Can you make your New Y ear’s resolution successful?

A New Year’s resolution is a promise people make to start doing something good or stop doing something bad from the first day of the year. Typical resolutions include giving up smoking and keeping fit. However, the promise is often broken quite quickly and people are back into their bad habits within weeks or days.

A study by Richard Wiseman from the University of Bristol, UK, involving 3,000 people showed that 88 percent of those who set New Year resolution fail, the fact is that 52 percent of the study’s participants (参与者) were confident of success at the beginning.

Some people agree that making New Year resolutions have become a formality. It doesn’t matter whether they are followed or not. It is just like eating turkey on Thanksgiving Day. Life goes on as usual after a resolution is made.
