高二英语试题

第一卷

第一部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)

第一节:(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30 分)

A

Crossing your legs is an extremely common habit; most people don’t even notice that they’re doing it when they sit down. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.

A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason this happens is because the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart, crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won’t feel any immediate effects, but if you sit for long periods of time it’s important that you take note of how long you have your legs crossed for. You shouldn’t have your legs crossed for more than 15 minutes, and it’s important that you get up and walk around at least once every hour.

Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain. Ideally, it’s best for our bodies to sit with our feet planted flat, hip width apart, on the floor, but it’s not easy to maintain perfect posture all day at the office.

You also might notice that when you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs get tingly(刺痛的) or have the feeling of being asleep. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage.

So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.

1.Crossing legs affect your blood pressure because___________.

A. it causes your body to push the blood back to the heart.

B. you can not feel any immediate effects.

C. it is harder for the blood to circulate.

D. you don’t have enough time to walk around.

2. To solve the problems caused by crossing legs, you’d better_______.

A. sit with your feet planted flat on the floor for hours.

B. keep your sitting posture and stability permanently.

C. try to be aware of whether you are comfortable or not.

D. pay attention to how long you have your legs crossed for.

3.Which word can not describe the feeling when you cross your legs for a long time?

A. tired

B.nervous

C.numb

D. painful

If you have a chance to go to Finland, you will probably be surprised to find how “foolish” the Finnish people are.

Take the taxi drivers for example.Taxis in Finland are mostly high-class Benz with a fare of two US dollars a kilometer. You can go anywhere in one, tell the driver to drop you at any place, say that you have some business to attend to,and then walk off without paying your fare. The driver would not show the least signs of anxiety.

The dining rooms in all big hotels not only serve their guests, but also serve outside diners.Hotel guests have their meals free, so they naturally go to the free dining rooms to have their meals. The most they would do to show their good faith is to wave their registration cards to the waiter. With such a loose check, you can easily use any old registration card to take a couple of friends to dine free of charge.

The Finnish workers are paid by the hour. They are very much on their own as soon as they have agreed with the boss at the rate. From then on they just say how many hours they have worked and they will be paid accordingly.

With so many loopholes(漏洞) in everyday life, surely Finland must be a heaven to those who love to take “petty_advantages”.But the strange thing is that all the taxi passengers would always come back to pay their fares after they have attended to their business and that not a single outsider has ever been found in the free hotel dining rooms. And workers always give an honest account of the exact hours they put

in.As the Finns always act on good faith in everything they do,living in such a society has turned everyone into a real “gentleman”.

4.The underlined words in Paragraph 5 means to “________”.

A. be ready to help others

B.make good use of one's friends

C.be a little ahead of others

D.gain something at others’ expense

5.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

A.While taking a taxi in Finland, you can get off without first paying your fare.

B.In a big hotel in Finland, you can enjoy free meals if you're living in the hotel.

C.The bosses in Finland pay the employees according to the registration of their working hours.

D. The workers are always honest with their working hours.

6.We can learn from the passage that ________.

A.the Finnish society is of very high moral(道德的)level

B.there are many loopholes in everyday life in Finland

C.in Finland, most taxi drivers will not charge you anything

D.everyone in Finland is like a gentleman, for they have faith in themselves 7.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?

A.Life in Finland

B.A Society with “Foolish” People

C.What a Life

D.Honest accounts of the Finns

C

Finding fruits and vegetables at your typical grocery store that have been grown without the extensive use of pesticides can be difficult. Fortunately, The Environmental Working Group(EWG) has done all of the work for you in finding healthy and pesticide-free produce.

EWG has created the 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce, which helps shoppers to find uncontaminated produce. Many consumers do not realize that pesticide

residues(残留) are very common on conventionally grown produce products, even after they have been washed or peeled. Because of this, EWG has created their series of guides to lead consumers to safer food choices.

In order to create these guides, EWG analyzed the USDA pesticides tests, which found a total of 230 different pesticides and pesticides breakdown products on thousands of produce samples. Analyzing this information, EWG observed the big differences of the amount of pesticides found from product to product.

The guide's two main components are two compiled lists highlighting the cleanest and dirtiest produce concerning pesticides. These two lists, Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen, show consumers how certain foods continue to carry trace amounts of pesticides with them all the way to the grocery store shelves, while others make it to your kitchen virtually pesticide-free.

Some of the highlights from their analyses included the following findings:More than one-third of strawberry samples analyzed in 2016 contained 10 or more pesticide residues and breakdown products.

Spinach(菠菜) samples had, on average, almost twice as much pesticide residue by weight compared to any other crop.

No single fruit sample from the Clean Fifteen tested positive for more than four pesticides.

“With EWG's guide, co nsumers can fill their fridges and fruit bowls with plenty of healthy conventional and organic produce that isn't contaminated with multiple pesticide residue,” said Sonya Lunder, a senior analyst in EWG.

Only 25 years ago, the National Academy of Sciences raised concerns about exposure to poisonous pesticides in our food, yet consumers still consume a mixture of pesticides every day in America.

8. Why did EWG create the 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce?

A. To analyze the USDA pesticides tests.

B. To advertise organic produce.

C. To warn some food companies.

D. To help consumers make safer choices.

9. What is the result from the analysis of the USDA pesticides tests?

A. All the samples are polluted.

B. 230 pesticides are banned.

C. Pesticide amounts vary in products.

D. All strawberries are poisonous.

10. Where are shoppers most likely to find spinach?

A. Dirty Dozen list.

B. Organic food advertisement.

C. Clean Fifteen list.

D. Safer food list.

11.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?

A. All conventional produce is safe.

B. No pesticides were used on crops 25 years ago.

C. Consumers never worry about pesticides.

D. Produce safety remains a problem.

D

After photographer Monni Must’s daughter Miya died, the sad mother adopted her black dog, Billy Bean. As Billy became increasingly weak, the thought of its dying was just more than Must could handle. So she decided to clone the dog. “I feared everyone was going to forget Miya,” she said, “and my other daughters thought I had completely lost my mind.”

Billy's cells were shipped to ViaGen Pets, a Texas company that provides the cloning service. With more than $50,000, Must picked up a new puppy. “The dog has a real soul and is everything my daughter was—fun, social and kind,” she said. “I feel that I still have that touchable connection and not just a spiritual connection.”

Cloning animals is hardly new. But the recent news that singer Barbra Streisand had cloned her dog grabbed international headlines. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA) president Ingrid Newkirk issued a statement saying she would love to talk her out of cloning, noting that millions of wonderful dogs are getting old in animal shelters every year or dying in terrifying ways when abandoned.

Normally, a doctor takes a tissue biopsy(组织活检), a piece of skin and muscle about the size of a pencil eraser, from the dog. The next step is to take an egg cell from a donor dog, remove the egg’s nucleus, and insert DNA from the pet to be cloned. When an embryo(胚胎)develops, it is transplanted in the body of a mother dog.

In the basic cloning procedure, scientists take an entire adult cell and put it into an egg that’s been relieved of its own DNA. The resulting embryo is a clone.

However, in many animals, only one in 100 cloned embryos ever leads to a live birth. Some embryos die in the IVF dish or in the mothers bodies. Of those that are born, a few suffer from abnormalities and quickly die. Besides, pet cloning doesn’t mean copying everything of your beloved pets.

12. Why did Must decide to clone Billy Bean?

A. She felt alone without its company.

B. Her work experience inspired her to do so.

C. She wanted to keep her daughter’s memory.

D. Her family encouraged her to get a new dog.

13. What’s Newkrik’s attitude towards pet cloning?

A. Supportive.

B. Negative.

C. Objective.

D. Uncertain.

14. What does Paragraph4 mainly talk about?

A. How dog cloning works.

B. The achievements in dog cloning.

C. The disadvantages of pet cloning.

D. How to support animal protection.

15. The last paragraph implies that animal cloning________________.

A. is widely accepted now.

B. has a very high failure rate.

C. gives pet owners false information.

D.has made a breakthrough in recent years.

One afternoon, I went to pick up my mother from work. 21 , I looked outside the car window, there was a small park 22 I saw a little boy running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance. No, what 38 to him was to accomplish the task or activity 39 to the best of his ability.

书面表达

Dear sir,

It is said that a summer camp is to be held in your school and a few courses are available to choose from. I am interested in gardening very much.

During the learning period, I expect to gain some basic gardening knowledge. First,

I want to know how to tell different species of plants and flowers apart. Secondly, the proper cutting time and frequency to water are some other skills I want to learn. In addition, a little knowledge concerning choosing suitable soil or the reasonable planting positions will also be a good choice.

The main reason why I choose gardening is that I want to help my parents with their work in the garden. Besides, I find that we students generally lack the knowledge of gardening, missing a chance to have a word with nature.

Yours,

Li Hua

Lorna, 16, rushed across and caught up with her dad, who had just kicked open the front door. They looked upstairs where they saw smoke coming out of the top flat. Lorna followed her father into the flat, where they found a pan on fire in the kitchen and the young mother, Mane Linn, who had been asleep, lost consciousness in the smoke-blackened sitting room. Lorna’s dad threw a wet cloth over the pan and then turned off the stove before starting to help Mane through the smoke down the stairs to safety. Suddenly Mane started crying, “My baby, my baby!” “Where’s the baby?” asked Lorna. “In the bedroom,” Mane shouted back. While John pulled the crying mother from the house, Lorna, without a thought for her own safety, turned back to search for the baby. She found the little girl, 14-month-old Ann lying with her eyes closed. Lorna quickly took the baby, rushed downstairs through the fire and smoke. “It didn’t cross my mind at the time that I was near to dying when I rushed through the smoke,” said Lorna. “I was just thinking of the baby. Even after I came out of the house, I wasn’t frightened.” When help arrived, baby Ann and her mum were taken to hospital for treatment. It was only when Lorna got back into the saf ety of her own house that she realized the danger she had faced. “I started shaking all over and thought of what could have happened to me,” she said. 1.

A “I am not an American,” mark twain (1835-1910) once said, “I am the American.” He had good reason to say so. A Nobel winner in literature, US playwright Eugene O’ Neill called him “the father of American literature”. Twain is someone Americans are taught to love. Older relatives, English teachers and the media often praise him. But when you actually take the time to read the adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was first published 140 years ago, you find that his work is more wonderful than you could ever have imagined. The novel describes a young boy named Tom Sawyer growing up in a small town along the Mississippi River. He explores the countryside on a riverboat with his friends, falls in love with girls, starts secret clubs and searches for treasure. Twain’s idea of childhood is magical – a time of imagination, wonder and, of course, adventure. More importantly, through the eyes of Tom Sawyer, Twain cleverly makes fun of US culture. For example, Tom hates going to church, and Twain uses Tom to make fun of religion and its old traditions. “Often, the less there is to justify a traditional custom, the ha rder it is to get rid of it,” he writes in one chapter. Twain’s writing is full of these kinds of critical points about culture and politics. That’s why he is so loved in the US –he wasn’t afraid to state his opinions, and he did so clearly. For instance, Twain didn’t like US wars abroad. In 1900, after the US invaded the Philippines, Twain wrote in a newspaper article: “We do not intend to free, but to subjugate the people of the Philippines… We have gone there to conquer.” He also believed strongly in wo men’s right to vote in elections and gave a famous speech on the subject, called “Votes for Women”, in 1901.
