The book Wuthering Heights told us a story about love and revenge: the abandoned boy Heathdiff was adopted by Mr Eamshaw and lived with Mr Earnshaws son Hindley and daughter Cathiner。 Hindley disliked Heathdiff。 He insulted and maltreated Heathdiff in every possible way after Mr Earnshaws death。 At the same time, peculiar emotion occurred between Cathiners and Heathdiff。 Because of vanity and ignorance, Cathiner decided to mary Linton。

Heathdiff left with anger。 Three years later,Heathdiff returned to revenge。 He succeeded in annexing all the property of Hindleys and the Lintons。 However, Cathiners ghost pestered him all the time, and he died in mental disorder。

To understand Wuthering Heights, you must know the auther Amily well。 She had been abnormal in inentality ever since her childhood。 Her sister Charlotte had once said that Amily was even ber than a man in character, and more simple than a child。

He name Heathdiff was compounded by the words Heath and Cliff, itself gave the readers a feeling of

unfeelingness, which well annotated Amilys abnormal mentality。

Abnormal mentality did good for inducing and enriching the imagination of the auther in some way。Sometimes, Amilys imagination was beyond human

nature but urueasenable。 That was why she could with the thrilling scene in Mr lockwoods dream, the behainour of Cathiner when she fell ill, and the words full of b enthusiasm but unimaginable like。They were locked in an embrace from which I thought my mistress would never be released alive。

Amilys abnormal quality decided the thinking way during her creating, but her work was far from abnormal。 Withering Heights is a healthy and harmonious work。Love-hetred-Ievenge-the Ievival of huanan natme, that is the clue of the story Cathiner and Heathdiff weIe a coupla of Iebels against the trandition The tragedy happened all because Cathiner didit Iesist thoughout and betraged Heathcliff at the key moment she ruined herself,Heathdiff and nearty the next generation The author portraged Cathiner

Ivth a complicated mood she sympathized with her

while being angry with her and she feet Sony for her while spurring to her。

The most vivid character in the story was Iepresented by Hindley and he could bear he was tormented by love Catheters contempt and Laughing at him that was what he couldnt bear That the heavy pies sure split his soul explained his cruel and crazyIeuenge。The writing of the novel gave

preference to mysterious phenomenon and horrible atmosphere One of the most important fealties was the complexity of the narration structure It broke away from conventions and began from the middle This method of narration was for more attractive。

Among all the characters like the housekeeper Allen most She was never afraid of them she always said and did what she wanted to The most important point is that she was kind hearted and justice。A good book is worthy leading for many tines Withering Heights is not easy to understand but once you understand it you wild wander at the talent of the author。

Abstract Emily Bront? is a brilliant writer in Victorian Age. In her short life, she writes only one novel, Wuthering Heights, which has become a worldwide classic for its enduring interest and wide popularity. However, the novel is ignored by the readers and critics of the Victorian Age. It is not until the 20th century that the true value of the novel is discovered. As time passes by, her novel has gained more and more attention. Throughout the hundred years the scholars have attained remarkable achievements from diffident points of view, such as themes, narrative skills, writing style, language, feminism and ecocriticism. This paper tries to apply symbolism to analyze the relation between nature and civilization, which are fighting with each other. But the violation of civilization and the death of nature are responsible for the tragedy of Heathcliff and Catherine. The novel mirrors the root of tragedy of human and akes people to return to nature. In this novel Bront? builds Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, which are the tokens of nature and civilization respectively. She condenses the contradiction of the Victorian Age into the story of the two families. The paper is built around the fate of Catherine. It studies the symbolic meanings of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. Catherine is the conjunction of nature and civilization and the conflict of them is vividly shown in her. The alienation, loss and return of Catherine indicates that civilization represses the nature of human and man should return and comply to nature. Key words: nature; civilization; Catherine; Heathcliff; symbolism

It is considered a classic of English literature and is known for its dark and passionate exploration of love, revenge, and the destructive nature of human relationships. The story is set in the desolate and wild moorlands of Yorkshire, England, and revolves around the intense and tragic love affair between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Catherine is a spirited and beautiful young woman who grows up at Wuthering Heights, a remote farmhouse where she forms a deep bond with Heathcliff, an orphan adopted by her father. Their love is tumultuous and complex, fueled by their intense connection and a mutual sense of being outcasts in society. However, Catherine's desire for social status leads her to marry Edgar Linton, a wealthy neighboring landowner. Heathcliff's heartbreak and anger lead him to seek revenge on those who have wronged him, setting off a chain of events that spans generations. A Report on Wuthering Heights In Wuthering Heights (John Murray edition,1910), Emily Bronte tells the story of love and revenge. Wuthering Heights is written by the time span of thirty years, describes a complex emotional relationships of two generations between the Earnshaw family and Linton family. Heathcliff was a poor gipsy orphan who was deserted on a dirty street. The old kind Mr.Earnshaw took him back and brought him up. Mr.Earnshaw had a beautiful daughter, Catherine Earnshaw, and a son, Hindley. After Heathcliff’s coming to the family, Catherine became his good friend while Hindley always looked down upon the black-haired boy, treated him badly, and tired his best to make him a poor dull farm worker. Because of Heathcliff’s lowly status, he couldn’t offer a comfortable life to Catherine and at last she married Edgar. Linton, a rich young man living in Thrushcross Grange. The whole novel can be divided into four parts. The first phase describes the daily life of Heathcliff and Catherine’s childhood, their special affection is formed in this particular environment as well as their revolt against the tyrannical Hindley. The second phase focuses on the Catherine pursuit of the traditional of human love and betrayed Heathcliff and she became the mistress of thrush. She admitted to Donnelly that her love to Linton who is young, handsome man. He loves her as well as her wealth, let her to become the most distinguished woman. Catherine has said:”In my heart and soul, I clearly know I was wrong.”Because she also loves Heathcliff. The third phase uses a large pen and ink describing Heathcliff’s revenge. The last part of novel is the death of Heathcliff but revealed a new change in the thinking experience-the recovery of humanity when he understood the love between Hareton and Catherine, so we can see a bunch a hope in the tragic love story. My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods; time will change it. I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nell, I am Heathcliff! He's always always in my mind; not as a pleasure, any ore than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being. Love ,when it was passionate, it was sun, rain and sugar;but when itwasn’t passionate, it became a sharp arrow, the deeper you loved, the worse scar you would had. As for a person who had already got hurt badly, love can be a dealcohol agent, which can worn him to be cautious before fall in love again. However, even though it can not be able to prevent the coming of love, until it break all the fantasy of love into pieces one more time. I don’t know exactly how many people died for love, but I believe that most of them had decided to keep alive eventually. They continued to be living, til the time smooth the painful memory. Once think about that one day, all of us well be vanished in the memory of the person who we loved before. What a terrible thing ! I cannot express it; but surely you and everybody have a notion that there is or should be an existence of yours beyond you. What were the use of my creation, if I were entirely contained

The name of the novel comes from the Yorkshire manor on the moors on which the story centres. The housekeeper Ellen Dean, or we can call her Nelly, tells most of the story. She witnesses the life of the three-generations in the two families. She is a good storyteller but we mustn’t believe all of what she said. She always thinks and considers things in a simple way. She couldn’t understand the deep love between Catherine and Heathcliff. She thinks it is a kind of madness. She is a limited narrator. In a certain way, this helps readers to understand Heathcliff better because he has no chance to defend himself. An outsider will see the whole thing more clearly. However, we should pay more attention not to be affect by her opinions and try to find the truth between the lines. The narrative tells the tale of the all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys both themselves and many around them.?Х) As a main character Catherine is a paradox. She is attracted by Linton but doesn’t love him. She knows that clearly but she marries Linton without listening to the call of her heart. Many critics believe that what makes her marry Linton is only his high social status and wealth. I think this comment is unfair. In fact, she folly thinks to marry Linton will help Heathcliff “to rise and place him out of my brother’s power.” Her decision ruins herself, Heathcliff and the two families. She has to endure serious suffering because she knows clearly she love Heathcliff whole-heartedly but can’t become his wife. She confesses to Nelly her own thoughts: “…I am Heathcliff—he’s always, always in my mind—not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself—but as my own being…” She loves Heathcliff because he is more like her than herself. His existence is natural to her for they are the same in nature. They could understand each other without obstacles. Talking about Heathcliff, he is an evil person but I admire him because his love and hate is straight. Everyone has a devil in his heart. The one in Heathcliff’s heart is especially strong. In spite of this, I believe and can read between the lines that Amily Bronte also has her favor to Heathcliff. She wants to tell us evil and love are deeply planted in everyone’s heart and it is human nature.

Beyond Social Divides: Exploring Social Class and Inequality in Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë unveils a profound exploration of social class and inequality, delving into the stark divisions and consequences that arise from the rigid social hierarchy of the Victorian era. Through vivid characters and contrasting settings, Brontë reveals the injustices, prejudices, and limitations imposed by social class, inviting readers to reflect on the pervasive impact of societal divides. The novel highlights the limitations and challenges faced by characters striving for upward social mobility. Heathcliff, an orphan of unknown origins, embodies the struggle against social inequality. His relentless pursuit to transcend his lower class status is met with constant obstacles and societal prejudices, illustrating the entrenched barriers faced by those seeking to defy their predetermined social position. Brontë portrays the pervasive nature of prejudice and discrimination based on social class. Characters like Hindley Earnshaw and Edgar Linton exhibit disdain and condescension towards those of lower social standing, perpetuating a cycle of inequality and dehumanization. The treatment of Heathcliff and other lower-class characters underscores the harsh realities faced by individuals deemed inferior in society's eyes.

I found this in our school library, I chose this book because the title attracted me. The book is structured around two parallel love stories, the first half of the novel centering on the love between Catherine and Heathcliff, while the less dramatic second half features the developing love between young Catherine and Hareton. In contrast to the first, the latter tale ends happily, restoring peace and order to Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. In the story, the two houses, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, represent opposing worlds and values. I spent twenty days reading this book. After reading this book, I felt for Heathcliff at first. Heathcliff begins his life as a homeless orphan on the streets of Liverpool, and then he tyrannized by Hindley Earnshaw. But he becomes a villain when he acquires power and returns to Wuthering Heights with money and the trappings of a gentleman. His malevolence proves so great and long—lasting. As he himself points out, his abuse of Isabella—his wife is purely sadistic, as he amuses himself by seeing how much abuse she can take and still come cringing back for more.
