第一节:阅读理解(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项。

A

When I was small and my grandfather died, I couldn’t understand why I didn’t cry. But that night when my dad tried to cheer me up, my laughter turned to tears.

So it came as no surprise to learn that researchers believe crying and laughing are controlled by the same part of the brain. Just as laughing has many health advantages, scientists are discovering that so does crying.

Whatever helps us to reduce pressure is important to our emotional health, and crying seems to work well. One study found that 85 percent of women and 73 percent of men reported feeling better after crying.

Besides, tears attract help from other people. Researchers agree that when we cry, people around us become kinder and friendlier and they are more ready to provide support and comfort. Tears also enable us to understand our emotions through crying, and then we can deal with them.

Just as crying can be healthy, not crying---holding back tears of anger, pain or suffering --- can be bad for physical health. Studies have shown that too much control of emotions can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems and some other illness. If you have a health problem, doctors will certainly not ask you to cry. But when you feel like crying, don’t fight it. It’s a natural --- and healthy --- emotional response.

Friends play an important role in our lives, and although we may take the friendship for granted, we often don’t clearly understand how we make friends. While we get on well with a number of people, we are usually friends with only a very few. For example, the average among students is about 6 friends per person. In all the cases of friendly relationships, two people like one another and enjoy being together, but beyond that, the degree of intimacy (亲密) between them and the reasons for their shared interests very greatly. As we get to know people we consider things like age, race, economics, social position and intelligence (智力). Although all these factors may be of importance, it is more difficult to get on with people when there is a marked difference in age and background.

Some friendly relationships can be sustained (维持) on argument and discussion, but it is usual for close friends to have similar ideas and beliefs, to have attitudes and interests in common, and they often talk about “being on the same wavelength”. It generally takes time to reach this point. And the closer people become, the more they rely on one another. People want to do what their friends favour and hate to break a promise. Equally, friends do have to learn to put up with disgusting habits and to hear different opinions.

In contrast with marriage, there are no formal friendship ceremonies (仪式) to strengthen the relationship between two people. But the supporting and understanding of each other that result from shared experience and feelings dies seem to create a powerful agreement, which can overcome differences in background, and break down barriers (障碍) of age, class or race.

61. When we make friends, we consider such things as age and background because _______.

A. it is not easy to keep a friend with marked differences in such areas

B. the degree of friendship between two people and the reasons for their shared interests can be greatly different

C. friends need to know all these things

D. these are the most important factors to make friends

62. In paragraph 2, the underline part “being on the same wavelength” means “____________”.

A. using the same tone while talking

B. keeping the same friendly relationship as other people

C. having similar ideas, beliefs, attitudes and interests

D. having the same background

63. Which of the following is one of the main ideas expressed in the second paragraph?

A. Good friends must always be “on the same wavelength”.

B. friendships typically become stronger over time.

C. friendship requires being a friend as well as having a friend.

D. friendship means putting up with all of the other persons faults.

64. According to the author, which of the following people are more likely to become good friends?

A. people with shared beliefs.

B. people of the same race.

C. people of different ages.

D. people of the same sex.

65. To strengthen friendly relationship, people __________________.

A. must hold friendship ceremonies

B. have to remove differences in background

C. should support and understand each other through shared experiences and feelings

D. should make friends with those who are of the same age and of the same race

C

After spending three days in Washington D.C., we took a train to Florida. Cleanwater Beach was our first stop in the sunshine state; as the name suggests, it was a very scenic spot indeed. The sand at the beach is silver instead of the normal yellow.

A lot of white Americans choose to sunbathe in order to make their pale skin tanned (晒成棕褐色). However, I preferred to stay in the air-conditioned rooms and didn’t go to the beach until late afternoon, when it was not so hot. The days at Clearwater were spent in a very casual fashion, in contrast to the intensity that was about to come--- at Disneyland.

I used to think that Disney was too childish for me. But I was mistaken. Disney is for everyone, from two-year-olds to 90-year-olds. I had never seen a theme park like this: Disneyworld is imaginative and inspiring! I love it!

There are actually four parks there: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and MGM Studios. The famous Cinderella’s Castle is located in Magic Kingdom, the biggest park of all. There are many thrilling rides in magic kingdom, but I was most fascinated (入迷) by the movies they showed. In those 3-D theatres, audiences are required to wear glasses that make the characters on screen come alive. What is most inspiring is the way they not only use sight and sound, but also other senses, such as smell and touch. There is a scene from “It’s Tough To Be A Bug,” where cockroaches (蟑螂)are supposed to come out and run through the theatre. I felt the air stirring (微动) and a squirmy (蠕动) sensation at my back. Later when the lights came on, I checked my seat, and found an electrical wire hidden inside it. Perhaps that was what made the cockroach effects.

Theatres can also move in the most unexpected way, beyond any of your expectations. In many of the films, my seat seemed to rotate 360 degrees, giving me a complete view of the surroundings, or turn into a vehicle that drove across land as well as water.

To me, Disneyworld is the benchmark (样板) for all other theme parks in the world. I am really glad that they have built one in Hong Kong.

66. Many white Americans prefer __________ skin.

A. tanned

B. white

C. red

D. yellow

67. In Disney, the writer likes ________ most.

A. thrilling rides

B. the movies

C. sunbathing

D. the biggest park

68. What satisfies the writer most about the theatres at Disneyworld?

A. The sense of sight is used by the audience continuously.

B. The senses of sight, sound, smell and touch are all needed.

C. The senses of sight and sound are not required by anyone.

D. The sense of sound is occasionally used by viewers.

69. The feeling of cockroaches while seeing a movie is caused by _________.

A. a real cockroach

B. another worm

C. an electrical wire hidden inside the seat

D. electricity

70. According to the author, Disneyworld is most suitable for what kind of people?

A. Movie lovers.

B. Children and the old.

C. Those who love excitement.

D. Almost everybody.
