When traveling on a budget, every dollar counts. Unfortunately, the cost of tickets alone can make a serious hole in your savings. Don’t let that stop you from taking your dream vacation, though. According to Jeff Klee, CEO of https://www.360docs.net/doc/b48774101.html,, there is a “sweet spot” to get the biggest bang for your buck.

“The most important rule is fairly obvious: don’t wait until the last minute, as that rarely works out,” he said in a statement. “But beyond that, you also want to be careful not to buy too early.”

Still, that’s easier said than done. Finding the most cost-efficient time to book is tough. Luckily, somebody did the math—so you don’t have to. Data crunchers from the online travel agency https://www.360docs.net/doc/b48774101.html, surveyed over 917 million fares to determine the day with the cheapest rates.

Here’s what they found: while prices te nd to stay the same between 320 and 106 days before a trip, they start dropping at the 105-day mark. That said, you might be tempted to book the moment prices drop. But hold on! You’ll save even more money by booking precisely 70 days before your trip. Acc ording to https://www.360docs.net/doc/b48774101.html,, you can save 48 percent of the ticket’s total cost by using this trick. After that date, airfares will begin to increase again. And don’t even think about booking any later than 20 days ahead of time, as prices will be soaring.

So, what are you waiting for? Start planning your next dream vacation, and book accordingly. Your wallet will thank you—guaranteed.

31.When can we book our plane tickets to save the most money?

A. The later, the better.

B. As early as possible.

C. 105 days before our trip.

D. 70 days before our trip.

32. How much can the trick help us save if the ticket costs $400 totally?

A. $48.

B. $192.

C. $208.

D. $352.

33. What’s the purpose of the author in writing this text?

A. To explain what a “sweet spot” is.

B. To attract people to traveling by plane.

C. To show the ways of booking plane tickets.

D. To tell people how to buy cheap plane tickets.

B

Slowly but surely, we're moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smart-home security to self-driving cars, all the internet-connected devices in your life will be able to talk to each other at lightning-fast speeds with reduced delay. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the U.S. top out at an average of 19.42 Mbps. But by comparison 5G promises gigabit(千兆) speeds.

“5G is one of those signs, along with artificial intelligence, of this coming data age," said Steve Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. The self-driving vehicle is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one single

task, driving, you have massive amounts of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors are collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It's pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane. It could be weather information, but also connected infrastructure(基础设施)construction. There's lots of data behind that task, which is why we need high speed.

Augmented reality glasses and virtual headset haven't yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting that these devices will eventually replace our smart-phones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist or perhaps even replace smart-phones.

Ericsson stated at February's Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could rely on ha rd-ware for processing power.

But don't get too excited. There's still a lot of work to be done in the meantime, including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn't concentrated only in big cities.

34.What does the author want to stress in Paragraph 1?

A. The lighting-fast speed of 5G.

B. The expectation of 5G world.

C. The difference between 4G and 5G.

D. The internet-connected devices in our life.

35.What does the und erlined word "emblem” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

A. Exhibition.

B. Success.

C. Symbol.

D. Explanation.

36. We can infer from the text that_________

A. 5G world won't come without AR glasses

B. 5G helps to create the artificial intelligence vehicle

C. Apple company is developing AR glasses worldwide

D. tech companies will face the fact that smart-phones may be replaced

37. What will the author probably tell us next?

A. How to fully expand 5G coverage.

B. Smart glasses will become faster and lighter.

C. Why 5G isn't concentrated in big cities.

D. The importance of infrastructure construction.

C

It was a morning in January. The jet stream (急流) had dipped down, causing the Arctic cold to reach the mountains of my home. It was only 2 degrees outside, but the cold wind made it feel like it was 15 below zero. Still, I was kneeling in the snow alongside my house trying to open a tiny door, so I could get in. I had forgotten to leave my water dripping the night before and now my water pipes were frozen and my faucets(水龙头) were dry.

The wind cut into me like a knife while I struggled to get two electric heaters in place around the section of frozen pipes. The waterlines were buried except for a small piece that connected up to my house.

I put a heater on each side of it, ran the extension cords(软线) into my house and plugged them in. Both heaters roared to life and started blowing hot air on the frozen water pipes. My fingers had already started to go numb, so I stayed inside to wait. I could only hope that this bit of warmth could get my water flowing again. Finally, after twenty minutes, the water started flowing through my faucets again. I went back outside into the bitter cold and gathered my heaters up. I looked at the weak January sun shining on the frozen snow and smiled. Then I sent a cry filled with "Thank you" heavenward and returned inside to make myself a hot breakfast.

Sometimes the coldness of this life can get to us as well. It can make our hearts feel icy and frozen. It can keep our kindness and love from flowing out to others. Sometimes, though, all we need is a bit of warmth to get us going again. It can be a simple smile, a kind word, a heart-felt hug, a morning sunrise, a bird’s song or any gentle reminder of just how much God loves us. Let us al l be grateful for those bits of warmth that get us going again. And let us all try to be that bit of warmth for others every chance we get.

38.What was the direct reason why the water pipes were frozen?

A.The jet stream.

B. The low temperature.

C. The cold wind.

D. The author ' s own carelessness.

39. Which of the following can replace the underlined phrase “roared to” in Paragraph 2?

A. Began functioning smoothly.

B. Worked improperly.

C. Broke down suddenly.

D. Screamed out loudly.

40. What did the author think of his work?

A. Embarrassed.

B. Satisfied.

C. Mad with joy.

D. Cautiously optimistic.

41. What is the last paragraph mainly centered on?

A. The coldness of life has a negative effect on our life quality.

B. We meet with the coldness of life unavoidably and unwillingly.

C. We should be thankful for bits of warmth of life.

D. We should seize every chance to receive warmth of life from others.

D

Running may feel like a big task for most of us. But do you know our species has evolved to run better than any other animals on this planet? Cheetahs(猎豹) are the fastest land animals in the world. But do you know that humans can leave them in the dust? At least, in the long run, that’s right. When it comes to endurance(忍耐力), we can outrun cheetahs, wolves and even horses. So what makes humans such endurance running superstars? The secret weapon is our sweat. We have 2-4 million sweat glands (腺) all over our body, which means we can run and cool ourselves at the same time. Having no fur is also a huge plus. In contrast, dogs rely on panting (喘息) to cool down, and other animals, like horses and camels, also

sweat, but less effectively. As a result, they overheat faster and must slow down sooner.

So, why did humans get to be such great endurance runners, anyway? Some experts believe this became important around 2-3 million years ago, when we started hunting. Because we couldn’t chase down a gazelle (瞪羚) like a cheetah, early humans learned hunting.

Studies show running can lower body weight and body fat. And the longer you train, the greater the benefits are. Just one year of training has been shown to reduce body weight by about 7 pounds, lower body fat by 2.7% and decrease resting heart rate by 2.7%.

It may seem really hard, or even impossible to run a mile or a marathon. But in fact, you were born to go on that run. We all were.

42.In the first paragraph, cheetahs are mentioned to ________.

A. show cheetahs are the fastest land animals in the world

B. introduce humans can run fastest on the planet in the long run

C. contrast with wolves and even horses in one aspect of endurance

D. inform running may be a big challenge for most of us humans

43. Why can we humans be endurance running superstars?

A. We can pant to cool down our heat like dogs.

B. We can sweat effectively like horses and camels.

C. We have massive sweat glands and meanwhile no fur.

D. We can run and overheat fastest to cool down ourselves.

44. According to studies in the text, if you want to lose weight, what should you do?

A. Eat a variety of vegetables and less fat.

B. Work out at the gym every day.

C. Exercise outside as much as you like.

D. Conduct systematic training in running.

45. What does the author intend to emphasize in the last paragraph?

A. Humans have great running ability by birth.

B. Humans can chase down animals like cheetahs.

C. Marathoners don’t need hard training.

D. Running can lower body weight and fat.

Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I went to pick up a passenger at 2:.30 a. m. When I arrived to collect, I found the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window.

I walked to the door and knocked, “Just a minute,” answered a weak, elderly voice.

After a long time, the door opened. A small woman in her eighties stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase.

I took the suitcase to the car, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly towards the car.

She kept thanking me for my kindness. “It’s nothing, ”I told her. “I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated.”

“Oh,you’re such a good man,”she said. When we got into the taxi, she gave me an address, and then asked, “Could you drive through downtown?”

“It's not the shortest way,” I answered quickly.

“Oh, I’m in no hurry,”she said. “I’m on my way to a hospice (临终医院).I don’t have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long.”

I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.(计价器). For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked, the neighborhood where she had lived, and the furniture shop that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow down in front of a particular building and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

At dawn, she suddenly said, “I’m tired. Let's go now.” We drove in silence to the address she had given. “How much do I owe you?” she asked.

“Nothing,”I said.

“You have to make a living,” she answered. “Oh, there ar e other passengers, I answered. She said thanks to me, but she looked so sad.
