摘要：同音同形现象出现在多数语言中，英语的对应词是homonymy。然而，对于homonym这个词的解释和分类 却不尽相同。多数学者都只是从词形和发音两方面区分的，而Saeed虽然加入了词类范畴的因素，确没有考虑词形 的因素，所以也有失全面。Homonyms的具体分类能够为学习和理解homonyms有很大的帮助。

"H o m o n y m"这个词来源于希腊语的一个复合词，前缀h o m o-意为相同，后缀-o n y m意为名字&因此，它指的是具有相同读音或拼写形式的词。汉语中有的学者将它译为同音异义词或同形异义词，笔者认为这种翻译方法都只是从它的一个角度出发，有失全面。若译为同音或同形异义词，虽然可更好地表现该词的本质含义，但又略显繁琐，所以本文中提到总的概念时一概使用英语原词hom onym。英语中很多学者把hom onym看成是homophone (同音异义词），hom ograph(同形异义词）和homographic hom ophone(同音同形异义词）的上义词，因此也就将它分为这三类。这个分类方法是完全从语义学的角度出发来看待这一语言现象的，而我们学习语言最主要的目的是使用它。S a e e d在他的Semantics —书中给我们提供了另外一个分类的角度，即同时考虑到句法学。他将h om onym s分为具有相同语法范畴相同读音的hom onym s，具有相同语法范畴不同语音的hom onym s，不用语法范畴相同读音的homonyms 和不同语法范畴不同读音的h o m o n y m s四类[1]63_64。他的分类为我们研究h om onym s的语义语用效果提供了新的角度，不仅有利于我们理解同音同形这一现象本身，同时又为解决同音同形而带来的一些问题提供了新的解决方法，如:如何消除由同音同形引起的歧义，翻译过程中如何选择恰当的语义，以及听力理解过程中如何区分同音词等。笔者希望通过本文给读者介绍一种新的视角，以便更好地解决语言实际使用中遇到的同音同形的问题。

1. Homonyms 的分类

笔者采用S a e d的分类角度，即从语义学和句法学两个角度出发，加入了S a e d未提及的同形因素，将hom onym s分为以下几类，并分别举例说明。

第一类：同音同形同词类异义词（homographic homo-phones of th e s a m e c a te g o ry)，即 ：有相同读音和字形并且属于同一句法范畴的词。如：

(1) ①H er hair has a lo v e ly gloss ?①

例$ 1 %中的两个g l〇SS 都读,g b s ]，而且都是名 词，分别表示“（表面）平滑，光泽”和“（书边或行间 对难字难句的％注解，解释”。例$2%中两个h o t 也都 是名词，读音都是[h #u s ]，意思分别是“一大群，许 多”和“$在自家款待客人的）主人，东道主”。例$3 % 中第一个l e r 指的是“过着某种生活的人，生活者， 居住者”，第二个l e r 指的是人的一个器官“肝 脏”，它们的读音同为,d v ]，而且都是名词。例$ 4 % 中两个p a n 都是动词，都读,p e n ]，第一个应该理解 为“成功，结果”，第二个为“$为摄取全景）左右或上 下移动$摄影机％”。

第二类:同音异形同词类异义词（hom ophones o f

the same cate gory )，即：有相同读音，且属于同一句法

范畴，但字形不同的词。如：

$8 % H e got snake bites at tlie B ig h t o f B e n in .例$5%中s ig h t 和s i t e 同读,s a it ]，都是名词，分 别表示“景色”和“地点”.例$6%中a id e 和a i d 都是 名词，读作[e id ]，分别表示“助手”和“援助”；例 $7%中a i l e 和i l e 都读[a i l ]，意思分别是“通道，侧 廊”和“岛”，同为名词；例$8%中b i t e 和b i g h t 都读 ,b a it ]，都是名词，意思分别是“咬，咬伤”和“海湾”。

第三类:同形异音同词类异义词（hom ographs o f

the same cate gory )，即：有不同读音，但有相同词形，

且属于同一句法范畴的词，如：

例$9%中两个b o w 都是名词，分别表示“船头” 和“弓”，但是它们的读音却分别是,bau ]和,b#u ];例（10%中第一个re s e n t 读作[rid e n t ]，动词，意为“愤 恨，怨恨”，第二个re s e n t 是动词re s e n d 的过去式，读 作[r d e n t ]，是“再发，再寄”的意思;例$11%中两个

s e w e r 都是名词，分别读作,d u #]意为“裁缝，缝衣

者”，,d u #]意思是“下水道”。例$12%中第一个

s tin g y 读作[d i n g i ]，意为“小气的”，第二个s tin g y 读

作,M i n $i ]，意为“刻薄的”，它们同为形容词。

第四类：同音异形异词类异义词（hom ophones o f

e re n t categories %，即：有相同读音，不同字形，且不

属同一句法范畴的词，如：

例$ 13 % 中 cent 和 sent 都读,sent ]。Cent 是名 词，意思是“美分”，s e n t 是动词s e n d 的过去式，send

S b to m a d 意思是“使某人发狂”；例$14%中c i t e 是动

词，意思是“引证”，s t e 是名词，意思是“位置，场 所”，但它们的读音都是[s i t ];例$15 %中f u 是名 词，意为“流感”，f w 是f y 的过去式，意思是“飞，坐 飞机”，它们的读音同是,f u ：];例$ 16 % f ?和f o u r 都 读[f r ]，而f r 是介词，意为“为了”，f u r 是数词，意 思是“四”。

第五类:同形异音异词类异义词（homographs o f

属于同一句法范畴的词，如：
