ordinary people more than recent technological developments. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The technology has brought tremendous benefits and convenience to modem society. However, some people doubt that earlier technological developments brought more benefits and changed the lives of ordinary people more than recent technological developments. As far as I concernd, it is earlier technology development laid the foundation for recent technology development.

Fire, writing, the wheel: all great and important inventions, and such an important part of the fabric of our society but very much over-shadowed by other recent developments in technology: computers, digital technology and the internet.

The ordinary people witch I mean? The middle class with their new apartments, nice white-color jobs and cars double-packed on the street, or the struggling working-class, farmers and homeless who have to constantly strive to put food in their mouths and a roof over their heads. For this second group it is hard to find where the benefits of modem technology are available for them. Such as modem healthcare, modem communications technology, or modern comforts. Many of the new developments are not even reaching huge sectors of our communities; either in this country or other developing, undeveloped or even developed countries .

But these late, modem change would not have been possible without the earlier developments. Fire creates heat necessary for working with iron; writing is at the base of our communication systems, and wheels are under our cars and in our watches.

It follows therefore that the earlier developments which have continued to exist are still bringing benefits to us long after they were invented even though they have disappeared from our thinking. In the future sitting at a computer may seem very old-fashioned, but whatever we use, it will probably be the product of fire, and somehow made possible with the use of wheels and writing.

There are social, medical and technical problems associated with the use of mobile phones. What forms do they take? Do you agree that the problems outweigh the benefits of mobile phones?

Mobile phones are frequently in almost all the aspects of our daily lives. However, there is an opinion that the wide application mobile phone also exerts a negative influence on the society, an individual’s health and technologic development.

It is undeniable that mobile phones have facilities our lives in many different ways. For example, when an emergency occurs, such as a traffic accident or a violent crime, mobile phones can help the victims to call the police or an ambulance immediate for help. They also make people work faster and more efficiently, as people can send or read emails via mobile phones, and communicate quickly and easily with their clients and co-works.

Indeed, it is the case that talking on cell phones in public with high voice disturbs people around. Moreover, as far as radiation of cell phone is concerned, scientific evidence has shown that radiation that a working mobile phone produces has the potential to cause brain cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Apart from the health problems, a range of technical defects would give rise to a series of dangers. For instance, using mobile phones on board a plane may affect the navigation system of the aircraft, which will endanger the lives of the passengers.

To conclude, we should not overlook the negative influence the cell phones produce, because the downsides far exceed the merits.

Leisure is a growing industry, but people no longer entertain themselves as much as they used to because the use of modem technology has made them less creative. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Technology becomes an increasingly important part of our life. We may use technology when we want to entertain ourselves. However, whilst recreational activities are getting increasingly diversified, many people unfortunately find that they can not get entertained as much as they did in the past.

In some areas modem technology allows the expression of human creativity to go unhindered. Indeed, with up-to-date computer grapics technology, some astonishing special effects are frequently shown in Hollywood movies, particularly in some science-fiction works. Moreover, with the invention of the Internet, game lovers across the globe can explore the full of online entertainment in a virtual world full

of mystery and adventure.

Nevertheless, in most cases, the overuse of modem technology has made life less entertaining than it could have been. Take the music industry for example, unlike their predecessors who were constantly exploring life for inspiration and originality, today’s artist are confined to studios, relying on computerized processing and techniques for their work. As a result, despite the mass production of popular songs an music, we rarely find a truly remarkable piece. Imagines again those childhood games we all have played such as “Hide and Seek ” or “Drop the Handkerchief”. Simple as they may be, these activities offered us the real excitement of going outside and having fun with our friends. By contrast, nowadays an increasing number of modem entertainment forms such as watching TV and playing video games.

To conclude, it is reasonable to reasonable to assume that although modem technology has made our life easier and more comfortable, because it takes away the real pleasure of creative entertainment.

Television has had a significant influence on the culture of many societies. To what extent do you think television has positively or negatively affected cultural development?

With the advent of televisions 40 years ago, the cultures have been influenced largely. Some people regard the impacts as positive while others’ opinions run contrary. As far as I concerned, we can not just use positive or negative to summarise the impact. On the one hand, we must recognize that television does have some positive effects on cultures within a society. People who do not live within their own culture can access it through multicultural stations on TV.

On the other hand, televisions promotes the stronger cultures of countries such as Britain and the US and weakens the cultures of less wealthy countries. This is because the stronger countries are able to assert their own culture by producing more programmes that are shown widely around the world. These programmes then influence people, especially young people, in the countries where they are shown. Also, because television networks need to attract large audiences to secure their financial survival, they must produce programmes that are interesting to a broad range of people. To interest all these different people, most television programmes are short, full of action and excitement and pursue themes common to all cultures, such as crime and romance. Television programmes that concentrate on or develop themes related to one particular culture are not so successful because they only interest a smaller audience.

To sum up, televisions are the sword of double edge, as it can both promotes the cultures of wealthy and influential countries and weakens cultures that are already in a week position.

Nowadays cheap air travel is increasingly popular in the world. To what extent do you think its advantages outweigh its disadvantages?

There was a time when air travel was only for the wealthy people and out of reach of the majority of citizens. But now low-cost fights are available in many countries .

In terms of developing tourism, low-cost airlines surely have their advantage as well. They provide more tourists with the chance to travel by air. Time is valuable for travelers because very few of us have along vacation. Compared with a train or a bus journey, low-cost flights do not cost much more time and energy for tours in our destinations.

Another advantage of low-cost flight is , of course, the cost. Some discount airline tickets are so cheap that they cost even less than the airport tax . This change can certainly give more people access to air travel and increase the efficiency of traveling, either for business or for pleasure, worldwide.

Some people are worried that low-budget air travel may be uncomfortable or tiresome than regular flights. In fact, most low-cost airlines provide the same space for the economy-class passengers. Even if we really un happy with the seats, we can always get a better seat with very little additional cost.

Other people may complain that cheap air travel consumes more fuel and causes pollution when an increasing number of people travel is more damaging to the environment than bus rides or train rides because air trips carry a lot more people than cars and trains.

So my conclusion is that not only can low-cost airlines offer us inexpensive flights, they also give us greater convenience and more options, on which we cannot put a price tag.

The production and transportation of food has been heavily influenced by modern technology. To what extent do you think this is a positive development?

For over a decade, the impact of technology on the food industry has been a major public concern.

I believe technological innovations have brought about plenty of benefits to the production and transportation of food. For customers, the application of technology in food production has greatly increased the variety of food available to us, which can mean more choices and better taste. What’s more, frozen food provides more convenience for people, especially the city residents who are always busy. Now we do not have to do the chore of cooking meals everyday. Last but not least, the production of food on assembly lines cuts the costs for businesses and customers can now purchase goods at much lower price than before, which means we should be left with more money for education and entertainment.

But the dark side of the development is the modern way of producing and transporting food often damage the environment. For example, to increase the crop yield, farmers often grow plants with the help of chemical fertiliser, which means the ecological balance can be easily destroyed. Health concerns are also raised about the genetically-modified food and the fish taken from polluted rivers and lakes world wide.

On balance, it seems that modern technology is conducive to a simpler and more pleasant lifestyle in terms of food. What scientists should improve is to make the food industry “green” in the future.

Many people ignore basic science today, what are the causes and what are your solutions?

In present age society, education has been paid increasingly attention to. However, strange as it may seem, the significance of basic-the main driving force behind productivity has been largely ignored by the general public. The reasons for this abnormal phenomenon lie in the nature of basic science.

First of all, the benefit of basic science research extends far beyond laymen’s perception. Unlike applied science, basic science concentrates on the development of theories rather than the design of any specific products for practical use. In fact, the period between the invention of a theory and its first application can be as long as several years. As a result, basic science programs hold little attraction to investors and therefore are often undervalued. Moreover, basic science such as physics and chemistry has always been shrouded in mystery or secrecy. Their areas of research are highly specialised.

Since basic science is the foundation of most technological developments, some steps must be taken to revere this trend. The government should fulfill its responsibility in raising public awareness of significance of basic science. Only when government gives priority to this field in its policy can basic science get the funding and the public support that is urgently need. Also, companies should financially support scientists who commit themselves to basic science, not just for the sake of profit, but for the development as well.

Basic science deserves much public attention. Certainly none of us want it to become a completely stagnant due to our ignorance.

Life was better when technology was simpler. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

With the development of human society, technology has been becoming increasingly vital in people’s life. However, some people think the life was simpler when the technology was not so developed. As far as I concerned, these people are misguided.

The first reason is that simplicity was because of a lack of choices. Before large jet planes came in the 1960’s, for example, air travel was beyond the imagination of most people. Before electronic modern banking system was invented, people had to spend a lot of time on math calculations on their work. Moreover, our knowledge of the world around us, especially foreign countries, was sketchy before the advent of televisions. Modern technology has brought the world in literature into vivid pictures, videos and even real life.

It not always true that modern technology is more complex to use than it was to perform household chores. Caring for a horse was a far more complex and time-consuming matter than having a car. Probably, what makes people to long for the old simpler life is the speed of modern society. But sometimes, this change can be resisted, when we set ourselves simple priorities and stick to it.

To sum up, technology’s merits can overwhelm its demerits only when people have learned how to balance between what are really in need and what the technology can provide.

When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try to keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

In present age society, technology has been increasingly significant role in people’

s life. Some people think technology may cause traditions to die out, and it makes no sense to keep them alive. But I disagree with this opinion. I will illustrate my view as follow.

To start with, traditions are the treasure and heritage from our ancestors. Every country should be proud of his unique cultural identity. What’s more, we can learn much from traditions such as the thought of our forefathers and the ancient lifestyles. Finally, traditions can be regarded as a huge resource of tourism attractions for a nation’s economy.

Further, to some extent, technology can positively contribute to keep traditional skills and way of life alive. For instance, in some remote areas, people do not have proper secondary education for children. Thus the children could only be separated from their parents if there were no convenient transportation. On this condition, provided that they have the chance to leave the impoverished village, they may never plan to go back, because it takes too much time and money. As a result for a long-term situation, the new generation will all migrate to cities, leaving the village deserted. To the contrary, technology have shortened the gap between the urban and rural areas to maintain some traditions alive. In addition, the internet and modern refrigeration techniques are being used to conserve and advertise traditional foods such as Chinese traditional food Zongzi.

In conclusion, may technology damage traditions, they still can be used positively. The point is that human should find a balance between them, instead of just sitting doing nothing.

Some people think that modern technology is increasing the gap between the rich and the poor. To what extend do you agree with their opinion?

I agree with the statement that the development of technology is expanding the gap between haves and have-nots. This is evident when we examine examples like the startling year and lives of some high-tech entrepreneurs such as Larry Page and Sergey Brin who make more 550 dollars every second.

Market economy means money us paid in exchange for market demand that one can satisfy. Modern technology, the primary driving force behind the development of modern society, results in higher productivity, greater ease or more exciting game devices. It seems fair that people who invent or apply new technology are paid in proportion to the large market potential that their work holds.

Another reason why the gap broadens due to technological advances is that technology is a form of intellectual capital. In human history, technology has never been a rising tide that lifted all boats. Since the wealthy can afford better education about technology, they have more intellectual capital to invest as well.

The gulf between the rich and the poor has been widening at a quickening pace also because the poor almost invariably have little chance of understanding and applying new technology; therefore they are very likely to remain mired in poverty. So I think the most effective means to narrow the rich –poor gap would not be through financial aid or taxing the rich more heavily, but be though the provision of better educational and training opportunities to the needy.

Modern technology is creating one single world culture. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In present age society, technology has been playing an increasingly significant role in people’s life. Modern technology is rapidly changing the world’s living standards, which results in creating a single world culture. I believe high-tech have great influence on creating a similar culture all over the world.

First of all, the modern means of transportation allows people to move from one place to another fairly readily, which contribute to the spread of culture as well. An increasing number of people are migrating or working in foreign countries. They bring their motherland’s culture, meanwhile, they can broadcast the host country’s custom after they return to their hometown.

In the second place, the Internet and e-mail have changed the way people communicate with each other. We now have a great opportunity to find out more about countries and their history. It is so convenient that we can appreciate a foreign country’

s senery and traditions just by sitting in front of a computer.

Consequently, the boundaries between countries, their traditions and customs are erased. Because of that, now many families are created between people from different countries. Traditions fuse and evolve into other ones ro just vanish.

To conclude, modern technology has a great impact on the way people live now. It is creating a new single world culture where old traditions and distances are no longer of that much importance.

Traditional games are more useful than modern games in developing children’s skills. To what extent doyou agree?

I do not think traditional games are necessarily superior to modern games in terms of developing children’s skills.

As a matter of fact, comeputer and video games may sustantially contribute towards children’s mental and emotional growth, in a variety of ways. They therapeutic benefits that video games can yield on the recovry of some teenage patients suffering from memory loss have scientifically confirmed that these games activate certain parts of the brain.

Fist of all, on a day-to-day level, many children’s initial experience with a computer actually occurs with the game software that runs on that device. In essence, games have turned computers into endearing gadgets and helped the young plaers to overcome their apprehension and anxiety in getting used to an unfamiliar tool.

In the second place, as computer literacy is so essential to individual advacement today, PC and Mac games actually serve highly useful purposes in putting kids on the

right track. Apart from that, in my observation, youngsters’ passion for video games may well lead to promising career paths in the game design industry.

Last but not least, playing computer games can be an intensely competitive process and require a wide range of skills. Just watch how WoW(World of Warcaft) players try to fullfill their tasks. They team up, work closely with one another, and make the most of their individual analytical and strategic planning skills to achieve their objiectives. I would be hard-pressed to think of any traditional games that can hone such a mixed variety of abilities within such a short period of time.

Admittedly there are video games that are violent in nature, which may make some teenagers aggressive to their peers. Besides, researchers have proven that the rays from the game device hurt player’ eyes. Further, unlike some traditional games, getting glued to electronic gadgets all the time could result in overly sedentary lifestyles. Yet as far as the cultivation of kids’s skills, I really do not believe it would be sensible to claim that tradional games are absolutely more desirable So the key is, I believe, to set rules and limitations to prevent children from getting addicted to games rather than relegating all PSPs to locked drawers.

托福写作科技类范文(汇编)

托福写作科技类范文 Does technology make children less creative than in the past? Are our kids becoming lazier and less creative, less imaginable than before as a consequence of highly advanced technology? My answer is no, and just the opposite, technology has apparently assisted our kids to become more creative. First and foremost, technology has provided children with easy access to scientific and liberal art resources which is their best source of inspiration. For example, children could now easily gain access to academic databases through iPad screen, read classical works on Kindle, or watch historic documents on Internet. These great works are essentially helpful to arousing their curiosity and prepares them with key knowledge necessary for any creation. However, these wonderful equipments and facilities are never as handy in the past, when kids could only reach limited resources in public libraries or schools. In this sense, technology has provided the possibility for children to be more creative.【新托福独立写作范文】 Second, technology has equipped children with professional apparatus which could finally realize their imagination. Third, technology itself is a market place where creative ideas are economically encouraged. Steve Jobs earned millions of dollars a year for his unparallel creation, and Mark Zuckberg gained his reputation for the genius social network. Therefore, technology has provided children the internal motive to develop their creativity. However, it is undeniable that technology might make children become lazier and be comfortable with what is already available because everything are so convenient nowadays and there seems to be no way to improve them.
