They continued to meet [meeting] daily. He continued to write [writing] while in hospital. Prices continued to fall during April. We continued talking till late. We will continue (with) the payments for another year. We'll continue with our work. She did not continue with her explanation. He continued with his reading as if nothing important had happened. Please continue with what you were doing before I came in. We continued working [to work] after the break. The story continues [is continued] in the next issue of the magazine. He continued reading (=to read) all night. He talked about Keats, and continued by reading us a poem. We hope the weather will continue fine. Mother continues in weak health.

continue to do和continue to doing

Continue to do和continue doing 1.continue to do 继续做另一件事情(已经完成一件工作) After he finished reading a novel, he continued to play games with his friends. 2. continue doing 继续做同一件事(还没完成) After a rest, he continues his reading.

2CONTINUED FRACTION EXPANSIONS 1.Introduction In class,we discussed a continued fraction expression of real numbers.A general continued fraction is an expression of the form: x=a0+ b1 a1+ b2 a2+b3 a3+··· The a i’s and b i’s,which generally can be real or complex numbers, are called the coe?cients or terms of the continued fraction, and x is the value of the continued fraction. If the expression contains a?nite number of terms,it is called a finite continued fraction. If the expression contains an in?nite number of terms,it is called an infinite continued fraction. In this paper,we mainly focus on simple continued fractions, which means all b i’s are1,i.e. x=a0+ 1 a1+ 1 a2+1 a3+··· If all a i’s are integers,we will call it integral continued fraction. 2.Integral Continued Fraction Expansion of a Real Number The Archimedean property gives that for every real number x,there is a unique integer n such that n≤x0,then1/u1>1,then apply the mod one decomposition to1/u1:1/u1=n2+u2.If u2=0we end the process;if not,we continue the same process. After k steps,we may write x=n1+ 1 n2+ 1 n3+ 1 ···+1 n k+u k

continue与go on

The rain went on [contiuned] for three days This state of things cannot continue [go on] forever. 如: Go on, please. Now, the news continues in standard English. 用法continue—continued--continuing 1.continue sth或continue with sth Eg: He will be continuing his education in the US. He continued [went on with] the story. He was permitted to continue with his work while in prison. 2.continue to do和continue doing,都译为“不停地… Eg :They contiuned talking after the meal.吃了饭后他们又继续谈(有间断性) He continued doing homework.(持续无中断性) He picked up his book and continued reading. (有中断性) The baby continued to cry (或crying) all night. 3.continue作不及物动词时,后常接adj/prep短语做表语=remain Eg : He continued silent We hope the weather will continue fine Mother continues in weak health After his illness the Minister continued in office though he was no longer up to the work / up to doing the work 4.continue 译为“继续说接着说” Eg: “And so” he continued,“we will try harder next time.” He went on talking as though nothing had happened You can’t go on working without a break. She nodded, smiled, and went on stitching.她点了点头,笑了笑,又继续缝衣(中断后继续2.go on to do指做完某事后,接着做不同的另一件事 He went on to speak of his war experiences He went on to show us how to do it. After they had read the text, the students went on to do the exercises

In 1582 France became the first country to switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. This meant that the beginning of the year was moved from the end of March to January 1. If someone failed to keep up with the change and continued to celebrate the New Year between March 25th and April 1st,various jokes would be played on him. This story might explain why April 1st specifically became the date of the modern holiday.

The second coming 详细解析 YEATS 叶芝

Yeats came to believe in a cyclical theory of history as he studied comparative history and religion. Indeed, circles are a repeated motif in "The Second Coming" and in his other publications. The title of "The Second Coming" suggests that the poem will depict the Apocalypse, described in Revelation. But biblical history is linear, not cyclical: it has a beginning (Genesis), a turning point (the birth and crucifixion of Christ), and an ending prophesied by the Revelation of St John the Divine. Thus, although the title and much of the poem's language and imagery echo biblical descriptions, its connection to the vision of St John remains obscure. The speaker of the poem seems, at best, doubtful of what he sees: he is a visionary who is unable to understand his vision. The reader shares this confusion in part because the poem begins in medias res: we are plunged into the speaker's vision without any preparation. We do not learn, for example, that the poem describes a vision until line 18, when we learn that the vision itself has vanished. The Second Coming - W.B. Yeats Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; The opening lines of "The Second Coming" introduce two major symbols in the poem which work to represent the sense that contemporary society has lost control. The symbol of the gyre represents eternity. As the present society draws to a close, Yeats sees the gyre of eternity widening. At the birth of a new era the motion of the gyre is narrow. The falcon represents the role of man and current society. As the falcon travels the motion of the gyre, it becomes less aware of its master, the falconer, who represents the order and structure in society. This implies that Yeats's notion of contemporary society is being destroyed by its lack of order, or anarchy. Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, These lines confirm the above idea by showing that without order "Things fall apart." Society's center dissolves as the gyre widens, introducing anarchy. The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; In these lines the conflict between order and anarchy continues. The image of the "blood-dimmed tide" is a violent one which drowns the "ceremony of innocence." Here again, the reader will note that the ceremony, or the ordered part of society is destroyed by the chaotic, violent side.
