I tend to think of translation more as an art. Translation is the replacement of textual material in one language by equivalent textual material in another language. The term “art” usually refers to areas where aesthetics and creativity are involved.Translating is an art, because we create a translation that native speakers of the target language can understand easily. If that's not an art, then what is? We are dealing with words and writing. When writing an original text is

an art, then transferring the content of that text into another language without destroying the meaning must be an art, too.

According to the above comparison, we can find that Feng shize’translation is better than Lin yutang’s. Because Feng’s is not only correct, but also beautiful. The last word of each sentence is rhyming as the original one. Lin’s is correct too, however, his translation did not embody the features of Chinese ancient poems.

So we can conclude that translation is an art,which needs translators study carefully the original works, and know completely source language and its culture.
