Effects of Onem Child Per Family

Nowadays, in China, virtually almost every family only has one child especially in major cities on account of the one child policy, which has been advocated and enforced for years. When it comes to the causes of one child policy in China, in my opinion, the conditions of overpopulation must be initially taken into consideration. What’s more, the change of traditional thoughts contributes to advancing and promoting the special policy as well. Especially, women have transformed the mode of thinking greatly. Compared to assisting their husbands and taking care of children at home, the majority of women now prefer to devote themselves to their own career. But if there is only one child in per family, I’m sure that both our society and children themselves will be influenced dramatically.

On one hand, it is of a great benefit to our society and children themselves. First and foremost, the most apparent effect is that the population growth can be controlled very effectively.

Secondly, it can also reduce the demand of natural resources and maintain a steady development, which is beneficial to the current economic growth in China. Thirdly, as for children themselves, it also does good to them from the policy. At present, every child is the apple in their parents’eyes, therefore, they can receive better education.

On the other hand, the phenomenon that only one child in each family leads to some problems as well. Actually, not only does it have

some bad effects on the whole society, but also it has bad effects on children themselves. In the first instance, the one child policy affects the female population because it is commonly accepted in China that sons who can provide the primary financial supports after their retirement ,are better than daughters. In addition, it is of great harm to the development of children’s character and personality. Since each family has only one child, the child always gets too much love and care from his or her family, which is likely to lead to over-protection. And it may make him or her short of basic skills in life. In the meanwhile, when the only child grows up, he or she will also face much pressure of looking after both 4 old people. Furthermore, the lack of siblings in the family is harmful to the psychological development as they may feel lonely all the time. Also, the feeling of loneliness delays the ability to get along well with others.

To conclude, one child per family has both good and bad effects and we should treat it in a right way. Only in this way can we lead a harmonious life.
