Heathdiff left with anger。 Three years later，Heathdiff returned to revenge。 He succeeded in annexing all the property of Hindleys and the Lintons。 However， Cathiners ghost pestered him all the time， and he died in mental disorder。
To understand Wuthering Heights， you must know the auther Amily well。 She had been abnormal in inentality ever since her childhood。 Her sister Charlotte had once said that Amily was even ber than a man in character， and more simple than a child。

Abstract Emily Bront? is a brilliant writer in Victorian Age. In her short life, she writes only one novel, Wuthering Heights, which has become a worldwide classic for its enduring interest and wide popularity. However, the novel is ignored by the readers and critics of the Victorian Age. It is not until the 20th century that the true value of the novel is discovered. As time passes by, her novel has gained more and more attention. Throughout the hundred years the scholars have attained remarkable achievements from diffident points of view, such as themes, narrative skills, writing style, language, feminism and ecocriticism. This paper tries to apply symbolism to analyze the relation between nature and civilization, which are fighting with each other. But the violation of civilization and the death of nature are responsible for the tragedy of Heathcliff and Catherine. The novel mirrors the root of tragedy of human and akes people to return to nature. In this novel Bront? builds Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, which are the tokens of nature and civilization respectively. She condenses the contradiction of the Victorian Age into the story of the two families. The paper is built around the fate of Catherine. A Report on Wuthering Heights In Wuthering Heights (John Murray edition,1910), Emily Bronte tells the story of love and revenge. Wuthering Heights is written by the time span of thirty years, describes a complex emotional relationships of two generations between the Earnshaw family and Linton family. Heathcliff was a poor gipsy orphan who was deserted on a dirty street. The old kind Mr.Earnshaw took him back and brought him up. Mr.Earnshaw had a beautiful daughter, Catherine Earnshaw, and a son, Hindley. After Heathcliff’s coming to the family, Catherine became his good friend while Hindley always looked down upon the black-haired boy, treated him badly, and tired his best to make him a poor dull farm worker. Because of Heathcliff’s lowly status, he couldn’t offer a comfortable life to Catherine and at last she married Edgar. Linton, a rich young man living in Thrushcross Grange. The whole novel can be divided into four parts. The first phase describes the daily life of Heathcliff and Catherine’s childhood, their special affection is formed in this particular environment as well as their revolt against the tyrannical Hindley. She couldn’t understand the deep love between Catherine and Heathcliff. She thinks it is a kind of madness. She is a limited narrator. In a certain way, this helps readers to understand Heathcliff better because he has no chance to defend himself. An outsider will see the whole thing more clearly. However, we should pay more attention not to be affect by her opinions and try to find the truth between the lines. The narrative tells the tale of the all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys both themselves and many around them.?Х) As a main character Catherine is a paradox. She is attracted by Linton but doesn’t love him. She knows that clearly but she marries Linton without listening to the call of her heart. Many critics believe that what makes her marry Linton is only his high social status and wealth. I think this comment is unfair. In fact, she folly thinks to marry Linton will help Heathcliff “to rise and place him out of my brother’s power.” Her decision ruins herself, Heathcliff and the two families.
