New 12-sided pound coin to enter circulation in March
The new 12-sided 1 pound coin will enter circulation on 28 March, the government has said.The round 1 pound will be legal tender alongside the new, more-secure coin until 15 October.The public are being urged to use their current 1 pound coins or bank them before they lose their legal tender status.The government estimates around a third of the 1.3 billion pounds worth of coins stored in piggy banks or saving jars around the UK are the current 1 style.Some of those returned by the public will be melted down and used to make the 12-sided version.The new style was announced in the 2014 budget and has been billed by the Royal Mint as "the most secure coin in the world".Why the new coin is harder to counterfeit?12-sided - its distinctive shape means it stands out by sight

China-made smartphones win greater market share in 2016
As the largest market for smartphones, China has seen a decreased market share held by leading phone-makers including Apple and Samsung in 2016, with domestic brands being the biggest beneficiaries of these drop-offs, Economic Information reported on Dec. 28.Samsung’smarket share dropped by 14.2 percent in the third quarter of 2016, the company’s worst performance to date, which has mainly been attributed to widespread battery explosions of Samsung phones over the past year. But there’s no guarantee the brand will return to the top even if it survives its current crisis.Meanwhile, Samsung’s foreign peer, Apple, has also failed to maintain its earlier performance. With steadily decreasing sales, China has lost its title as Apple’s second largest market. One factor in this decline may be insufficient innovation. Experiencing
"iPhone fatigue," more and more Chinese customers are now moving to domestic brands.Since the first quarter of 2016, shipments of Chinese smartphones for the first time surpassed the totals of Apple and Samsung. Statistics from global market intelligence provider TrendForce showed that production of Chinese smartphones reached 600 million in 2016, accounting for 45 percent of the global total.In addition to marketing, Chinese brands are also devoting energy to new technologies. For instance, some Chinese phone-makers are already leading in technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and 3-D images.With the rise of Chinese brands comes frequent patent litigation between Chinese producers and their foreign competitors. After the US decided to expel 35 Russian diplomatic personnel from the country, a symmetric response was expected from the Russian government. However, President Vladimir Putin ruled out any tit-for-tat expulsion of American diplomats.Before the new sanctions were officially announced by the United States, certain media outlets published leaks on the issue. It was expected that restrictions would be particularly aimed against Russian security and intelligence services. But

A state-of-the-art conservation center to "treat" ancient cultural relics in disrepair opened at Beijing’s Palace Museum on Thursday.The base, informally called the Relic Hospital, covers 13,000 square meters and boasts the nation’s most-advanced restoration workshops, said Shan
Jixiang, the museum’s director."It is the largest cultural heritage conservation center in China," he said.
