When something goes wrong,it can be very satisfying to say, ―Well, it’s so-and-so’s fault.‖ or ― I know I’m late, but it’s not my fault; the car broke down.‖ It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation.

However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the situation. This is the winner’s key to success. Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways to help rather than simply blame the person. Ask to work with a different person, or don’t rely on this person. You should accept it and find creative ways to work successfully. This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens.

Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and chances to develop their own talents.

So, stop thinking about ―whose fault it is.‖ Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stone on for success.

House designers have had the feeling that the places we live in can affect(影响) our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. But now scientists are giving this feeling more evidence. They are discovering how to design spaces that improve creativity(创造力), help people focused and relaxed.

Researches show that aspects of the physical environment can influence creativity. In 2007, Joan Meyers-Levy at the University of Minnesota reported that the height of a room's ceiling affects how people think. Her research shows that higher ceilings encourage people to think more freely. Low ceilings, on the other hand, may lead to a more detailed outlook.

In addition to ceiling height, the view you can get from a building may influence people's ability of concentration. Nancy Wells and her partners at Cornell University found in their study that kids who saw most green can help them do much better in a test of attention.

According to a study led by C. Kenneth Tanner, head of the School Design & Planning Laboratory at the University of Georgia, it seems that using nature to improve focus of attention can help students in learning. Tanner and his team found that students in classrooms with unblocked(无遮挡的) views of at least 50 feet outside the window had higher scores on tests of vocabulary, language arts and maths than the students did in classrooms with windows that can see roads, car parks or close buildings.

Recent study on room lighting design suggests that dim (暗淡的) light helps people to feel more comfortable. If that is true generally, keeping the light low during dinner or at parties could make people relaxed. Researchers of Harvard Medical School also discovered that furniture with rounded sides could make visitors relax.

So far scientists have paid mainly attention to public buildings. "We have a very limited number of studies, so we're almost looking at the problem through a straw(吸管),"architect David Allison says. "How do you take answers to very personal questions and make it public and even use it in society? That's what our efforts are all about."
