like a person or they don't. Likewise, they either throw themselves totally into something or don't bother at all.

Scorpians can be quite sharp and astute. They have the ability to see through superficialities, which can make them somewhat cynical. They may also show an interest in mysteries and crime.

Control is a very important issue for Scorpians; they want to be in total control over their interests and projects. They usually deny this when asked or told by other people, but they are control freaks. They dislike people who try to control them, and they don't like situations that leave them powerless. Furthermore, they don't like strangers to invade their privacy.

SAGITTARIUS November 22 - December 21

FREEDOM, TRAVEL, KNOWLEDGE

Sagittarians are basically positive, optimistic and freedom-loving people who are interested in knowledge and travel. They usually seek out lively projects and interests that broaden their horizons. Yet once they have mastered their tasks, they tend to lose interest and start looking for new challenges.

Sagittarians dislike having their freedom compromised. This includes getting stuck in confined spaces, doing routine tasks and having to sit still for long periods of time. They don't like people who try to "own" them, tell them what to do or are always complaining and talking about their problems. Sagittarians avoid negativity. Indeed, they like looking at the brighter side of life, laughing, having fun and being carefree.

It's important for Sagittarians to be mobile and active. They should take part in sports or other physical activities and travel as much as possible. They are the great travelers of this world: free-spirited and positive, forever seeking new knowledge and experiences.

CAPRICORN December 22 - January 19

ORGANIZATION, SELF-DISCIPLINE, RESPONSIBILITY

Capricornians are basically competent, down-to-earth and result-oriented. They are usually hard workers. They love to organize and are willing to discipline themselves, shoulder responsibility and plan ahead in order to achieve their ambitions.

Capricornians are conservative. Some of them like their possessions, such as their cars, home and clothing, to be classical and elegant, while others focus primarily on functionality and practicality. Most of them are perfectionists.

Being ambitious and innately responsible, Capricornians dislike disorganization, sloppiness and irresponsible behavior. Capricornians have a hard time dealing with people who don't keep their promises, are chronically late or are not willing to shoulder responsibility. Capricornians are especially well suited for business, politics, management and leadership roles. They tend to be a little stiff, both physically and mentally, and need to learn not to be too serious. Many Capricornians do have a good sense of humor, and use jokes to lighten their own and other people's souls.

AQUARIUS January 20 - February 18

INDEPENDENCE, INNOVATION, REALM OF THOUGHT

Aquarians are basically cool, sensible and friendly people. They are intellectually oriented and want their minds to rule their emotions. They like to play with ideas and spend considerable time and energy in the "world of thought."

Aquarians are independent and like to form their own ideas about life — ideas that are often different from the mainstream. Once they have formed an opinion, they stick to it and are not easily swayed by other people.

They often behave in a collected and unruffled manner — for example, by playing it cool when people try to flatter them or become too personal. Like a poker player, Aquarians can become detached in certain situations.

Aquarians dislike it when others interfere in their lives, threaten their sense of freedom, make demands or tell them what to do. They don't like people who presume to know them better than they know themselves. Moreover, they don't like familiarity, unless they instigate it.

It's important that Aquarians seek projects and interests that engage their intellect and allow them to work with people, preferably in groups or in a large workplace. They usually like to be socially active, but on their own terms — they cherish their independence.

Proverb: Education is a admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing worth knowing can be taught.
