1. Dr. Curtis had been looking for someone to transcribe his Sunday speeches, but could find no one because transcribing directly from the tape was too much to handle.

2. A letter from Mary Louise came out of the blue, saying she would transcribe the tape recording because she wanted to share the inspiration she got from Dr. Curtis.

3. Although Dr. Curtis insisted that he deliver the tape personally, Mary declined his request. Dr. Curtis felt puzzled by the mystery of the arrangement but he happily went along with it.

4. Dr. Curtis had no personal contact with his transcribing angel until one year later when he was invite d to Mary’s home where he found out that Mary had been spastic since birth.

5. Mary continued to type the transcriptions for several years and never asked for reward. She lives a full and dedicated life of service and is regarded by the author as the most beautiful soul he has ever known.

Despite her blindness, the author’s mother never fails to amaze her children with her knowledge of what is going on around her. For them she seems to know everything.

2. How did the author’s mother respond to the dead bird that was brought to her?

The moment she touched the dead bird, she screamed and drew back her hand immediately. Then she ordered the author and the bird outside and admonished her never to let her touch such a thing again.

3. How did the author’s mother know there was a dog in th e house?

She was aware of the dog’s presence because she heard its toenails clicking on the bedroom floor.

4. Why did the author’s mother say she could see what her children were like although she was blind?

She was trying to tell her children that she knew everything about them and loved them, the way every mother knew and loved her children. Besides, she wanted to show her children that she was also rearing them with her mind’s eye.

5. Why doesn’t the author feel short-changed for having a blind mother?

This is because her mother is great. She shows that a blind person can also have dignity, character, wisdom, as well as a great love and devotion for her family. The author is in fact proud of her mother.
