入党动机则是每位申请入党的积极分子都要碰到的、不可回避的普遍问题。近年来，随着改革开放的不断深入，社会主义市场经济带来的“新潮”观念，以及形形色色的俗风陋习，引起学生的思想观念发生变化，正确的入党动机更显得尤为重要了。动机是指激励人们行为的内在原因，它确定人们的行动方向和水平。所谓入党动机，就是一个人要求入党的内在原因和真实目的。在大学里，要求入党的大学生的入党动机往往是不同的。有的人存在着虚荣型动机，他们是为了“面子”或“不服输”而申请入党，认为党员是一个“时髦”的称号，认为既然别人能入党，我也不能比别人差，让人看不起，以求得心态上的平衡；有的人想通过入党得到好处、捞到实惠，通过入党在政治上找个靠山，认为入了党，容易受到重用，提拔快；还有的人认为党员光荣，入了党个人和家庭都光彩，在亲戚朋友面前也好看；等等。上述的几种动机都是与我们党
的性质、宗旨、奋斗目标不一致，甚至根本是相违背的，因而都是不正确的，甚至是极端错误的。什么是正确的入党动机呢？那就是必须牢固树立共产主义的理想，全心全意为人民服务，坚定为共产主义奋斗终身的信念，并用自己的实际行动为实现这个崇高的理想而奋斗。只有这样的入党动机才符合党章规定的党员条件，入党以后才能发挥一个党员应有的作用，从而保证党的先进性和纯洁性，增强党的战斗力。
