有些人认为只要自己准时上下班就算完成任务了,从不思索什么是工作和为什么要工作。其实,“工作”涉及到智慧、热情、想象力和创造力等各方面的问题。

Some people think that they’ve fulfilled their tasks as long as they go on duty and come off duty on time. They never think about what is meant by “work” and why they sh ould work at all. In fact, “work” involves such qualities as wisdom, enthusiasm, imagination and creativity.

要做好工作,工作者必须有奉献精神,能够吃苦耐劳,此外他还应该具有主动性和创造性。所谓主动性,就意味着工作者要随时把握住机会,展现自己非凡的工作才能。

To do his work well, a worker must have a spirit of dedication, and be capable of bearing hardships and standing hard work. In addition, he should have initiative

其次,工作者要弄清楚自己所从事的工作的性质和意义,对自己的所作所为负起责任,以旺盛的热情投入到工作中去。如果能做到这一点,他就会发现,工作不再是一种负担,而是他生活中不可或缺的一个重要组成部分。不管从事什么工作,他总能从工作中找到价值和乐趣,在平凡的岗位上取得不平凡的业绩。

In addition, a worker should make clear the nature and significance of the work he does, be responsible for whatever he is doing and plunge himself into the work with vigorous enthusiasm. Sample

Successful Language Learners

Some people seem to have a talent for learning languages. They can pick up new vocabulary, master rules of grammar, and learn to write in the new language more quickly than others. Successful language learners share some similar techniques of learning.

First of all, successful language learners are independent learners. Instead of waiting for the teacher to explain, they try to find the patterns and the rules for themselves. They are good guessers who look for clues and form their own conclusions. When they guess wrong, they guess again. They try to learn from their mistakes.

Second, they are active learners. Successful learners do not wait for a chance to use the language; they look for such a chance. They are not afraid to repeat what they hear or to say strange things. When communication is difficult, they can accept information that is inexact or incomplete. They tend to think in the language than to know the meaning of every word.

Finally, successful language learners are learners with a purpose. They want to learn the language because they are interested in the language and the people who speak it. They learn the language in order to communicate with these people and to learn from them.

III. 1. rewarding 2. communicate 3. access 4. embarrassing 5. positive 6. commitment 7. virtual 8. benefits 9. minimum 10. opportunities IV. 1. up 2. into 3. from 4. with 5. to 6. up 7. of 8. in 9. for 10.with V. 1.G 2.B 3.E 4.I 5.H 6.K 7.M 8.O 9.F 10.C Sentence Structure VI. 1.
